The Reducing Male Suicide Research Theme 2: The Experiences of Men Who Seek, and the Clinicians who Provide, Mental Health Care

In the space of men's mental health promotion and suicide prevention, the Reducing Male Suicide (RMS) research cluster focuses on 3 research themes to expertly evaluate and treat men’s mental illnesses and suicidality.
While many men are reluctant to seek professional mental health care, recent studies have shown that more than half of the men who are lost to suicide engage professional help in the year prior to their death. Within this context, it is key to understand the barriers, facilitators and best practices for men who seek mental health support. The RMS Theme 2 sub-group examines men’s experiences of accessing mental health care, both from the perspective of the men seeking help, and the clinicians who provide mental health services. Theme 2 aims to guide effective gender-specific services and resource underserved sub-groups, and develop evidence-based content to equip clinicians to work with male clients.
