- I purchased this Marley type sectional garage on ebay, winning the bid for £2 but the auction terms were I had to dismantle myself. Taking it down was relatively simple, unbolting the concrete roof sections carefully, which then exposed a timber wall plate holding all the sides together. After this was off it was just a case of unbolting each section.
My original plan was to erect this at our new house and slap a bit of paint on the old door , maybe put a plastic corrugated roof on it but things evolved as the build went on.
First job was to have the concrete base poured. We set up some formers, fixing some timbers to the top inner edge along the back and sides to create an upside down L shape. This was to form a ledge for the panels and blockwork to sit onto as the panels are made with an overhang to stop any rain from getting into the garage. These were then sat on a bed of mortar.
The rear breeze block wall was tied into the sides with a wall starter kit from Selco, this was drilled and plugged into the concrete side panels then the block work was built around the fixing clips provided in the kit. After this was done a double layer timber wall plate was added to give some strength and rigidity to the concrete panels and also provide a fixing for the roof trusses which were fixed onto this with Simpson roof truss ties
I made a jig so I could make each roof truss the same and then once these were fixed I attached 12mm OSB3 sterling board to the roof trusses. These were then battened out and a breathable membrane was fitted before fitting cement roof slates
The original red door blew over in a gust of wind and buckled so I bought a second hand door on ebay which came with a frame. This frame enabled me to build 2 brick piers either side of it which I then rendered.
I used an old upvc back door and side window from the house as we were extending it to use as the garage side door and window, the frames just needed a little trim to make fit. Internally I put a vapour barrier on the concrete panels then glued and screwed 12mm OSB3 sterling board to give it a nicer finish
All in I spent less then £1500 on the garage itself with the base and it measures 6.5m x 3.3 so a fairly decent size for me to work on the motorbikes and various other projects
