What a player grew up a leaf fan but he was something to watch. Not many players can make there jersey like a cape in full stride him and Mike gardner.
Gino thank you for this podcast. My view of the NHL was tainted by what happened to Mike as far as rookie of the year but more so by what they did to Wayne Gretzky as well. I truly thank you for showing us the true or shall I say human side of these players. From all of your guests we get a glimpse of the real people in daily life as opposed to just the bright lights…. Much appreciated! Please keep up the great work.
@@RIUUI007 They Said he was not eligible for rookie of the year because he played one season in the WHA. Stasny won it at I believe 35 years old after playing in Russia.
I really appreciate the effort he put in babs , is a punk and he finally has gotten what he has earned. Thank God for the whistle blower that shut him down.
Honestly, why hasn't current Dallas, Detroit or Minnesota called to help make up for it? Any of those teams could call the league to make a special exception for an extra roster for one game at the end of the season when any of those teams have clinched or eliminated and let him take the opening face-off and leave the game.
That’s not Mo’s style. Expecting some pity party for what is really a meaningless accolade for an otherwise illustrious career? Plus he’d NEVER lace up unless he was at peak performance(ceremonial puck drop or not). He simply respected the game that much. Above all, it would’ve severely diminished his last game in Dallas as a Star, in which he assisted, scored the game tying goal, only to help win with a top shelf goal against the Ducks in a SO! All this after a solid 5 minute emotional standing ovation by 20,000 Dallas fans! How can you possibly top that???
@ then Babcock didn’t really do anything wrong, right? Before you go off on “defending Babcock” here’s the point. Modano knew at that point of his career, he wasn’t going to really contribute anyways. Especially, after the surgery but he was still kind of counting the number of games. To be fair anyone would. It’s a fun way to close it out. Back then it would have been a meaningless accolade. Literally make no difference whether he did it in Detroit then or do it now.
I live 70 miles north west of Prince Albert and we loved the Raiders and Mike.. Everyone knew the Raiders song..They were awesome with mike ..Go Raiders go..Go Raider go..The green white and gold team is go Raiders go..We take on the roughest and welcome the toughest but the song in Prince Albert is Go Raiders go...
Kane, pavelski, leech, richter, modano. Sure I’m forgetting a bunch of ppl. But in 10 yrs, we’ll have the Hughes bros and a bunch of other guys playing rn who will probably be in the convo
Babcock actually did the Stars a huge favor because everyone talks about this and not how Dallas sent him packing in the most disrespectful way possible.
Mo is all class and is heavily respected by all, unlike Babcock who cemented his legacy as a giant pr*ck that nobody will ever hire again. Enjoy retirement Mo, you certainly earned it!!!

Great sense of humour Gino; this is an awesome interview....
Great interview! Thx
As an oiler fan every time madano touched the puck I cringed till he lost it he was so dangerous
Yep, that Dallas team was an Oiler killer.
He was a first class act
27:00 Babcock discussion begins
Really interesting story about his skating. He did look like he was flying with his jersey always playing catchup.
What a great player and loved by all

What did they do to Wayne Gretzky?

Babcock was a fullblooded narcissist. Imagine denying someone like #9 his 1500th game just to make a point….
Mike Modano was a weapon. Babcock definetly fucked him. One of my all time favorite players.
Best American to skate and really introduced the sport to a lot of kids
What Babcock did was and is still one of the shitiest moves ever done by a coach.
garbage move

Yeah, he completely tore it up in the WHL. His skill level was way above everyone else.
Top 10 best American Hockey player😀
Top 3 IMO
Yes, top 3
So Mario, Wayne, Mike? You're gong on record as saying there are no better players than these three? @@travisholte3241
So who's the other 9?

BRUTAL about the Calder. So not cool.
Even tho numbers are down big time in the states the last few years with youth participation. Shame. Expensive ass sport tho

Babs will be back. Mark my words
He’ll be back checking phones again
