Hydrogen Peroxide for Algae Control in the Aquarium
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 лип 2024
- In today's Aquascaping Deep Dive, I explain how hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) kills nuisance algae and bacteria, without harming your plants or aquatic animals. I break down the science of how hydrogen peroxide works as an algicide, at a molecular level. As always, I keep things simple and layperson friendly, so it's super easy to understand and digest. As with all chemicals, be sure to follow all directions and warnings carefully.

Great video.
Thank you.
so cool. great production
Glad you enjoyed the video
Amazing information. Many thanks.
And many thanks to you for supporting my little channel 😊
Fantastic work!
Glad you think so!
Very cool informative video Logan! I’ve used it before and it’s cool how it attacks the algae!
H2O2 is my favorite weapon in the algae wars by far!
Thank you for the info!
You bet!
Great Explanation 👍👍
Like the Video-Style: Short and informative👌
Glad to hear you liked it!
Dude I appreciate you sharing this video because I work hard to maintain my tanks and the BBA fight has been ongoing for years. Makes me feel like I’m not doing something right until I see videos like this and see that people such as yourself also struggle with algae control.
Oh yeah, I struggle with all this stuff too. I enjoy learning as I work to beat things like BBA so happy to share my journey
Took me over a year to clear up algae
There’s hope for me yet!
Thank you 🖤🖤🖤
Any time!
Hey Logan, great video!. Btw, have you happen to watch any recent videos of Dennerle plants?. Because the voice behind their recent videos sounded exactly like you. 😂
Ah yes, I’ve noticed that guy sounds very similar to me. The videos also have that same highly polished editing style. I’ve gotta hire that guy 😉
WE WANT MORE.... WE WANT MORE.... WE WANT MORE.... Hey Logan amazing video as always 👌🏻🤯
Glad you enjoyed it! Lots more to come 😊
What is your dosing recommendation?
I have some algae in my tank and I would like to try this method out. Love the vid !!
I don't really pay attention to dosage since I'm spot treating problem spots with a 12 ml syringe in my 20 gal tank. I'll probably use three syringe fills per maintenance session in the 20 gallon and hit a bunch of spots. Usually 3-5 BBa spots get hit per syringe load. Be very careful in small tanks with overdosing. The general guide most people give is not to exceed 3mls of H202 per gallon of tank water when doing a big treatment
@@LoganRandoAquascaping Thank you for the help.🤙🏽
Can you dip the plants in this? I’m upgrading tanks and trying to get rid of some algae before starting the new tank. If I can dip, how long should I keep the plant in the h2o2?
You can, but I find it's not very effective at sterilizing plants. If you're worried about spreading algae to a new tank, I would try the bleach dip method instead. Here's an article on how to do that:
buceplant.com/blogs/aquascaping-guides-and-tips/how-to-perform-a-bleach-dip-for-aquarium-plants
What about water change after dosing? Turning off lights
No necessary for small dose spot treatment, but I usually do treatment in conjunction with my water changes and maintenance
I've been dosing 1ml per gallon on a 75g and it's made a lot of difference in a week, is that the correct dosage? Thanks
Don't exceed 1 ml per 3 gallons as a general rule, but with a large volume like that you'll probably be okay. Watch your plant and fish health and take things slow
@@LoganRandoAquascaping yea I'm only doing 1ml per gallon since its a large tank and it really made a difference in less than a week. My plants were full of diatoms they looked as if they were dead, now they're back to normal.
So this safe for your fish?
When used as directed, absolutely.
Of course it works, it has nitrogen in it. Plants and Nitrogen. Put a teaspoon in a gallon of water and water House plants. It’s also a teeth cleaner.
Most stem plants with translucent leaves will wilt or die back if you use too much peroxide
