      They become like a child to us. They are my kids! So sorry for your loss.😢 Someday you will be together again. After loosing my Jack 14 years old, I was heartbroken! Though no other could take his place, I saw my LoLa. 8 weeks old at our humane society. She helped me heal & now she is going on 5 yrs. old. She is my baby girl! 🙏♥️🐾🦴

She was my travel buddy and lived in three different countries with me. I still feel the 💔 Before her my Golden Retriever lived to 18.5 years before developing renal failure. Know how you feel 😢. Had to put down our last dog of 16yrs in the spring. That little dog was my constant companion. Previous dog ( larger breed) made it to 13, so like you basically 30yrs with 2 dogs. New puppy this past summer. This one could outlive me 😂.

      Why kill your pets just because you allegedly love them? That's shit!
      Why not support them with whatever are needed to fight their illnesses till evrything is exhausted?
      My dog was afflicted with TVT a form of cancer, and the vet advised euthanasia as the dog if treated has a very slim chance to still survive. I opted to fight for the life of my dog as i love her so much, i gambled with chemotherapby which was expensive and provided only 50% chance of survival.
      That was more than 5yrs ago, and my dog is now living her senior yrs, this time with arthritis..hehe😅 but which is easily treated with bone and joint supplements.

    Growing up in the 60s we thought punishing the dog was the way to change Behavior. How painfully wrong we were. Once I learned total positive reinforcement and redirecting from bad behavior oh life for all of us got great. And if the dog runs off and then returns, I may be annoyed but just give lots of love because we want him happy to return.

    The head petting comment is totally wrong. It really only applies to dogs that aren't comfortable around their human. My dogs actively seek out head rubs and pets. A stroke from the jaw to the ear, emulates the reassuring lick of a mother dog, and gives them the same feeling of security. Plus, a dog's ears and head are not a place they can reach on their own, so they absolutely appreciate your gentle strokes in that area. As long as your dog trusts you, head pets are very favorable to them.

    Dog are like people, you have to get to know their personalities just like people. Be able to read your dog, they can’t “talk” remember but they DO “talk” if you listen and watch them when “you” talk to them. Every dog is different so pay attention and do what they like or want. One dog may like belly rubs and not like their head touched, another may like their ears rubbed and not their belly rubbed( I’ve never known a did that didn’t like belly rubbed but you never know, just saying) you get my drift. Especially with rescues you have to have patience and take time to get to know their personalities after all, you have no idea what they’ve been through. So, this is just my advice over 60 years of having many fur babies of different breeds and mixes. It kinda makes me have some knowledge but, I’m not a professional just a fur baby lover and Mom🐶❤️

    ✨✨✨I NEVER do any of these things to my 🇺🇸Texas pure bred rescue chihuahua…she already was an abused mother in a puppy mill. I specifically adopted her to teach her love, caring, trust…by singing and dancing with her everyday. I registered her as a SERVICE dog so that I can take her absolutely everywhere with me.
    She is with me and has been every moment of the day since she arrived. She takes care of me as much as I take care of her. We are family. I cannot live without her.

    It's been a long time since I had a puppy. I finally adopted one at an adoption event in our town in August. My last dog past away from cancer the year before and it took that long to feel I was ready to get another dog. My previous dog was a wonderful lab that we adopted as an adult and I was very close to her. But I didn't want to put unrealistic expectations on the new guy. Every dog is different. I did do a DNA test on him and found that helpful as it explained some of his behaviors.

    I never “ pet” the head but do a modified slow rubbing -mini massage starting from back-tail area( place where they can’t reach) and work all the way up to the crown of his head. Then a soft massaging of the ears/ gently scratching the forehead and working down to the bridge of his nose.Sounds like a lot but it’s a slow quality time for the dog/ his earned “ entitlement “. As an owner we have to realize that our dog(s) are never thru “training us”.

    • @TheDogBrain-p2f
      @TheDogBrain-p2f  12 днів тому +1

    Sometimes, yelling or using mild punishment is necessary to teach dogs their boundaries. If we only rely on reward-based methods, dogs might not understand their wrong behaviors. You can try following this approach, but I believe maintaining clear discipline is equally important when training a dog.

    • @TheDogBrain-p2f
      @TheDogBrain-p2f  7 днів тому +1

      Thank you for sharing your perspective! Discipline is important, but studies show that positive reinforcement often builds trust and better long-term behavior. Dogs learn more effectively when rewarded for doing the right thing, rather than being punished for mistakes. Clear boundaries combined with kindness can work wonders.

    I dont agree on some of these things. But like humans, Dogs have emotions and different personalities. My mix min pin/chihuahua rescue furbaby seems to act more like a 5 - to 6 year old child. He's 12 years old. We have a great, loveable, understanding bond. Since I am a widow and disable, he is rarely left alone at home. He goes everywhere that he is allowed to go with me. We have a routine from morning to night. First thing in the morning, for about an hour, he loves his hugs, kisses, and rubs from head to tail. Especially he loves me to concentrate on his shoulders and chest. Those are his favorite spots. He also loves his head, eyes, and ears rubbed. If he doesn't want a certain place rubbed, he will give a low growl to let me know. Then it's time to go out to pee, and He loves playing ball outside as much as possible we are lucky we have the land that he needs no leash. he has a favorite ball that he brings with him everywhere. He loves going for rides, going shopping at stores that allows dogs and picking out a new toy, (people think its so cute that he will carry that toy around so proudly and happy), taking walks, and meeting new people. He's a social butterfly. He is scared of fireworks and pooping noises. He shakes uncontrollably. I will not leave him to go watch the fireworks, I stay home, and what soothes him is to crawl under the blankets in bed and for me to hold him close and cuddle him. He is very verbal and knows how to get what he wants or needs. He sleeps in the bed with me and will bring one of his stuff toys he will kick me if he wants more room to stretch out. Also, when he's had enough rubs and he wants to be left alone to just sleep, he will give a low growl. He is very comical and when im down in the dumps he will do something silly to make me laugh. I've had few furbabies over the years and loved them all until it was their time. I must be doing something right, This pup has been one of the best. I don't know what I am going to do without him when his time comes. I pray that I will have many more years . 😊

    The key takeaway from the video is awareness and making small, positive changes. For instance, instead of head pats, try petting your dog on their chest or shoulders and observe their body language. Dogs communicate their comfort clearly when we pay attention, and even minor adjustments can make a big difference in strengthening your bond with them.

    Inconsistent! in #3, we are told NOT to pat a dog on its head; then towards the end of #9 [at 7.54], we are told to pat a dog on its head - "even with a simple pat on the head..."; plus there are numerous instances of a dog being patted on its head [6.34, for instance] - if one should be NEVER pat a dog on its head then the video of a dog being patted on its head and the recommendation to pat a dog on its head ought to be removed or, if patting a dog on its head isn't harmful, then chapter 3 should be removed.

    the head petting thing is true but poorly explained in this video. Yes your doggos like ear scratches and head rubs. what they hate is that out of the blue big ol human hand going over thier head, almost grazing thier protruding eyeballs especialy from a stranger. if you approach head pets as a progression from shoulder rubs to neck and then ear scratches they will not react with the same fear. with that being said they don't want us to linger there because they cant see your hand. do the head pat and then move back to the ears or better to thier back or bellies and you get the reaction we are all going for without the negatives for the dog. its funny how this video spends time telling you NOT to pat them on the head and then at the end of step 9 they tell you to do it smh.
