    I've lost count of how many times my parents would use that scripture to guilt me into "obeying" them. This leaves so many JW children subject to abuse and manipulation by their parents.

    I'd say that being told "Run away and don't look back" is way different than being told "Run away and don't look back, because if you do, you will turn into a pillar of salt", if you only have the first info that is a common saying. I think it's not on you for perhaps thinking "I better check that a fireball or flying debris isn't falling at me in the most stressful moment of my life as everything and everyone I've ever met burns alive"

    You don’t know how happy I am that you are covering this book. I was never a JW but when I was 7, I actually ASKED for bible study for when ever the next door knockers showed up. My family wasn’t religious and I was curious. I had weekly study with this book in the early 90s for almost 2 years.
    That book was S-C-A-R-Y!

      @@DarthMagogFunny, as a person raised as a Jehovah's Witness, I wasn't really scared by the illustrations in that book. But I developed a phobia of other types of religious art, images of Catholic saints for example... And living in a predominantly Catholic country, I cried everywhere where there were images of this style, that is, almost everywhere

    Something I thought of recently. If they weren’t allowed to look back, how’d they know the fate of Lot’s wife? They couldn’t see her get turned into a pillar of salt.

    • @venlakirahvi
      @venlakirahvi Рік тому +21

      Haha, I never thought about that but it's a great point. Maybe Lot's wife was in front of all of them? Or the ones in front could technically have backed up so they could see her but still face the right way all the time. This whole story is so ridiculous and horrible.

      Okay, probably gonna get hate, but compared to everyone else yes. This should tell us that the city was that bad. Also culture context, at the time they were ruled by the law of hospitality. Which means that anyone in your household guest must be protected above all else. In return your guest must not steal or kill you. It was viewed highly dishonorable for anyone to break this code.

    • @JCArules13
      @JCArules13 6 місяців тому

      @@MrSophire And his daughters WOULDN'T fall under that code?! Also, just because he's the best man in the city, doesn't mean God would find him moral. I'd say this is more proof that women were treated like shit in that society, and the people who wrote the Bible didn't see anything wrong with it. Also, you shouldn't defend the morality of a man because "that was just the culture" because then plenty of horrible shit would get excused!

    Welcome back Lord Magog.
    (I'm obligated to employ the meme)
    "At last we shall reveal ourselves to the Jedi. And at last we shall have our revenge."
    (Breaking character for a moment)
    I had a family member come to me recently, and she asked about something that had made her question what was Biblical, versus what she felt was right. I may be able to tell her a few things, but as someone with perhaps a wider perspective, how can I best gently and safely inform her there are things outside the text and outside meeting halls that she might draw from? I know saying "That's wrong" might shut her down. But hearing her ask makes me want to help and build on her criticism, skeptisism, and self reliance. I just wonder what the "right way" to do that is.

    • @magellanthecat
      @magellanthecat Рік тому

      Gently and carefully. Don't jump right in with Darkmatter2525 cartoons--though they are excellent, you have to ease into it. Take bible stories, and substitute "An Ancient Chinese Emperor" for YHWH Jealousy Jehovah, and ask if she thinks the emperor was right.
      YHWH is the Villain of the bible.

    I hated this particular story the most because God thinks it's fine to let your own daughters getting gangr*ped by every man in the city because the lives of two strangers were more important. That's so disgusting and I can't understand how anyone can defend this.

      @DarthMagog That's true. Even after all these years, I'm still struggling to notice some of the dark implications in some of these stories because I've been taught since my early childhood that god is good, all his actions are fair and just and if something bad happens, it's because we're not "good Christians". So, seeing it from the perspective of more critical creators like you really helps to understand how much cults and religions brainwash their members. Thanks for your work❤️

    Genesis 1 claims that plants that require the Sun's _warmth_ , and full spectrum sunlight to photosynthesize sugars, were created on day 3 before the Sun was created on day 4.
    Each one of the first 4 days had " evenings and mornings ", which require sunrises and sunsets, yet the Sun wasn't created until day 4
    " In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth " which would include the billions of stars and planets discovered by the James Webb and Hubbell Telescopes
    •• however, Genesis 1:16 says that:
    " And God made two great lights, the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser one to rule the night, and [ as a complete afterthought ] he made the stars also "
    The bible authors claimed that the Earth was created first, yet astrophysical science has established that the Sun formed first and then the cooling gaseous matter formed the planets thereafter.
    Genesis 1 becomes truthful when you search type:
    " Ancient Hebrew cosmology..."

    I can forgive abducting two men who just came into town for the sake of hospitality, especially when Lot probably knows he's the residential good guy and the rest of the town has a habit of "coming to know" strangers. Giving up his daughters is harsh but lets also remember these two also get the idea to *** *** ***** *** **** *** so maybe he was getting sick of them and throwing them to the townsfolk was a step up. The whole story gets lost in translation and might just be a throw away explanation why the Dead Sea has salt pillars around it

    Hold on a sec
    Proverbs 4:19
    The way of the wicked is like darkness;
    They do not know over what they stumble.
    1 Corinthians 2:14
    But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.
    Isaiah 44:18
    They do not know, nor do they understand, for He has smeared over their eyes so that they cannot see and their hearts so that they cannot comprehend.
    Ezekiel 12:2
    “Son of man, you live in the midst of the rebellious house, who have eyes to see but do not see, ears to hear but do not hear; for they are a rebellious house.
    Isaiah 6:9-10
    He said, “Go, and tell this people:
    ‘Keep on listening, but do not perceive;
    Keep on looking, but do not understand.’
    “Render the hearts of this people insensitive,
    Their ears dull,
    And their eyes dim,
    Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
    Hear with their ears,
    Understand with their hearts,
    And return and be healed.”
    I can understand not being a Jehovah Witness but don't turn from God being religious is not nearly the same as having a relationship with God these Bible verses are to show u how u have possibly been blinded and not even know it EVEN the devil knows the stories and scriptures of the Bible " it's easier to fool someone then it is to convince someone they have been fooled.
