I hate the FOMO of today's gaming market. With retro games going up in price constantly, new releases stuck on limited release, and digital releases disappearing from digital storefronts all the time, there's this constant feeling of "IF I DON'T BUY THIS GAME NOW, I WILL NEVER HAVE A CHANCE TO PLAY IT EVER AGAIN". And it makes what should be a fun hobby feel like a stressful job.
That's why I stopped trying to complete my backlog while keeping up with new releases. I play what I wanna play and don't ride the hype train anymore. By the time I do get to a new game, it's probably on sale, and my expectations aren't as high.

For me, it's not even about the money. I have more disposable income than I've ever had in my life, and as much as I'd like to get into the "modern" gaming scene, I have no interest in buying any of the new consoles. The last console I bought was a GameCube, to replace the previous one that stopped reading discs, again (I went through 3 GCNs before the "Revolution" became the Wii). Regardless of the fact that all the big three's first-party joysticks are terrible quality and cost twice as much as they should, or the fact that it's harder to get console games to work than it is to get PC games to work these days (at least on PC you can use console commands and mods to fix Bethesda games). Even if those weren't issues, most new games just aren't worth the *time* anymore.
The 360 fomo was so oversaturated with overpriced trash games. Why? All because of the closure of the 360 online store. The PS3 shop will inevitably be closed too and the sale cycle repeats.
