- In today’s video I start the finish work in the interior of the cabin specifically the ceiling. I show how to install galvanized roofing panels for an alternative to drywall. The panels are tough, durable, easy to install and are a cost effective way to a maintenance free interior.
Nice music and scenery on the way up. Thank you!
Christie Huffman great to hear from you! Thank you
That Tin makes a nice ceiling for a rustic look! I had it in the ceiling of an old farm house one time. It looked really good!
The place is really coming together!
Adventures of Frank and Tina I wasn’t completely sold on tin But the more I look at it the more I like it. Thanks for watching have a blessed day
Looks great Karl and Nick 👍 coming along nicely. That pine will pop. Exited to see the progress
Don R. Navarrete Thanks Don that means a lot coming from you. Hopefully we will finish soon and will be able to enjoy it.
Hi mate that's the first time I've seen this style of ceiling looking good
Australian Radio indie TV Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
My husband and I are doing this to my kitchen ceiling. Your ceiling is looking great!
Thank you so much! We really enjoy it. In the winter the radiant heat from my wood-burning stove reflects off of it and spreads a real even heat.We are so grateful we decided to put it in the cabin. I hope you enjoy yours as well. Thanks for watching
Arkansas Wood utter sent me over. I'm not too far from you, just south of the cheddar curtain. I like the corrugated ceiling very cool idea.
Thanks for joining us! I’m just south of iron River and I love it up here. We definitely are blessed, have a great week and thanks for watching
Really liking how this is coming along Karl! Great job!!!
Guy W Pacot Thank you so much! I appreciate hearing from you
It may be in another video but i did not see. Did you have someone spray the insulation or did you do that yourself? If you did yourself, what did you use? Closed cell?
The Amish that built the shell of the cabin had made provisions to have the insulation installed for me. I’ve heard too many horror stories of people spraying insulation wrong. I felt that this part of the build was worth hiring a professional. Sorry I don’t have more information for you.
@@karlsoffthegrid1378 thanks
great show. thanks
roadkill stew Thank you for joining us
I recently did this to a barn style shed we had Pink Panther insulation and now it is sweating do you have the same problem
@@karenkinnison9686 no, we do not have any problem with it sweating. Prior to putting up the steel I had foam insulation sprayed in. The foam acts as a vapor barrier. I would recommend you talk with a company that insulates on a regular basis. I think you need to have some type of vapor barrier installed before the steel was installed. Best wishes ,I hope it works out for you.
The roof will give you good light reflection that will light up the cabin for you. It is really looking good.
Thank you so much. I appreciate your comments and support each week. I value your input thanks for being here
Tiene muy buena pinta esa cabaña, va a quedar perfecta. Muchos ánimos....
GRACIAS!
What a great idea brother.... Great video
Homesteading Northern Michigan Thank you my friend
Looking good
Cyndi Brown Thank you
Where's your PPE when cutting the metal? Good looking job thought
that metal looks great should enhance any lighting you use and also reflect heat down during the cold be safe and cool off
Full Time Dream Thanks for sharing those were my exact hopes and thoughts
drywall lift, overlap both pieces on a ceiling joist for a tight look
Oh what I would’ve given to have a drywall lift. I wish I wasn’t so remote. Thanks for sharing.
Have you experienced any issues with rain water? It looks like the cabin is in the lowest part of the property.
I’ve had no problem with the rain. The cabin actually sits in a saddle of land with low spots to the left and to the right of the cabin when you are looking directly at it. It took a little planning to properly pitch the land so that It wouldn’t have any issues. The reason I placed the cabin where it is , Is because when I walk and enjoy the rest of my property you never see the cabin and the land looks untouched. It also eliminated any future problems with the high wind speed that we sometimes experience. If you watch my video “Delivery of a shed cabin part 2“ I show some better views of the low spots where the rain drains off too. Thanks for watching great question
I really like the ceiling. What type of laser did you use for nail lines ?
I forget the model number but it is a Bosch laser. The laser is self leveling if you have a Home Depot close by they sell them. If you have a choice get the green laser it’s easier to see and it works much better. Thanks for watching
Really like the ceiling. We're thinking about going with something like what you have for a cabin.
That ceiling has really worked out well for us. It’s great at reflecting heat from the wood-burning stove in the winter and it really keeps things cool in the summer. If you choose to go that way you won’t regret it. Thanks for watching
I used the same stuff inside my 6 X 10 cargo/camper trailer. It’s flexible and moulds to rounded roofs. I like it, you will too, good job fellas 👍🏻
Greg Outdoors thank you so much for the info. That’s great news, I really like it too.I’m glad to hear it worked out for you
Hi! I have a little off grid set up in the back of a 1946 store that I want to put this kind of ceiling in...Is it expensive and where exactly might I purchase the corrugated tin or metal? Appreciate any info you can give me! Thx! Oh, and I'm a little gal in NS, Canada.
@@tamarap387
Lowes’s in Kentucky is where i bought mine, I can’t remember the price but wasn’t very expensive 👍🏻
Looks nice Karl, can’t wait to see the wood siding go up! I see the Dodge was brought up did a great job I am sure. Was that a old Coleman cooler in the cabin?
Thanks Jim. I was wondering if anyone would recognize that old vintage cooler I really love that cooler it works great
My parents had one just like it, RED! I love old vintage things😎
No safety glasses off the grid 😎
Hi, Great job ceiling looks nice what type of gun are you using to attach the ceiling does it use screws.
Hi Carl, We used a joist hanger gun with galvanized joist hanger nails. The gun was very expensive luckily we were able to borrow one. Unfortunately They do not use screws only special ribbed galvanized nails. It really helped make the job go fast however, if we didn’t have one available I probably would’ve taken the time to drill and screw the panels to the ceiling. The joist hanger nail gun cost roughly $250-$350 plus we would have to buy the galvanized nails at a cost of $50-$100 a box depending on how many nails you want. You would have to do a little homework in your neck of the woods to see if the cost differs. Stay blessed.
@@karlsoffthegrid1378 Thank's for the info you and your family stay Blessed also.
@@karlsoffthegrid1378 any advice if I don't have an air compressor? would using an electric joist nail hanger work as well? thanks in advance!
I like the looks of the panels, should be nice with the t&g
Wandering Wiley It was fun to spend a little time with my son working on the cabin. It should be interesting to see how everything comes together
Hey Karl, I will be putting corrugated tin on the base of my interior walls. I have a Senco nailer and will use to attach to wall. Did you have any trouble going through two sheets of tin at the seams? Thanks, as always great stuff!
I didn’t have any problem shooting through two pieces after I adjusted the air pressure on the air compressor. Just a helpful little hint, wear gloves when you install the tin because it’s hard to get your fingerprints off of it.Not to mention it’s very easy to get cut from it
I forgot to ask. You are using a Senco Joist hanger gun right? It’s made specifically to shoot galvanized nails
@@karlsoffthegrid1378 Yep, I bit the bullet and bought a Senco joist hanger nailer. I'll probably sell it when I'm done and get some of my money back. I tried it on a piece of tin this morning. It worked fn great!
What about condensation? Any issues?
We haven’t had any issues with condensation. After the cabin was framed we wrapped it in Tyvek and then put the steel on. We sprayed foam insulation from the inside against the Tyvek. We haven’t had any kind of issues with humidity or sweating. The only thing I regret is that we used some green treated lumber on the bottom of the stud walls and we should’ve let that dry out a little bit more before we used it. The first couple months the cabin smelled like green treated lumber, lol.
Goodness that place is green tub
I would throw in a window ac. Depending on your solar it might handle it. But the ceiling looks good.
Sweet Tee Air-conditioning would be wonderful! Thank you
Good job Karl, please wear safety glasses when cutting metal!
Donnie Moore Great advice! I knew somebody would catch that. I broke them first thing when we started working. That’s why I only showed one scene of us cutting the metal. You are right on, it’s very dangerous to cut without proper I protection.I definitely am going to replace my broken safety glasses
Hearing protection is cheap and worth it guys. Learn from my mistakes (And these guys' mistakes)
Is this product something you can get at menards
Yes that’s exactly where I got it. Now that I’ve had it for a couple years we absolutely love it. It directs all the radiant heat back down at the floor and it makes for a really warm living during the winter months.
I'm looking at getting a 10 x 16 cabin shed for at our base camp in Hayward for extra sleeping space our family has grown inlaws and grandchildren plus my all being up our friends and our inlaws up so it's time to grow our place
no vapor barrier?
I only had Tyvek on the outside. The insulation company told me I wouldn’t need a vapor barrier on the inside with spray in foam
@@karlsoffthegrid1378 Thank you for your reply. I did read on a following video where you explained that. Makes sense. Loving the series and best of luck with your cabin!
What did u use to clean the fingerprints off
Barry Bowman I haven’t done my final cleaning yet. I was thinking of antiquing the ceiling with a vinegar solution.Other people have told me Dawn dishwashing soap works pretty good
@@karlsoffthegrid1378 I tried dawn..windex..and off and none of that worked.
Barry Bowman I will keep in contact with you and I will let you know what works for us. Thanks for the warning
@@karlsoffthegrid1378 I'm trying to find smthn that will work without taking the shine off or anodizing it
