Father Chris Alar has taught me more about my Catholic faith in the past seven years than all of the other priests I have ever known in my entire life combined. Frankly, I would not have known anything at all about Saint Faustina and the Divine Mercy devotion but for Father Chris and UA-cam. My parish only just recently started calling the second Sunday of Easter “Divine Mercy Sunday,” and the only - ONLY - reference made recently to that day being Divine Mercy Sunday was a reference made in the announcements at the end of the Mass that items of Divine Mercy were available for purchase in the gift shop. Not kidding. So why should the Church not permit me to fulfill my Sunday Mass obligation on those rare occasions that I do not attend Mass in my own parish church, and thereby allowing me to avoid committing a mortal sin for not attending Sunday Mass, by watching Father Chris offer Sunday Mass on UA-cam? Don’t tell me receiving the Eucharist if I physically attend Mass. If I attend Sunday Mass and do not receive, that still counts as my attending Sunday Mass. The only way I can participate in the three o’clock hour Chaplet of Divine Mercy is to watch and pray with the Marian fathers on UA-cam, my own parish does not pray the Chaplet at three o’clock. We should be able to avoid a mortal sin for missing Mass by watching the Mass on TV or the Internet instead.

That’s a great point that after Epiphany the Carnival season starts, not only in New Orleans but here in South Florida with the arrival of the snowbirds, I refer to it as “Senior Spring Break.” Where I live, there are lots of parties, lots of activities, and while I know our Lord wants me to enjoy myself He has expectations of me.
