i found sas on youtube a few weeks ago and now i can't stop watching videos about it i want to go soooo bad omg im only a junior in high school, ig that gives me a lot of time to convince my parents that it's okay if they don't see me for 4 months
im 14 and I really hope I can go in the future I've already started saving but I'm really scared that I won't be able to afford it. any tips on how you funded your trip?
There’s TONS of scholarships and most people’s total comes down to $10k-17k rather than 30k, also you can become like a student assistant that will lower your tuition by a certain percentage! You can do it :)
SAME but like Nena said, it really is a once in a lifetime experience so any amount of money that I might spend on the trip is worth the adventure to me =)
LOOK ALIVE 1-25! HAHA I miss SAS so much! It's funny how every customs agent is diffrent, I did need to show my letter when I got to Germany. :( lol but yeah, the rest of the paper what a waste! I think I got a simcard once, in Myanmar (I can't even remember why I got one there) but it was kinda really nice not always having my phone to talk to people, I had a plan that if I turned on the data it would be $30 (I think) for 24 hours so I turned it on once a port. I wish I had thought about the disposable camera idea that it so fun! I would recommend putting some movies/TV shows on a hard drive too, I did that, don't need a ton cause then you share with others, I went with maybe 10 movies and ending up filling a hard drive by the end with traded movies and shows, ended up watching all of GOT on the ship lol THE ICE CREAM CAKES WERE THE BEST! We would order them sometimes and have them write "happy whatever day" sometimes lol naps were life! 100% SAS changes you and the friends you make will become some of the best friends you'll have. Even if you don't see each other much, you'll still be close, SAS is something that REALLY bonds people like nothing else can.
I'm 35 and wish I did SAS. I wanted to do it since I saw Road Rules SAS. If I can afford it, I'll sponsor all of my younger relatives to do SAS. Be free! And your audio is great! It sounds like you're right next to me and I had to check my earphones!🌠
Do you plan your flights and stuff when you are in-country during the voyage? I feel like it would be scary to go by yourself, so did you go in-port with friends?
yes i was always with a group when i was in-country. we mostly booked our flights and hotels on the library computer while on the ship because that's where the best wifi was!
you can take up to 5 depending on your home university. most people take 4 classes (including global studies), but my school automatically lets us take 5
Hi Nena, I'm really interested in this trip, but I really want to know how much the entire trip costs in total, counting the cost of the room on the ship, the personal expenses in each country and the activities they carry out. What would be the approximate total cost? I´m from another country so I want this badly before I end college
hey, I really want to go on SAS but I don't know how to convince my parents to let me go. do you have any tips to help me talk to them and let me go on this?
my biggest piece of advice on that is to look into all of the scholarship opportunities if the financial burden is deterring them. if they're worries are about safety, that is completely normal. my parents were hard to convince as well. i would introduce the idea early on and save up your money as best as you can! They really stress the importance of safety on SAS and I always felt confident in my ability to make safe choices in-country.
i did most of my laundry in my sink with the detergent i brought. SAS provides laundry bags in your room that you can fill and put outside the door to be washed for a charge of $6 per bag. i only used their service 3ish times
you can seamail each other on your SAS email or put a post-it note on their door or message them on moodle (a shared server). i actually talked to my family all the time through SeaMail and also i could get iMessages through the Wifi on the ship
Is there like a certain time period for classes? I’m not a morning person so like are all the classes from 8-12 or something like that or do you make your own schedule ?
you make your own schedule and it goes by A and B day. So on A days I had 3 classes, one at 8am, one at 9:30 and one at 3:30. and on B days, i had one at 9:30 and one at 3:30. it really depends on what classes you need to take.
You should make a haul video about the things you bought in different countries
yes i was thinking about doing that one soon!
I’m embarking in less than a month and I’m low key emotional over this video aweeee

i’m freshman in hs and i really wanna do this so bad so ima start saving up now hehe
I’m in seventh grade and I really want to go already
I really enjoy your SAS videos I'm so sad that there's not gonna be any more of them
You should make a video about some stories of anyone getting in trouble on the ship/any specific rules as a SASer on the ship that aren’t that known

Sameee I just got out of 8th grade and I want to go
Thank you for all of these amazing videos. I really have fallen in love with SAS through these videos and hope to participate in the coming years:)
Also do the apps video!!

You can still go as a Life Long Learner!
if you become a student assistant, how much would you get paid ?
i think it’s either $2000 or $4000. SAS’s website has all the details on those opportunities!
I want to do this soooo bad. Covid better not be around by the time it’s my chance. Thank you for the video!!

Also I was wondering how many classes can you take on the ship?
Kristina 17 it’s 4 classes, global studies is mandatory and daily but you can take 3 other classes that only happen every other day

@@NenaShelby ok thank you so much❤️
Thank you so so much for this!
Just curious.. Are there rough seas a lot during this voyage?
it depends on which part of the ocean you are in but we had some rough sea days around the tip of Africa and also across the pacific ocean near Japan

You remind me of Christi from Dance Moms
oh god😂
@@NenaShelby IN A GOOD WAY I PROMISE
Ok another question, what did you end up spending/ saving before going? Did you ever run out of money/get close and be like oh shit
i probably saved about $3000 before SAS for spending on travel/in-country. when i left japan (last port) i had $6 in my checking account LOL
Hey, can you post your packing list from a few videos ago?
can u do the app video u were talking about??
coming soon!!
Is is possible to apply to a semester at sea twice?
yes!
Does it matter what job you want when you get older or is it open to anybody? ( I want to be a Doctor )
open to everyone!
@@NenaShelby Oh okay thank you !
this is random BUT where did you buy your external hard drives?!
amazon!!
why were people on doxy? I took it for PD (a skin thing) but why were people on it at sas?
it’s the antibiotic for malaria prevention, you have to take it when you go to ghana, india and other places. it’s an antibiotic with multiple uses!
What happens if your sick during voyage not like covid-19 but like just a normal fever
just head down to the health center and they will help you out! they have a doctor there at all times i believe
@@NenaShelby cool thx
How else would you do laundry? You only did it 3 whole times in 4 months?
i did most of my laundry in my sink with the detergent i brought. SAS provides laundry bags in your room that you can fill and put outside the door to be washed for a charge of $6 per bag. i only used their service 3ish times
Thanks! How hard was that? Im so used to tide pods and dorm laundry. I am trying to go next year on SAS
How did you communicate with other people on SAS when in country or at sea with no wifi? Also, how hard was it to not talk to your family for 4 month?
you can seamail each other on your SAS email or put a post-it note on their door or message them on moodle (a shared server). i actually talked to my family all the time through SeaMail and also i could get iMessages through the Wifi on the ship
Did you get homesick frequently? Did you call them or just email and text
Did you go to SAS twice?
nope just once in fall 2018! ive just been making videos to help people that are going on it in the future
also, I need upper division classes, global studies upper div?
yes i believe so!
How much does this all cost and like what would you say is the average amount you should bring to spend
check out my first video for the cost and also the itinerary videos for travel expenses!
How much was your hard-drive?
one of them (300 GB) was $30 & the bigger one (2 TB)was $60
Nena Shelby thank you!!
