Jazakallahu khayran brother. You answered my question beautifully. I've just started building a connection with the Quran. Alhamdulillah I've completed tajweed classes. Now I long to memorize the longer surahs especially with meaning. But sometimes it can be pretty intimidating. I'm not sure if I'd be doing it the right way. So thank u brother, alhamdulillah. Ah, so that was more nuanced. I have alot of trouble memorizing. Even an ayah of 5 words. I've been working on alQariah for over 2 weeks and I still keep finding new ways to make mistakes. It's quite frustrating. I don't recall alFatiha being so hard to get in my head. alFalaq got in my head quite fast. So why is alQariah so hard for me?
Honest question. How do u memorise on the train? 1) in terms of volume. Quietly, under the breath, without too audible of a sound? Silently? Loudly that the person next to you could hear? 2) do the passengers look at u funny? 3) how do u overcome that feeling of shyness. I read the Quran on my phone on my commute to work. I do feel self conscious tho I always try to set that feeling aside. I still need to always remind myself of my intention and motivate myself to not care what others may think. I want to start my day in barakah and use my time to understand Allah's words. But that's my problem, thru the quiet recitation, I get waswas which I do seek Allah's help from. My point is tho, if reciting quietly and inconspicuously on my phone makes me that self conscious, how do I repress that self consciousness when I try to memorise with a book in hand. 4) I'm fairly new to the Deen. Tho I live in a Muslim country, reading the Quran in public is not the norm here. I'm currently even facing an internal dilemma of reciting at my corporate work during lunch. Been scouting for a place but I can't find a quiet place where I would not stick out like a sore thumb. I've been making dua for motivation to overcome that feeling of shyness and not be an apologetic Muslim and just recite quietly at my desk. I hope I can find this here because I want to start my memorisation journey. I know this feeling of caring what society says is not something we should have but wallahi, its something I am struggling with and need reminders on. Please. Help. As we age to adults, I feel our brain starts to work more logically and starts losing its memorization capabilities. For me, memorizing the Quran without its meaning of the context makes memorization very difficult. While reciting the Quran, the story itself starts flowing in my head if I know the meaning

I haven't watched yet, but my guess is yes. Sometimes I get lost, but keeping track of the meaning also helps me to remember where I am.
