It has been a while since I follow your channel, I’m about to buy my mini (when this covid 19’s thing will end) so many thanks for all the tips I learned because of you. Cheers from France, Rémi.
watch out about one very important thing. maybe you know, but it's not in the video, and since this is crazy expensive equipment, I guess you don't want to mess it up. I know I wouldn't: you should measure each ring gap with respect to your block: the gap is important as you know: if it's too small, it has a chance to overheat and break your engine. One way to do that is to put each ring, one by one, in their respective cylinder and measure the gap: if it's too small, you'll have to trim. if it's too big, well... it won't break, but it will be a loss of power. It's important because each cylinder is slightly different, especially on overbore engine (I have a 1380cc). if you trim it, you should then make sure it goes back into the same cylinder. you should be sure when measuring that the ring is really horizontal and since you can not measure with the piston on it, you'll have to figure to be sure it's well parallel to the block surface. maybe it's was not necessary to tell, but those are my 2 cents on this :) cheers!
Definitely a great tip and I mention at the end of this video that I didn’t cover ring gap as I was focusing solely one the ring install here, but I will be in my installation video where they get put into the block. 👍🏼 thanks for the suggestion.
Hey david I put the links to all the products I use in my description of videos however here is the link to the pistons. www.med-engineering.co.uk/engine-assembly/pistons-forged/omega-forged-18cc
No not necessarily. In fact lots of people omit or forget to do it for whatever reason. Usually if your machine shop had the pistons when they did your cylinder work they most likely were honed to the correct spec. However when you have the engine apart and you a building it always pays to be meticulous.

Thanks for watching Rémi!
Hey Col hope you're gonna film this engine rebuild from start to finish. So looking forward to seeing the results! Keep up the good work.

Rings also need to be offset ,so the gaps don't align up ,improve compression
Yup for sure. I was strictly covering installation of the rings here. Install on the block will come in a later video. 👍🏼
How much power are you trying to make
A bazillion (150hp is my goal)
Where can i buy that pistons?

Great short videos...
Thanks Luiz
Ahhh, i didn't gap my rings (Hastings brand). Am I going to regret that for the rest of my life?
