How To Adjust Wheelchair Brakes

Sometimes the brakes on a wheelchair may be too loose or too tight. Adjusting them is a simple fix. Using an adjustable wrench (or the specific size if you have one) find the nut under the seat of the wheelchair, loosen it and then slide the brake mechanism to the desired spot and tighten lightly then try to brake to see if it's in a good position for you. Re-adjust if necessary.

or a simpler way is to Remove assembly and throw over your left or right shoulder ! Been in a chair since 1977 and have never used them ! But I do realise there are some cases where people need them to do transfers 🤟

Agreed. It does depend on your comfort level. I typically am working with caregivers who need suggestions for their and their care recipient's safety with transfers.
