Joy Division deserved a bit more attentiion in your reaction, sirs. Back when I was young, a lot of albums were imported 'cos they had no distribution in Europe, or in my case, rural Sweden. Joy Division still shines, however.

Watched you reaction again and about british/european music vs US music. In most european countries you have state funded radio channels that are also the PBS channel. In the US I don't even know if there are national radio stations. The most of american radio stations are going for radio friendly music. In Europe, there are always some shows that are allowed to be more on the edge. The interesting music in the US is played on college radio as far as I know.

You've both obviously got a lot to say about the music which is great and interesting to hear ... but ... maybe consider taking a break mid-way through to discuss your thoughts, rather than your comments/questions being a constant thing, certainly anyone new to the song would probaby have struggled to get a good sense of it. That said, great choice!

It's funny you mentioned the chilli peppers, Flea Chad and john are huge joy division fans. They even covered Shadowplay.

Talking over the music should be illegal. You guys need to learn how to listen. This was unwatchable.

Actually, Iggy Pop's "The Idiot" is standing on the stool music.

Re the initial dialog - surely Joy Division rages too hard against the dying of the light / kicks too much ass, to be genuinely depressing. If you want some really dark music (in a good way), try some Michael Mantler...
For this song, personally, I would have picked the live in Amsterdam 1980 version (it's heavier, and unlike the Still version it has no out-of-tune-ness issues).

You dont' respect the music. All the talk kills it.

Comment #2 - Talking about 1980s European rock - here's a random recommendation: the one proper album from the band Tappi Tikarass. These two songs (ua-cam.com/video/1eIHNhqkLQ8/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/7tOOeqQCRg/v-deo.html) both get trapped in repetitive choruses after starting with terrific verses (so you'll know when to talk and when not!) but still they don't actually outstay their welcome, thanks mainly to the singer (yeah, it's you know who!)

You had me within 45 seconds, someone who likes Joy Division... and admits the inevitable misery.
Edited to add : Genuinely chuffed to see people appreciate this on a level that really surprised me and probably surpassed my appreciation, I was very into them as a moody teenager thirty years ago, but even I have my limits and wanted to dress up once in a while.

There is no proof Ian was bipolar, btw. Don't spread misinformation. Talking through the entire track is a cardinal sin.
