To touch on some of the stuff you guys mentioned: 1.) In Welcome Home, the guitar solos are traded, starts with Travis and then goes back and forth. 2.) The band is a concept band, every album released (except for one) is based on the concept of the Amory Wars. Funnily enough, this album is towards the end of the story as a good number of the albums released after this one are "prequels". 3.) I'm biased, but I personally find them to be a very versatile band that is capable of pulling off a lot of sounds. I personally think that this album has the most "radio friendly" songs on it. Overall, I'd consider them a prog rock band, you will especially see this when you listen to the four song suite at the end of this album, "The Willing Well", which I think is some of the best prog rock released. With that being said, Claudio has great acoustic stuff, but can really lay down the heavy with some tracks as well, some of their songs could probably get tossed into a "metal" category. 4.) While every album is based on the concept of the Amory Wars, every one of these albums starts with Claudio using his real life experiences and morphing them into something to fit the world. This particular album was released following a bad breakup Claudio had with his then girlfriend, Nikki Owen. If you notice in some of the lyrics, you'll see "Newo" pop up a lot, this is the love interest of the main character in the story named Newo Ikkin, flip that name around and you get Nikki Owen. This is why there is so much anger in this album, it's basically Claudio venting all his anger and frustration about the breakup. Thanks for the reaction guys, really liked the content and can't wait to see your reactions to the The Willing Well suite! :D
While Nikki Owen was a big influence in the first album, Elf Tower, New Mexico is literally about her, she became a character in Claudio's universe and the main character's love interest. But this album had influences of his break up with his now wife, Chondra. Fun fact that The Velourium Camper I: Faint Of Hearts is inspired Claudio and Chondra trying to keep things 'spicy' while they were apart when he was on tour. So Newo, while based on his previous ex, wasn't based on who he was dating when this came out, it was a preexisting character within the Amory Wars who served as a vehicle to channel his frustrations and emotions through. Pretty sure Newo gets killed off in this album though to finally put her in his past.

That was the first album I heard from the band. When they announced that they were coming to my country (Colombia) I couldn't believe it. I went to see them live and it was an incredible experience. It was one of the best concert I have ever seen. They are definitely in the top 10 of my favorite bands. Thank you for commenting on the album and bringing Coheed's music to a new audience. This was also the first album I listened to by them. Started me on a journey I wish I could start again. I listened to them for 10+ years before I read the graphic novels, and then my brain exploded. "Maria my star, Matthew goodnight." Will never not bring a tear to my eye anymore.
If I really think about it I have to agree. I also love in keeping secrets and sstb, but if it comes down to which album I'd reccomend it would be this one. It's so dynamic and digestible. It really is the one album you'd want to put in a time capsule for aliens to discover later.
Coheed is AWESOME. I love their entire concept...check out the comics that go with the majority of their albums, too! My personal favourite is Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3 - amazing atmosphere. Thanks for checking this out!!!
I'm watching this again and just vibing now but in the crazy graphic novel ten speed is such a good song to include in the album. It's weird to explain but in the comic there was an actual bike that came into The Writers home and fucked him up. It was an important plot piece but at the end of the day it was just a demonic talking bike. It's so goofy and weird and important. I love it so much.

I've been to 3 concerts of theirs and every time it was an unbelievable experience. Great reaction! You got a new subscriber from this one. Y'all should check out the album they released before this one, "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3" This is one of my favorite albums so I could say a million things but I'll just say one: the concept you are trying to put into words of a solo/riff behind the vocals is called a counter-melody. Its not exactly the same as a harmony, but the second "counter" melody is meant to accentuate the primary melody. Travis' lead guitar work in this album is basically a masterclass in counter-melody. The thing about this album is that it is SUPER densely arranged and there is almost too much going on to hear it all at once.
Okay one more thing lol Super easy oversimplified explanation of the concept: it's a break up album. The whole concept ia a metaphor for that.
