How to build a striking anvil

- After putting it off for the last month i have come to the point where i can no longer avoid it. SAo i decided to get it done. This is the striking anvil plates i bought while at quadstate from Uncle Bucks Forge. He has them in 1 1/4" thick and 1 1/2" thick...i bought the 1 1/2". Its comes with everything you need aside from the tubing for the legs and you can get that dirt cheap at just about any scrap yard or steel supplier...you dont even need 6' total to do all three legs. Take the time and watch the video and let me know what you think. Always open for Ideas. Thanks as always for all the awesome support!

Great video. I am in the Philippines and need an Anvil where there are no anvils but I do have some flat plate steel. Thanks for the preheat tips. Just being in the sun makes steel here TOO hot to hold or touch.....
That's a neat idea, packing sand then adding oil. I have several structures that use metal pipes and I'll be doing the same to them. I live in a small island in the Pacific so we have a never ending fight with oceanic corrosion. Thank you for your video and God bless!
We pre heat our base plates ar work if they are over 3 inches thick it allows you to get better penetration in your weld but also ensures you get a wrld that cools properly! Good on you! Putting bevels on the area you are going to weld and doing a multipass weld will also help you get the penitration you need. With what you are doin im sure your fine! But damn good vid and you are spot on with what u are doing!
I think I'm going to save up some money and drive up to see Uncle Buck and buy two or three of those strike plates I wanted one at quadstate but I ran out of money. In my opinion that's one of the best thing selling their quadstate is awesome.
Per your suggestion, I am seriously considering getting one. Might be very handy. Not that I *need* one, but definitely handy
Man they are awesome. It's not only good for striking but also drifting things as well as for larger Hardy tools and such. Very handy tool.
That white sand you get at the Masonry supply for mixing up white glass block mortar is some dense stuff, its heavy sand! FYI
Uncle buck has a few things I would love to get but international freight would probably bankrupt me!
'That's still hotter than I thought." Lol familiar words 🤣🤣🤣
Great video, very nicely done!
nice job Ting
Awesome! What I gather from this is that I won't be putting mine together at home.
Looks fantastic. Did you notice the difference in the ring when you started tapping the leg to settle that first batch of sand. Then when you tapped them again when adding the oil. It was a lot more quiet when they were full of sand and oil. Thanks for making the video.
Uncle Bucks Forge what steel do you use for your stricking anvils?
A36 steel.
@@Uncle_Bucks_Forge very kuul thank you.
Blessed days sirSir. I'll look for your channel to learn more. Crawford out
Uncle bucks forge. Do you sell these online anywhere or your swage blocks?
Yeah it deadened it right up when I started tapping it haha. I love this thing man. Thank you for providing quality tools to Smith's at a very affordable price
Looks good ting ting
Professional job👍👍
Thanks for showing. I would have messed up not pre heating
Add a cup holder on there for your punch fluid.
Absolutely on the list. I plan to put the cup between the legs to help keep forgetting scale out of it...and a drift and top tool rack on the sides.
@@CountyLineForge I hate that dreaded forgetting scale. (Fricken spell check.) :-)
Nice job there Mr. Smithy!
Need to get me one of those made up. Just curious how the square hole is cut out...that pretty thick stuff to hacksaw on lol lol
He cuts the blocks with a CNC oxy torch and cuts the holes with a CNC plasma cutter
@@CountyLineForge thank you. Looked him up n subbed. Now I'm more edjumacated lol. Thank yuo you for sharing. Blessed days sirSir, Crawford out
can you just use a tree stump for the base instead of the metal legs?
How much did the kit cost. This sounds exactly like what I’ve been looking for.
Does he sell these and his swage blocks online anywhere
I left a link to his channel. You can message him through there
@@CountyLineForge thank you
When I spoke with him at quadstate he said he didn't want to ship them anymore because the postage was eating him up. But it never hurts to ask though
@@gordonfamilyforge134 oh no, he will definitely ship them...he has a new video out on his channel about the blocks and he most certainly will ship...I don't think he expected to get so many orders...but since he is he knows he has to ship them if he wants to fill them I think.
@@CountyLineForge sweet!! That is good news
Where can I get this kit
You do realize that it'll be all screwed up because you used a tamping rod with a left handed twist on the right leg.
U still goin to brazil
I'm trying to. Doing a fund raiser to try to come up with the money because on my household income alone, it's not something I would be able to do.
Wish i could help man i just like listenin to that guy
Good job but looks awful low.
Well, its not
More commercial!
I could certainly add more if you wish lol.
What a load of BS-
