Beloved poet Pablo Neruda (Luis Gnecco) is also the most famous communist in post-WWII Chile. When the political tides shift, he is forced underground, with a perseverant police inspector (Gael García Bernal) hot on his trail. Meanwhile, in Europe, the legend of the poet hounded by the policeman grows, and artists led by Pablo Picasso clamor for Neruda’s freedom. Neruda, however, sees the struggle with his police inspector nemesis as an opportunity to reinvent himself. He cunningly plays with the inspector, leaving clues designed to make their game of cat-and-mouse ever more perilous. In this story of a persecuted poet and his obsessive adversary, Neruda recognizes his own heroic possibilities: a chance to become a symbol for liberty, as well as a literary legend.

I just saw it a couple of hours ago (loved it), I don't remember that piano piece in it it either.
I only remember orchestral pieces - mainly "The Death of Ase" from Grieg's Peer Gynt suite.

Era un poeta, tarado. Cuestiona a Hemingway por su alcoholismo o a Baudelaire por sus adicciones. La gente de derecha no tiene referentes artísticos, por eso se consuelan sacando articulitos mediocres sobre vidas privadas, para disimular su mediocridad. Jajajaja.

yes and no. His poetry is based in how he perceived the world and this hunting of him. Is about his personality, his ego, and all of that you can see it in his poetry.

A great Art film that merges revealing one of U.S.'s fascist client states, with Neruda's poetry, with his trying to escape from the Chilean totalitarian state.
