They played so much better here than they played at the Playboy Jazz Festival in L.A. just a few weeks earlier. It must have been early in the tour for the L.A. gig. Everybody sounds better here, really tight, like they're ready for the studio recording. They could have just taken the recording of the 1982 Montreal Jazz Festival gig, printed it and it would have sold well. Stan Mark on lead trumpet is at his best here, truly legendary.

I always get a kick when I come across a video from this era and see our friend, and daughter's private instructor, from more than 40 years ago! Gotta love seeing the young Nelson Hill and the current one is pretty great too!

First heard Maynard in 1973, I was just learning trumpet, I went home that night trying to figure out how to turn my horn into a lamp. Amazing, and a very down to earth "cool cat" .

Excellent spectacle! Un bon choix de pièces jazz variées et de très bons arrangements. Maynard Ferguson laisse beaucoup de place à son band et les solos des musiciens sont très originaux et créatifs.

"Hollywood" sounds like it was from and episode of "CHiPs". One of only a few TV shows I enjoy. Saw Maynard many times and he was incredible and just a very cool guy!

LOL! The opening tenor sax solo, just cracked me up!
And I thought I used to play some wild solos, that "were out there!" That dude, was a wild man!

The bass player is Matt Bissonette who would later go on to play with the likes of David Lee Roth, Joe Satriani, Ringo Starr and many others. Nice solo at 4:10.

This before Stan Mark got fired for not being there for the downbeat of a gig. He told the story where no one woke him up on the bus for the gig. Maynard fired him and told him it was misplaced loyalty.
