Emily B is a professional singer/songwriter who was a contestant on The Voice. She has VHL. In this video, she talks about having VHL and about May Awareness Month.
What is VHL? VHL (von Hippel-Lindau) is a genetic condition involving the abnormal growth of blood vessels in up to 10 parts of the body. Patients battle a series of tumors throughout their life. Not an easy thing to live with. My mother has it, as well as 2 aunts and 2 cousins (and didn't get to know my grand-father who died of a brain tumor). Luckily, I got spared but it isn't easy to watch relatives struggle with it. Kinda sad that so many people have no idea it exists.
