Goodwill is expensive everywhere. I work at a very popular church thrift store here and our prices can’t be beat. It’s like garage sale prices. I wish more thrift stores were like us. Great haul!
Same here, the local community thrift store is reasonable, goodwill is no longer affordable.
Yes! I stick with those and the on base thrift stores, as my husband is military. They are the best and cheapest.

During the pandemic! I found mason jars in my local Goodwill store and they were prices at $1.25 each for the half pint jars! Cheaper to buy them new!
I recently went to a "second hand store" and the quart size mason jars were $12.00. The owner said they were "vintage" and that antique collectors collect them. I am not an expert, but these were not very old.
When they became franchised. Some things are good but others are WAY too expensive.

The fireworks were beautiful. Badminton was always my favorite backyard sport. I'm sure the children will enjoy playing it. Tori is such a beautiful young lady, so glad she's feeling better.

Do you visit your local library so the kids can check out books there? If yes, I'd love to see a video about visiting there. I just retired from 25 yrs working at a county library. So under utilized in our community, the library is always looking for ways to get more people coming to the library. They have summer reading clubs for kids with small prizes every time you reach a goal and then a big party at the end of the summer. They also just renovated and now have a makers space with 3d machines, direct to garment printing etc..
Tori’s new dress looked so pretty on her. Looked like Solo made a yummy meal and the fireworks were beautiful.
My husband is a public librarian. He gets books donated all year long. Once a year, they have a big book sale as a fundraiser for the library. The prices are great especially for kids books! Maybe your local library has something similar. Your kids would love it!

I used to work at a thrift store. People would change price tags on items or take them off to try to get the cashiers to price it at a lower price than it was marked.
What the store I worked at would do is send it back to the price makers (taggers) in the back. Then chances are they would price is higher because they would be tired of the customers taking the tags off (hoping for a better price to be marked).
Also random tidbit for big sale days they would save up there higher end costly clothing items that previously weren’t selling on the racks. box them up and store them in the back then wait for a big sale day, where they would have half off clothing.
Just incase you’ve gone on a sale day and wondered why the prices seem to be higher.
I always thought it was an interesting way to go about it.
Best of luck on your new laundry soap recipe! My mother in law shared hers with us and it’s so cheap and easy to do I think I make I make 2 batches a year (5 adults 2 children plus one in cloth diapers.)
we use zote soap, borax and water. Sometimes adding oxi clean to our loads when we feel like it could use a boost.

I had an aunt that made all 9 grandchildren Christmas stockings with our birth order. I was #2, I am 62 and wish I had kept that stocking.

You can go to a farm store like tractor supply and buy fly spray and it smells like black tea leaves. You can put it in one of those automatic spray machines where it sprays a spritz once an hour. HELPS SOOO MUCH!

I agree, Goodwill is way to expensive. They get ( used) everything donated and then put prices that are sometimes higher than they were in a regular store.
Try shopping only on the 50% off the tag color, it’s a challenge!
Badminton is a fun game, we always had one in our backyard in the Summer! Happy your family has recovered from their illnesses!! The fireworks looked great!!
What did Nessa think of the fireworks? My dogs are so terrified of them. Farm/country life is the only way. Very hard work, but kept us kids out of trouble we had work to do all the time, our social life was church and going to eat with kids after church. Wouldn’t have traded it for anything else. My boys are 31 and 29 they still every chance they get, take their family and go visit their grandparents on the weekend. Along with all my other siblings and their kids and grandkids. Our family name was Green, so we call it Green Acres, it has a Community Building and our own Fire Dept. People come from all around the neighboring small town churches to our get togethers at the Community Building. I Thank God every day for my Christian family and the life they worked hard to build/provide for us. God is so good❤

I'm a house wife of over 24 years with no children from NC, and I'm also on a farm.
I wanted to make a suggestion about the flies (eww) Flies are definitely worse out in the country.
Is adding a screen - in - porch maybe to your new home, you could even add screen to your porch you have now. Not only do they keep flying insects out, but it makes it feel so cozy and beautiful. I have no issues with flies unless my husband comes through the back door. Also, country homes get dusty easier than living in town and air purifiers are the key in eliminating dust. Anyway was just a couple of suggestions 😊 God bless all of you ❤ 🙏

I have lived in the country all my life in Florida. Some years they are bad some years they are not. We have animals all around us. The best thing to get is fly bags. You can pick them up at Tractor supply. Hang one in the area and near your chicken coop. They are non toxic and they are very effective. Love your family.
I made the cheeseburger fried rice in a skillet on the stove. I just used a pound of ground beef and smaller amounts of all the ingredients. It turned out great and was delicious!

Tori's tunic is gorgeous on her , that meal looked delicious , citronella torches you can just stick them in the ground all around the house , that should help with the flies too and other insects . They hate citronella
Loved todays video! Thrift stores are responding to the uptick in demand whether it be for those trying to save or those who are trying to reduce waste and excess by buying used. It’s a sign of the times! The velvet bows the girls have been wearing are soooo adorable and I love the bow strips in the laundry/bathroom 🤭 The fireworks were AMAZING! Totally agree…thrift shop prices are so expensive now. They used to have “yard sale” prices, where things were .50 cents to 3.00. Like those green bottles should have been 2.00 each and the blue bowl 1.00. IMO. Still some cute finds. 😊

For the flies… I know this might sound crazy, but I tested it out at my parents house in the country and it completely worked. Put a little bit of water and a single penny in a plastic bag and hang it in the house. You might need one near each door. The flies will magically stop coming in your house.
I've seen it done with gallon Ziploc bags full of water near the back of a restaurant.

I tried a version of this and it kept the flies from our back deck/door. It was a gallon bag with water and pennies. It is suppose to look like a bigger bug.

I think this is just the time of year for bad flies unfortunately. I live on an acreage in the woods in Indiana and the flies have been AWFUL the past couple weeks. They are driving me crazy. Hoping they are gone soon.

I saw a fantastic idea you may want to I corporate in your new house - this family had a pot filler installed on the wall where their Berkey sits. No more carrying water to fill it up!
Sara, be careful with those flies. We ended up having fly larvae in our home this spring. It was a complete nightmare to get rid of. My exterminator told us all it takes is one or two flies to get in and then they lay eggs. It happens so fast and so quick it was completely traumatizing, it took two weeks to get rid of them with constant, vacuuming and swatting. Keep your doors closed as much as you can to prevent the flies from getting in. I had no idea how many eggs one fly could lay until this happened to us. I am OCD with the cleaning so for me this was really really hard to navigate through.

You need to go to garage sales and check with your local library. Ours has a bag sale 1st Sat of every month. As many books you can get in your bag( we've learned to take the largest one we can find. Always come with at least 20plus for $5 . Not bad keep the ones we like and give back the otherd for others to buy again.

I vowed and declared I would NEVER have fly strips in my house. We then moved to the country (in New Zealand) where we first experienced "cluster flies". I headed to our local hardware store and bought 2 packets of fly strips. My kids now tell everyone how "excited Mum gets when she hears buzzing on the fly strip" hahaha 😂😂😂. I LOVE them.

I love tori's tunic...she has good taste : ) I agree that thrift stores have gotten expensive overall, I suppose to keep up w/inflation everywhere. I live in NJ and there are times where I can find a great sale on brand new clothes at a regular store that are cheaper than the used clothes at the thrift store. Crazy. But I do love the thrift stores for finding cool household items like you found. I have managed to build up a small collection of beautiful white hobnail milk glass items (usually from the 1950's) for like $3/each. They are vases and pedestal bowls that go nicely in my kitchen. We discovered by accident that soapy water kills flies! My kids had added dish soap to make bubbles in their kiddie pool and when we went outside the next day, there were many dead flies and other insects dead in the pool! So now, when the flies get bad, we just put a bowl of soapy water out. ❤️

Laundry detergent. I use an emply gallon jug of vinegar to store my laundry detergent. I fill the vinegar jug with water, empty it into a large pot on the stove. I heat the water then add a scoop of Tide powder, 1/2 scoop of washing soda and 1/2 scoop of borax. Bring it to a boil, let it simmer for an hour, take it off the stove, let it cook then use the empty vinegar jug for storage. Hope that helps. Thanks for your videos.
Look into Tempo for flies (tractor supply has it usually), follow the package instructions in a sprayer and spray it on your house to help with the flies swarming near your home.

I just read to hang a ziplock bag with water on your door or patio overhang, something about the light hits the water and the prisms make the flys think they cannot enter. Found it fascinating. Supposed to work I guess.
Love all the bits about this video. I wish you lived nearby, I'm in the Midwest also. I have several glass & pottery bowls I need to unload, I'm trying to downsize some things. As for the flies, yes country living is full of them. I hang up Ziploc bags about 1/4 full of water and a penny or two around my garage. They were horrible last year, as soon as I hung them up in the morning by the afternoon the garage was clear. I don't understand the reasoning behind it but the bags are back in the garage this summer, no flies! Beautiful dress Torrie!
