I can only speak from my experience on this one....tunnel vision... I always had it in my head that a one on one or two on one was a set up on staff..everything is a set up on staff... I didn't want to be the victim ,,, the statistic,,, so I was taught to not rush Into a fight... let them fight.. it's their life... let them fight... check your surroundings... make eye contact and try to read other people's body language around you... make sure you're safe and all green is safe as you're approaching the scene.... "head on a swivel" realize no one is your friend no one is "cool" with you... they are befriending you.. to set you up.. that is GUARD WOKENESS
Surviving and thriving as a Corrections Officer in California involves a combination of professional skills, personal resilience, and self-care strategies. Here are some key tips:
Understand the System: Familiarize yourself with California's correctional policies, regulations, and procedures. Knowledge of the system helps in navigating complex situations and performing your duties effectively.
Maintain Professionalism: Adhere to the highest standards of conduct and ethics. Professionalism fosters respect and authority, which are crucial in managing challenging situations.
Develop Strong Communication Skills: Effective communication with both inmates and colleagues can prevent misunderstandings and conflicts. Clear and assertive communication helps in managing difficult situations and building trust.
Prioritize Safety: Always follow safety protocols and procedures to protect yourself and others. Stay vigilant and aware of your surroundings, and use personal protective equipment as required.
Manage Stress: The job can be highly stressful. Develop stress management techniques such as regular exercise, hobbies, or mindfulness practices to maintain your mental health.
Seek Support: Don’t hesitate to seek support from colleagues, supervisors, or mental health professionals. Building a support network can help you cope with the emotional and psychological challenges of the job.
Continue Education and Training: Engage in ongoing training and professional development. Staying updated on best practices and new techniques enhances your effectiveness and career growth.
Work-Life Balance: Maintain a healthy balance between your professional and personal life. Allocate time for family, friends, and activities that help you relax and recharge.
Set Realistic Goals: Set achievable goals for yourself in both your personal and professional life. This helps in maintaining motivation and tracking progress.
Know Your Resources: Familiarize yourself with available resources such as employee assistance programs, mental health services, and legal aid.
By integrating these practices into your daily routine, you can effectively manage the demands of the job and ensure your well-being and professional success as a Corrections Officer.

Nothing makes sense anymore
Facts
Thank you for this video helped me alot. I will be repeating this video when I start the job.
From experience taking a breath does really help. Especially when things pop off in your unit and you have to transmit over the radio what’s going on. Take a breath before jumping on that radio. Too many times all you hear is someone yelling and can barely hear what the hell is going on. Also play scenarios in your head on what you’re gonna do if this or that happens just to get the mind thinking. Think about what you’re gonna do and who are you gonna call or say over the radio. The best advice that Hector gave is realize where you’re at. Prison can flip in an instant. Be ready for anything especially people who work on “soft” yards. Don’t let that fool you and don’t get complacent. The whole walking in pairs is a great idea. Although where I work I’m the only officer in the unit. I make it a habit whenever someone comes inside my unit, whether it medical or a counselor or Lt, I always make sure to walk with them in the unit. Or if they have to meet 1 on 1 with an inmate I make sure I’m near by just in case something happens. Stay out of that office when you have visitors in your unit. Stay safe and Gods speed!
Another great video Hector. CDC has changed so much since I retired but certainly not for the better. 🤕🤕
I use all kind of tactics, I always breathe 😂
GOOD SUNDAY LT. ENJOY SOME SUN AND CARNE ASADA TODAY. STAY SAFE.
You can be the difference between life or death for someone. The best advice my father (he was an EMT) was head wounds regardless of size are bleeders and in a bad situation was to not panic, if you panic you won't be able to help yourself stay safe.
Good morning LT!
Good morning LT love the vids keep at it.
Good morning! Thank you for that 💪
Chris Lesniak is the real California model
That tobacco shit was hilarious, I only did a short bid in Corcoran level one years ago, and wasn't sure how the guards never smelt that shit. You made me realize they probably didn't give a shit. I did have one CO that took my headset my bunkie gave me when he went home because it didn't have my name engraved in it. Dickhead lol then I had no way to listen to music, one of the few releases inmates are allowed.
Like you said it needs to be trained especially with weapons. With tunnel vision people focus on the target and can shoot through what’s in between them and the target, possibly hitting teammates and innocents. Very important Lt.
Hector...Welll Said for Training.....
Finally what AA teaches !!!! Solutions not only Negativity. GREAT JOB LT.....
The cops think they managers gonna get phased out😂
Hey Hector what do u think of my 3 year hunger strike the cops ordered like they gonna pretend that ain't gonna get my partner's partner killed

Thank you brother!
Hey Lt. you know any of the old CO’s from San Quintin? Duke? Ceja? Or any of the IGI?
L.T BRAVO! will lead the new officers and support staff.
Going threw the hiring process now , wish me luck LT
You got this 💪
If you want to be successful in this career and survive, you should listen to people who know. The inmate population is not here for singing too loud in the choir. Some are cool, some will split your head and not think twice about it. Thanks for the shout out, G!
STAY TRUCHAS 😎
New co just got done with my first week of academy
What’s up! 🙌
@@thatprisonguard well found out today I retained my seniority from when I worked for the state back in 2014. I’m wondering if my payroll reflect that too either way it’s the highest paying job in my state.
The loss of experience and knowledge… from top down we are getting greener .. if you have 1 or more years in your experienced .. even Lt and CSI are greener like 5-10 years experience if your lucky . Just setting up for a tougher job. Stay alert , head on a swivel
