I remember when I first saw this on TV. It blew my head off and I was already listening to a ton of metal. I went out and bought the album the next day. These are the only men who can wear more make-up than any drag queen and STILL come across as 200% macho and metal as fuck!
They won the respect of the biker gangs in the NJ area because they wore lingerie on stage and weren't afraid of jumping off the stage and mixing it with any piss takers.......'Animal' Mendoza, the bass player, didn't so much play his bass as punch the fuck out of it; he belonged to a New Yorker biker gang whose idea of fun on a Saturday night was to derail trains......one time when they were touring before they hit the big time, they had a tyre blow out on the tour bus, and they had no jack so Mendoza lifted the back axle up and held it up so they could change the tyre! They are ALL crazy though......
i think they wore make-up not for preety looking , they intend to mock the fashion and the world, just like marilny manson who described as fashion criminal
Dee was easily THE most intense metal frontman ever. He's like Angus Young with a mic instead of a guitar. Always 100 PERCENT on. And one hellvua set of pipes to boot!
I was 14 when I got this first Twisted record, yet I still love it as much as I did then. I can't say that about too many other metal albums. great tunes, great band, and one of the best frontmen of all time. SMF for life.
I just love Mark Mendoza’s way of jumping back and forth between the high and low octaves on his baselines. This opening song is a fantastic example of him doing that.
He was amazing and always made time for fans. He had no problem showing he got a kick out of my crazy 14-year-old self going nuts over the band when I was right up against the crash board when they opened Ratt after Lita Ford open for them
Destroyer was the first song I ever listened to on my first personal stereo player back in 1983, walking about my parents house, with all the lights out, music all about me, I have never beaten that awesome feeling.
Yep. Saw it Friday night on The Tube, went to see them at the Marquee 2 days later. Place was absolutely rammed. Show was "as advertised" here. My father had bought a Betamax video recorder about 6 months earlier. Great investment. When I saw the documentary movie a few years ago, it showed their long apprenticeship in the unfashionable suburbs of New York. This live performance did not come out of nowhere!
I remember my older brother explaining to me that back in the early 80s when he got this Album (Under the Blade) that it was some of the heaviest hard hitting music about. By fuck he was not lying \m/
Remember watching this performance and was blown away by TS kept it on VHS video for years after lol. Bought tickets to see them at Birmingham Odeon on this tour & even got my I am I'm Me EP signed by the band & still got it to this day.One of the best gigs I ever went too, brilliant. Thanks for uploading.
Man seems like Yesterday An american kid from Queens NYC Living in Ireland at the time So proud to see my fellow New Yorkers kicking ass across the pond Love Twisted Sister I thought this was 1983 or 84 though
The fact that it's 2017 and yet I still remember watching this on my TellyBox way back when, proves what an impact this show had on me.....Not a massive fan of Twisted Sister but they sure as hell Rocked the shit out of The Tube that day.....Wasn't there more though?, or did they play 2 sets?, I remember Dee making some big statement about make-up and them doing Shoot Em Down!!!
GARY171064 Because in the documentary movie they talk about "the tube" and the paint removal you mentioned. It was a REALLY good documentary that told the history of twisted sister and how they started and eventually became the band they were. Every fan SHOULD watch it.
This, 'I am, I'm me' on TOTP and 'We're not gonna take it' on Razzmatazz (remember that?) kick started my love of TS, was the talk all over school the next day. The nuns were not impressed
Forgotten how powerful these guys were in the early days. Saw them at bham Odeon in 84. Saw dee at bloodstock ,2019 ,still fabulous. Many thanks for posting.
Tonight I heard about this video and all tribulations the band had to deal with in order to be Twisted Sister. Coast to Coast AM 9/25/2021. Congratulations Jay on the new Book! Things I never knew about the band! P.S. Strangleland is a freakin epic Horror Flick!
I saw this as a kid, when I became a teen I got into the band bigtime. I got a signed 12inch vinyl of We're not gonna take it. It's one of my prize possessions.
i remember looking at this with my brother who was a huge TSfan,i was 9 then and grew up listening to metal then my tastes changed, the pixies grunge etc but always have a soft spot for TS,they had the shittest luck any band could have had
I love youth. I don't care which era. I love youth of the 60s, I love youth of the 80s, I love youth of the 2000s. I would've fit pretty much anywhere in time. Youth is life at its peak. And it sickens me to become old and tired and boring.
I was there. Used to queue up every week for the show the next week. Bus from Wallsend, then stood in all weather with Peter Rae & Marty Rigby for our tickets. Saw some great bands....& some white ones as well.

Just reading Dee's biog. This show was a gamble and cost them money to fly over, most of which they borrowed off family and friends. However, it payed off!

I ain't gonna lie Twisted Sister was bad ass live.
Super!! That drummer delivers some serious energy!
They always sounded way heavier live than they did on the records. A.J. Pero was a monster drummer, God rest his soul.
One of the best rock/metal front men.Pretty impressive voice as well.

A magical time in Metal indeed 🤘🏻
Eternally grateful to Secret Records, for having the faith to bring out Under The Blade. Their best album. By far.Or we might not have had them.
I’m so glad I grew up in the 80s
I wish I was in the 80s
