Jan 16 1982 preformance of 'Under The Blade" very early show on TV.Shows how Metal TS really was before all that MTV crap. And this was from the Flo and Eddie Show...
They dressed like rough n tough drags to make fun of the glam metal bands popping out of the 80s. Even fucking Dee Snider will tell ya straight up that he thinks Poison sucks ass
My friends mom dated Dee Snider in high school and was his senior prom date. She broke up with him because she thought he was ugly and his band sucked. She definitely regretted that, like, a year later. lol.
This was shot at the time when I would be visiting a place called Hammerheads to see these guys about once a month. Probably the best live shows I've seen. Unbelievable energy, great songs (the later stuff suffered), and you'd get 3 full sets of music! First set was originals, second was a mix of originals and covers,a nd the last set was done without Dee (by then his voice was shot).
Saw them perform in a bowling alley in 1981. Was blown away with their live intensity. Snyder was unabashed and willing to let it all hang out. He is/was a rock and roll crusader.
Man this was when Twisted used to blow away everybody in the Tri-State club scene. Every where they played the place was packed and Rocking like Thunder. So many great memories seeing these guys in the clubs back in the day. I used to always make my way up to the front of the stage and rock out with These bad boys. Rock On Glenn Augustyn
I grew up listening to these guys. Their music helped me through some tough times in the 80's. I last saw the band perform live at the Star Theatre in Merriville Indiana in 1987 with Grim Reaper and Loudness as the opening acts. I also saw them on their Come Out and Play and Stay Hungry tours. Awesome.
Still have the '82 Ruff Cuts EP & my SMF card. Sold out nites at the Marquee Club. The venue at bursting point. Sweat dripping from the ceiling. Oh, to be young again! Happy, happy days....
Love the video, this is how I remember them. Front row, Hammerheads, late 81 early 82, 3 sets, incredible energy. Loved when Mendoza played his bass with the mic stand.
I remember when the Under The Blade record was a local demo that was being passed around in HS. It was so heavily traded that EVERYONE went out to see the band. If you ever thought you KNEW TSister and think they're a cheesy glam metal band THEN SEEK OUT THE RECORD "Under the Blade." Do NOT get the remixed version of this record. You MUST get the recording on the "Secret" Record label.
Awesome! This is the TS I remember from the early 80’s club days in North Jersey. Soap Factory, Mothers, Hole In The Wall, etc.. Saw them a million times. Seems like yesterday.
Me too! Hammerheads every Sat. nite, 3 sets, the third with Eddie and Jay Jay doing vocals (Dee's voice was baked after 2 sets). I still have my Hammerheads T-shirt form their 2000th performance-the band all wore white tuxedos with pink trim. What a trip to see this.
Hey tuberkong...I used to go to the Fore 'n Aft back in 68, 69, 70...they had a great house band then - the Gas House Kids, featuring a fantastic chick singer - Lynn Bocuminni, aka Mountain Dew. They recorded one album under the name Velvet Night. Great singer, great band, great bar.
The stage they're playing on looks just like the one at February's - a rock nightclub they used to play in Elmont, LINY. TSister is amazing and always put on a show whether the crowd was 500 or 5.
saw then at the rooftop skyroom in Buffalo on a cold autumn night - warm up act was Queensryche who was touring for their ep. Maybe 300 people - heavy as a ton of bricks - goes down in the books as one of my best ever gigs. SMF!!!
I remember the “faster version “” was live.. . Loved this album, I think I got mine in the import section at a store I. Arlington TX lol I guess, Metallica, maiden, ozzy, still ruled but we still had Saxon, grim reaper, accept sister .. ❤️❤️❤️
For me it was at "Detroits" in Port Chester, NY where I used to see them every friday it seems . Sometimes with Harlequinn or White Tiger. Dee was insane. He used to tell us kids to go to the dance club down the road and annoy all the disco boys and gals
Yep, that's the one. Mine is missing some pieces, but it's still intact. And I still have my shirt from their 2000th performance at Hammerheads, Feb 5 1982.
Great clip! I love seeing rare tv show clips so much more than the usual videos we all see a million times. Sister's performance fucking rocked! Very hard, very raw, very METAL.Awesome....Thanks for putting this up.
I watched this on an actual TV set that only got 13 channels. I think the Flo and Eddie show was some kind of local access PBS show at around 4pm? Stuff like this was somehow more special when I consumed it live, one time only. And Joel Martin.
Not really.. Twisted Sister were a glamrock band in th 70's, but they changed their style around 77/78 and they eventually became a full-blown heavy metal band. Then by 1985 they confused everyone with the "Come Out and Play" album, because there were all kinds of genres represented on there, but most of all hard rock, which was the way they ended it all with the last album (which was really a Dee Snider solo)
For me, it was Hammerheads on LI every Sat nite. And Dee would keep up this energy for two hour-long sets. The third set was comprised of whatever the band felt like playing, taking requests (they played Happy Birthday a few times), and JJ and Eddie singing lead. I even saw them do "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King. Awesome live band.
Dee is from N.Babylon L.I.,N.Y.,2 miles from my home.Used to se them in "Hamerhedz" (w. Islip),"Cheers"(N.Babylon),and the "Stone Henge"(N.Babylon) before it went toppless. They used to do a great song "I like rock n roll and disco really sucks" They would smash a pile of Donna Summer's records! great!
Dang, I love those old 80's BC Rich guitars... the sound on the rythem guitar is pretty decent, would love to have heard it in a better recording. Neil Moser (the fellow who designed this particular model) is a brilliant craftsman.
I haven't seen any comments recognizing Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan of the Turtles, who are the duo doing the introduction. Both talented musicians themselves!
I still have the 45 that TS put out on their own, with the pink label. It's backed with "I'll Never Grow Up, Now!" And my SMF card from 1982!! The best live band ever.
If the January 1982 date is accurate it's too late to be Tony Petri and too early to be AJ Pero. While the quality isn't great and there aren't any closeups, comparing him and his kit to the pictures of the intermediate drummers on the Metal-Archives site I think this is "Fast" Joey Brighton. Ritchie Teeter (Dictators) also played in between Petri and Pero, so it could be him, but based on the pictures I can find I think it's Brighton.
Reading through comments, a few people asked about the drummer, and I believe this is Joey Brighton, a guy that didn't last too long (couldn't keep time very well or something).
@Wowbagger86 Very true. The Parental Advisory sticker is the best example to your point. They thought it would put a stop to evil music. It just further fueled the flames.
They sure may have a Glam image, but they were always a Heavy Metal band.
They dressed like rough n tough drags to make fun of the glam metal bands popping out of the 80s. Even fucking Dee Snider will tell ya straight up that he thinks Poison sucks ass
u exactly right!!!
@@trevorsnell3344 true!!

So did I.. your mom I mean.. lol. Cheers mate🍺
this has long been my fave TS track. The version they laid down on vinyl never quite captured this energy tho'. fucking great performance
yeah i wish they had continued with this speed/thrash-style

Praise Metal! I'm from Connecticut and they would always put on amazing shows back in the day! Those were great and memorable times! Rock On!🥰

I was at Hammerheads in Islip any Sat night these guys were playing. Right off Sunrise Hwy in an old supermarket.
Still have the '82 Ruff Cuts EP & my SMF card. Sold out nites at the Marquee Club. The venue at bursting point. Sweat dripping from the ceiling. Oh, to be young again! Happy, happy days....
2:25 I love those KISS style guitar swings!
When they was a real heavy metal band...
jay jay french plays fierce guitar.
RIP AJ.
I saw them at Summer Night 1981 in Nurnberg Germany... It was Bloody Awesome!
Amazing performance
Love the video, this is how I remember them. Front row, Hammerheads, late 81 early 82, 3 sets, incredible energy. Loved when Mendoza played his bass with the mic stand.

Kickass performances of a incredible song!! SMF 4 LIFE!!

They bring it - and deliver.

my favorite 80s metal band
Once upon a time, I used to go see them at L'amour in Brooklyn. Oh to be that young & carefree! 1982 is calling & I wanna redo!
Guitars a blazing!😎😎 ROCKS AND ROLLS! AMERICA!
Yep, that's the one. Mine is missing some pieces, but it's still intact. And I still have my shirt from their 2000th performance at Hammerheads, Feb 5 1982.

Used to go and see them at hammerheads on long Island NY, back in the late 70s early 80s. Man did they rock and pack the place
Simply awesome!

i believe that i m gonna loose my head listen to this. hail to you all SMF
Los mejores de mi epoca!! Dios, los adoro!

OMG this is exactly how I remember watching them in my late teens! lol... Asbury Park, New Joisy!
this doesn't suck
It rules
First time i saw them was in 1979 and last time was two days ago.. They were the best back then and nothing has changed in 32 years........
Twisted Sister weren't really Glam Metal.
They were more of Heavy Metal with GLam clothing.
Dee is from N.Babylon L.I.,N.Y.,2 miles from my home.Used to se them in "Hamerhedz" (w. Tipper Gore is fucking wrong about this song their is no reference to bondage only to surgery

That was so incredibly awesome. Thanks for that clip.
I haven't seen any comments recognizing Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan of the Turtles, who are the duo doing the introduction. Both talented musicians themselves!
AMEN, this rocks! When metal was fun!
Yes, he left just as TS got signed and joined Plasmatics. He's on a track on the Metal Priestess ep.
Superb! Thanks for sharing this.
uno de los mejores temas de heavy-metal, bestial
I still have the 45 that TS put out on their own, with the pink label. It's backed with "I'll Never Grow Up, Now!" And my SMF card from 1982!!
The best live band ever.
Misericordia... quanti erano grandi i twisted nel primo lp
"you know you're not going home tonight" awesome!!! classic 80's anger!!!
absolutly superb. saw them twice at the marquee in london
DAMN THIS IS BAD ASS. But what is with that clap track at the end? It sounded like end scene from Different Strokes. Also, who is drumming here?

@@markvignati6413 it was AJ! Tony actually left the band in 1980, Richie Teeter replaced him, then AJ came on board April of 82
Oh crap! I used to hang out at Februarys!!! On Hempstead Turnpike!!!
my all time TS song ever!!!!!!!!
Freekin awesome....It's like it was just last week...but 26 years..!! ?? Holy Shize.!!

yeah me too thats when t.s. went to europe cause nobody wanted to back em . one of my favorite albums in my collection souly cause its on secret
How could anybody not like that performance?! Even I love that song (normally disliking Glam stuff). Twisted Sister is awsome.
I love twisted sister.
Reading through comments, a few people asked about the drummer, and I believe this is Joey Brighton, a guy that didn't last too long (couldn't keep time very well or something).
Zaffys Bar an Grill ... Great Memories....
TS FTW! My absolute favourite

Best metal band of all time!!!
@Wowbagger86
Very true.
The Parental Advisory sticker is the best example to your point.
They thought it would put a stop to evil music. It just further fueled the flames.
new york new york...
Love the polite applause at the end.
Fucking raw
As I understand, 1st song Dee ever wrote. What a kick-ass starter
The guitars are awesome!
Dee Snider has one of the best voices around
I always found that TS's musical style, and career path were very reminiscent of KISS. I have a feeling that the former was quite intentional.
Considering Jay Jay French auditioned for KISS, it would make sense
Awesome engery! They just went out and kicked ass. T.S deserves more props then they get.
Fucking KILLER
YEAH! THESE GUYS ROCK!!!.......
lots of great energy
This is how I remember them ! ! !
