I had a crack on the front gear cover of a 12.7 Detroit in a Freightliner. I got an estimate to fix it, $6k. Oh hell no! JB weld and some elbow grease, never leaked again in 400,000 miles! It's all about the prep, if you clean it real good, JB is indestructible.
i no why you drilled it but don't understand why u had to thread it since u wasn't going o stitch it back?? could u please enlighten me, unless its for the jb weld to grip better in the threads?.. ill be tiring this on my 3.0 mercruiser this summer? thank u
it still holding? i had mine welded last summer put everything back in it new and got it running like new but be4 i put it back in the boat winter set in and i forgot to pull drain plugs and re-cracked it and cracked new spot now.. lol just my luck.. so i thought one last try i thought id JB it plus now the new spot is in the exhaust manifold have to do it also.. which JB should i buy for this project if u don't mind me asking? they r so many diff ones on the market..@@theprojectchannel4434
I'm not sure what size and the specifics of the drill bit were but, I would match the drill bit size to the tap you would use. The tap would correspond in size the the bolt you want to use. I used a 1/4-20 bolt and tap. I think it is a number 1 size drill bit or anything between 0.1960" and 0.2070" in size for drill bit. Any high quality metal drill bit will work just fine use some sort of cutting oil and low speed.
Could the Columbia crew have safely returned with a tube of J.B. Weld? Could Chernobyl have been prevented with J.B. Weld? Inquiring minds want to know.

It truly is some awesome stuff!
Good stuff.
Thanks!
Hint: when you do a 2 part video, Name them the same, Just add 1/2 . Otherwise post people only see one video...
Ok, thank you for the advice!
Well done
Thank you!

I drilled and tapped it so the JB Weld would have something to bite into rather then a smooth hole.

My 2002 300ex case is busted put it together with jb weld never leaked
Just interested to know how JB weld compares with Belzona 1111?
This would be a great experiment if the JB weld fails to hold. Where would I find Belzona?
How’s it holding up still?
I still haven't had any issues with it since fixing it with JB weld.
@@theprojectchannel4434what about now?
What kind/size drill bit did you use?

did it work? i have the exact same crack
I am in the process of putting everything back together and filming. I should be able to test it out and have a video posted of it by Sunday.
@@theprojectchannel4434 cool what size bolts did you use?
@@adtech247 I used a 1/4-20 set screw, but a bolt would work perfectly as well.
