It was part of the Duchy of Normandy. When the Engilish Crown gave up French possecions in 12 84 the Islands were given a choice to remain with the English Crown or revert to French rule. We made the right decision.

Hence the current situation. The Islands are Bailiwicks, they have the right to make their own laws , raise taxes , independent of the British Parliment at Westminster, that really annys Left Wing Poloticians,. The Head of state is the Monarch, the Head of the Island States is the Baillif, a Crown Appointment, and the Representative of the Monarch is the Lieutenatant Governor, who sits blow the Baillif in the states. The Stataes have thier Mace.
@New King You will hear that UK never had conscription outside the two World Wars. Not quite! The Islands had conscription , what became the Royal Militia Island of Jersey is actually the longest organised part of the British Military, not the senior as the Gaurds claim, because it was disbanded in the 1950's. Now there is a Jersy Feild Squadron RMIJ part of the Reserve. In WW1 there was never a Jersey Battalion such as the Royal Gurnersey Light Infantary, but men served in all services. In WW2 the RMIJ beacme part of the 11th Service battalion the Hampshire Regiment. This ws never allowed to serve as a unit due to the Pal's Battalions tragedy of WW1 including the RGLI. but men could transfer to fighting battalions and keep the RMIJ cap badge. Historically Sir France Drake was once govenor of Elizabeth Castle. During the Civil War Gurnersy (Still a bone of contention ) went with parliment, Jersey stayed loyal. On 6th January 1781, the French decided to invade the Island's. They took offence that we had , out of loyalty to our Monorach of course, sent ships to capture prefidious French ships supplying those pesky rebels in America. A Major Pierson organised defence with regular and militia units, and sent them packing. Pierson was killed, his black servant Pompey , avenged him. The whole thing is the subject of an epic paintaing called the Death of Pierson, painted by an American. As you can see I like the irony of the Little Rock's history.
@New King Ah ! Look up La Cotte De St Brelade. Neolithic man was about, the area was originally part of Dogger Land. There are 12 parshies each has it' s own parish church. There are both types of churches in the Island, never had an intrest in relgion, so can't answer detailed questions. There is the Jersey Archive that has a lot of records and the Jerias Wikapidia. Records are held at Parish level, you would need the Parish Hall of your ancestors. Each Parish also has it's own Police force, the Honarary Police, the head being the Connetable of the Parish, under him the Centeniers, then the Vingteners. This dates back to the Norman Heritage. Odd fact: Emily Le Breton AKA Lily Langtry was the daughter of the Dean of Jersy, who was a infamous womaniser, she is buried at St Saviour's church. The correct term for a Jersey person is Crapaud- means toad- often wrongly applied to the French. The Jersy Common Toad is a distinct species.
@New King I know the feeling. :-) No known cure for the History bug. There is no Alford Parish in the Island's but that dosen't mean anything. My surname is Banner, and the background proudly Welsh Coal miners, my parents moved to Island so that's why I'm here. www.theislandwiki.org/index.php/Jerripedia
you probably don't understand what is french influance .Jersy people are brits and they have nothing to do with their own identify .If you move to Alsace you will see that local people abstain from French and Germans .
What immigration check from FRANCE to JERSSY , Because I keep only my italian is card with me, any more documents is a burden Which ports allow to board on ferry on ID card only
Jersey has been destroyed. Officially most expensive place in the world to live. No benefits available for five years and borders are now closed. High crime. Low quality of life. So jammed up with cars it’s quicker to cycle.
Takes 2 hours to drive around the Island. But honestly just because you had such a shit time and got ripped off a bit doesn't mean that the island is a bad place.. The fact that you refer to it as 'that island' says it all... I am not even sure how you got a job there to be honest...
What are you so butt hurt about? She never said it was a bad place. She was pleasant and informative. The only people complaining about Jersey in the comment section are the people FROM Jersey and they're far more blunt.
How weird is this. A lovely South African lady expounding the virtues of living in Jersey. Not sure how we are connected at all? However nicely written and produced. Let us hope this puts people off as we have enough people here already. We are overloaded and moving around the Island is getting uncomfortable. The Island is 9 miles x 5 miles only. There are more than enough Range Rovers. We don't need more.
Bit of a harsh comment, the lady simply gave people an overview to a place she herself feels connected to and beautifully explained for those eager to make the move themselves. Unfortunately I don’t think you personally can regulate the amount of people that move to the island, as there are plenty recruiters advertising generous work offers for potential candidates and your tax system is considered quite favourable, hence people coming. I’d think your economy is benefiting from this demand and surplus of investments, but who am I to say. Have a good day Paul, we can all use a little bit more positivity :)
No England do things similar to Jersey, we own England! It was us who went over with William to kick the Harold's ass. The UK Monarch's oldest title is the Duke or Duchess of Normandy.
Err, no actually. The only people who went over with the Conquerer were the Normans who were NOT French and utterly despised the French and any of their lackeys like the population of Jersey. Maybe a few Jersey people went over as servants to polish the Normans armour but there were never any Jersey knights.
Funny, lots of people asking if their racial or ethnic group is there before they move or visit and then getting upset by racist replies......... If you put race conditions in your life you will receive race comments. Anyway, those beans can be insular, it is an island after all.........

I feel dizzy now
I hope you are ok.
you probably don't understand what is french influance .Jersy people are brits and they have nothing to do with their own identify .If you move to Alsace you will see that local people abstain from French and Germans .
Ok.
Can you please do a video on Jersey taxation. Especially for self employed and small business.

Not sure about that one.
down with the Donkeys, Crapaud's for the win.
Mam, nice explanation! am from India, how can I get Nursing job over there?
Thank you. I am not sure, it would be best to research.
@@BombshElle_7 Oh shut your pie hole..
I see you still have to pay importation fees.
Worth checking
Yea Jersey made me import tax on a computer
How weird is this. A lovely South African lady expounding the virtues of living in Jersey. Not sure how we are connected at all?
However nicely written and produced. Let us hope this puts people off as we have enough people here already.
We are overloaded and moving around the Island is getting uncomfortable.
The Island is 9 miles x 5 miles only.
There are more than enough Range Rovers. We don't need more.
Thanks, though not from SA
What does it matter how you are connected? Lots of people move around these days, go figure........
You can leave to make way for the new influx.

Me too
So....the rich don't pay and the working class pays taxes. But it's like that everywhere. Thanks for the info. Very interesting 👌
No England do things similar to Jersey, we own England! It was us who went over with William to kick the Harold's ass. The UK Monarch's oldest title is the Duke or Duchess of Normandy.
You don't own shit you bum
Err, no actually. The only people who went over with the Conquerer were the Normans who were NOT French and utterly despised the French and any of their lackeys like the population of Jersey. Maybe a few Jersey people went over as servants to polish the Normans armour but there were never any Jersey knights.
@@Britishshooter The Channel Islands were always part of Normandy until 1066, it’s not as if Jersey had been it’s “lackey”.
How are you
Baby Najmin well thank you and hope you are too.
Funny, lots of people asking if their racial or ethnic group is there before they move or visit and then getting upset by racist replies......... If you put race conditions in your life you will receive race comments.
Anyway, those beans can be insular, it is an island after all.........
Can you kindly help to get job there 🙏
