My Biggest Mistake in China? | Zhangjiajie National Forest Park

  • Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in China's Hunan Province is known to be one of the most stunningly beautiful places in the world - a UNESCO World Heritage Site that inspired the movie "Avatar" with its more than 3,000 sandstone pillars and peaks, some higher than 200 meters/660 feet. Unfortunately, my adventures in the Avatar Mountains with its glass bridge and grand canyon and Tianzi Mountain didn't go as planned...Around the 3:50 mark, I talk about how my friends and I have been rethinking our framing around regret and 'bad' decision making. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that or anything else in the video!

    Your logic at 3:50 is sound - you undoubtedly made the right decision even though it didn't end up working out very well!

    The dealing with disappointment thing is such a big part of traveling. SO many things go wrong traveling it’s easy to let yourself get down. So you seemed to be very positive about it!

      SO TRUE, so much can end up going wrong. But yeah, I try to stay positive - some days are more positive than others haha

      I stopped watching at 3:00. So tired of her complaining and not opening her eyes to the beauty I can see from the few times she does not have the camera on herself while she complains.

    Nice video. Thank you for sharing. What a nightmare going all the way to the top and there was zero visibility, that's the kind of luck I would have lol. You looked really cold on your way back down. That ticketing system is definitely weird because you're definitely travelling back down the same way you went up, unless you have packed a parachute lol. Totally agree about the wildlife and a definite no giving them plastic.

      @LeighAnneMarie  5 років тому +1

      Loll I should have brought my parachute! The cold and zero visibility was a bummer, I was just so happy to be able to see a few good views and the monkeys the next day. Yes, it was so disappointing to see tourists interacting with them like that :/ Thank you for watching, Steven!

    Thank you for sharing, love winter scenery so really enjoyed what you managed to show us, felt the cold just watching, agree with u about the decision to visit being a sound one, weather conditions can rarely be helped, hope you warmed up well Leigh.

      Thanks so much for watching and for your thoughtful comment, Scott :) So true, we've just gotta roll with the weather conditions that life serves up to us

    Went there a couple of months before you. We decided to book a tour on a minibus recommended by the small hotel we stayed in. As it turned out, we were the only two booked so we were taken in a car instead with our own personal guide/chauffeur. It did rain hard at times but the mist and cloud only made it more atmospheric. The only disappointment - guide taking us to an eating establishent in the mountains. KFC!!! Didn't get to see the glass bridge but did the glass walkway on Tianmen over looking Zhangjiajie City. Fantastic day - I just can't understand why I didn't take any videos other than a short clip going down the mountain elevator.

      @LeighAnneMarie  3 роки тому

      That's so awesome that you ending up getting a personal guide! Lol KFC, that's unexpected. I hope I get to return to Zhangjiajie someday when the weather is better!

    I think it looks beautiful. That's what you get in high mountains during cold weather.

      Snowy mountains are definitely beautiful but google "Zhangjiajie National Forest" and you'll see what I was missing. I can see beautiful snowy mountains in California, but the views at Zhangjiajie are once in a lifetime if you're lucky enough to see them

    Are you alone in that tram? I hope that you are having a good time. I have your support. The season is different. In USA it is summer. It is odd that it is snowing over there

    • @LeighAnneMarie
      @LeighAnneMarie  5 років тому

      Yes I was alone in the tram, should have taken it as a sign that there wouldn't be a good view at the top haha! This was actually filmed back in February, I'm behind in editing...

    The time around 2:50 had me dying 😂😂 it sucks that you got stuck with bad weather 😫 but on the bright side you did still get some good views from the bottom 😃 hopefully next time you go back you’ll get good weather! 😱 I can’t believe the tourists would give the monkeys plastic! That’s horrible!

    • @LeighAnneMarie
      @LeighAnneMarie  5 років тому +1

      😂😂 I feel like I was trying to find the humor but also pretty close to losing my mind at that moment haha! I was SO happy that I got some good views the next day. I can only imagine how truly incredible it would be on a clearer day. Yes, such a huge bummer to see the plastic interaction :/ Thanks for watching, Crystal!!

    Shame about the white out ,I wouldn’t worry to much about the monkeys they are just local entrepreneurs taking advantage of the free food , I’d be more worried about the engineering on the lifts etc , you are so brave can’t wait for the next episode .. take care thank s for sharing 👍

    • @LeighAnneMarie
      @LeighAnneMarie  5 років тому

    lol. No one in his/her sane mind would go to Zhangjiajie in winter to see its full green splendour. You can't see the "floating mountains" of Avatar at all. On the positive side, you have the entire park pretty much to yourself. Lol again. :)

    • @LeighAnneMarie
      @LeighAnneMarie  5 років тому +1

      There was a little bit of a glance into the splendor of the floating mountains on the second day, but definitely an overall disappointment :/ I hope I can go back in warmer, clearer weather someday
