Never Stop Chasing.
I loved this video!! I am a Native Arizonan so flash floods are in my blood. I don't think the average person realizes how dangerous and sudden they are. But, thank God for the rain, we can maintain a very large population in a desert because of the tributaries and the runoff into larger waterways!! Thank you for sharing this footage, we'll done!
They are dangerous alright
I saw a video of a family driving through a canyon to park up and take a hike, but it started to rain and flash flood. The family quickly got back into their vehicle, and started to drive back out, but the waters were getting deeper and deeper, so the father decided to drive onto a small elevated island and wait it out. As they sat in the vehicle waiting, they saw another family in a compact car floating backwards in the flood waters, they slammed into an overhang of rocks, but they were actually saved from getting stuck because of the force of the waters pushing them. Rescue had gotten to the family stuck on an elevated island, the mom and kids were flown out by helicopter, while the dad waited for an all terrain vehicle to pull his truck back onto the road. It was an AMAZING story, just look on UA-cam for the family stuck in Utah's national canyon.
You described this accurately. Remarkable video. I think it was Capitol Reef.
Yeah, I watched the same one a few days ago! That was wild!
I saw that one too! It is miraculous that no one who had gone into the canyon that day was killed or seriously injured!
I've definitely seen that video! Crazy! With the helicopter right!?
I saw this too. The father did an amazing job protecting his family!! And he even got to drive his truck out.
Any weather phenomenon whether it be a flash flood or snow lightning it’s truly remarkable when you get to experience weather firsthand it’s a whole different feeling!!!
This is an amazing format that is really growing on me. Like a slideshow of information mixed with multiple views and in depth explanation with high detail and notations. Great job Reed.
Thought the same thing, love this format
I’ve been watching you chase tornados for years. I love seeing you here in my AZ backyard showing us the monsoons!
Monsoon storms
Lived in AZ my whole life. We learned to fear the flash flood, but it's really interesting to see them in action.
Witnessing any flash flood is always a cool thing to see even on a mini scale!
"Enjoy the ooze" has got to be the best way to describe beautiful debris flow videos 👍
Reed, I love how you have diversified your incredible knowledge of "intense weather" to include Monsoons in addition to your infamous Tornado coverage. It was a Brilliant decision.
But that's not all ...The free videos you are providing to the public via UA-cam, I know are making a Huge impact on students of all ages.
In addition, children who may not otherwise have the opportunity to understand and learn how intense weather impacts their lives and future, are able learn from your new EXCITING videos ! WOW!
How cool is that?!
I encourage everyone to like and share your videos to generate donations for you to keep up the great content! ps. love the haircut, your looking great! "keep dominating"
🌪😮
Suddenly I'm in the mood for a Nutella chocolate shake.
All these active, overhead shots are a great way to see these floods from another perspective.
when i was young, we’d have tremendous rainstorms that sometimes would produce actual waterfalls on Mummy Mountain! Absolutely thrilling!! I SO MISS my free range, no other homes then, mountain …. it was my constant companion of intrigue and exploration..
I’ve been in Az 29 yrs, this last 2+ weeks has been most rain I’ve seen in 7 yrs….
Really what about 2014?
It’s awesome to see you out here covering the floods. It’s a great info for people to have. It still blow my mind how many people don’t get it.
You are doing a good service. Keep it up. Been a fan since the old days!
I've seen lots of these. I grew up on a hillside that had a wash running through the valley. Whenever it would rain a lot, we'd all ride our bikes down to see how much the wash had come up once it wasn't raining too hard. I've seen the water eroding at the banks of the wash several times and even lapping at the bottom of the bridge.
I've seen Arizonan rains, and it was pretty intense. Nothing compared to a couple of years ago in southern Utah, that was apocalyptic. Blinding rains, ice, high wind gusts. I was reduced to driving 20 mph on the 15, and the only reason I stayed on the road was because of the trucker right in front of me. I think some hikers bought the farm in the canyons nearby. Thank goodness for Beaver, UT.
This monsoon season is one of the most intense I have ever seen. Las Vegas got absolutely flooded just a few weeks ago. And Lake Mead actually rose several feet because of all the rain. And now The region is getting more rain because of Kay’s moisture and remnants.
Fun fact, almost every major rapid in the Grand Canyon is formed by debris fields coming out of the side creeks.
Definitely, today's weather patterns are showing us how the rock formations have formed over
millions of years. Interesting, everything has its story. All we can do is learn once again from all the experiences given us by nature.
absolutely gorgeous lands and epic raging rain water captures!!!!!
Well done Reed. I have been watching your videos for many years. This is my favorite video you’ve ever made. It is beautiful, unique and informative. The music was perfect. Just as I was starting to wish I could hear the wash as it went by, the music faded and we could hear the flood. I hope to see many more videos of natural events like this in the future. Truly amazing.
Those glasses are absolutely RIDICULOUS
I was stationed with a Capt Timmer in the 70's at the USAF Academy. he was our Radiologist. A great guy. We didn't learn Officer's first names usually. I haven't heard the name Timmer in years.
Those straight-line ways are amazing! It's like a flash flood on top of a flash flood.
I'm also in Northern Arizona and the thunder is intense and rain keeps coming down. What a great monsoon this year. Everything greened up for a little while. Then we go back to the desert we are. Can't wait for the little snow we get up here.
Gotta say these flash floods are enough for me to take a step back and watch in awe!!!
excellent drone footage. So well put together and your narration is up beat, informative, and interesting. thank you
I miss the monsoon season there, wish I was home to witness the beauty of it.
This is fascinating! It would be so cool to live in a place that has these regular flash floods in the washes. I'd be out there watching the surge of the water every day!
Reed, great video. I just love your work. If your by your self, please be careful.
Those tidbits are interesting but they disappear too fast. It would be good if you could leave them up for 3-4 more seconds.
Fabulous footage and information. Thank you. Makes me want to take a drive over to Arizona.
Great educational video Reed . I love these new videos from you and Brian touches make them very professional.
Educating, interesting and entertaining all at the same time. Thank you.
You have earned a 'sub'.🙂

Mother Nature is the best artist
Best viewed with sound off.
Wow, the effort you put into production and editing of your videos is 2nd to none, well done sir 👏 👏 👏
A fascinating subject and your drone work is superb! What a terrific example of technology giving us a new glimpse into the amazing things found in the world.
A força da natureza é. fantástica!
I always loved watching the arroyos in my part of the southwest. It amazing how much earth the water will move. I live in a river canyon at the base of a mesa with many channels coming down. Keeping our dirt roads to our homes cleared during monsoon season is fun.
Did you live in AZ?
New Mexico
Watching as a geologist. Thank you for sharing, Reed.
Love love love your videos. I could lose an entire day watching... thanks.
Ciao Reed: I lived outside Tuscon at Marana for several years in the 60's...had to commute every day into town for my bank job...summers I never knew if I'd make it back home either late, or not at all...could be sunny and hot in Tuscon, but storming in the hills...usually there was a police officer stopping traffic when the washes were active...saw a yellow Volks with a lady inside get swept away right in front of me...they found the car a few miles downstream...her body much farther down...the power of the water was amazing...loved watching your work on these events...very well done...but please be careful!
Striking nature!.I never thought this kind of flash flood existed. TYVM for sharing your (dangerous) experience
Just caught mud and thunder Very nice👍🏽
There is something about nature that keeps me in a state of awe. I'm used to tornadoes in Oklahoma, but Arizona has it's own magnificent weather phenomena. Awesome video footage, thank you.
Farout !! What an interesting way to spend time stepping out of the tornado box ! Just amazing how fast and powerful these can be
More flash flood chasing tomorrow
@@ReedTimmerWx 👍✌️
Very interesting, especially the speed at which a flood can build
Whoever edited this did a great job. A lot different from Reeds normal uploads. Love it
I agree, but the music should be used sparingly. Because this is about nature, one should hear the sound of the powerfull flows more frequently.
I’m sure he does it all himself actually…
Excellent footage. Great drone views.
Thanks 4 sharing the beauty of nature!
I live in Las Vegas now. Miracle Mile flash flood was so bad. It eroded the walls of the wash. A trailer park. Miracle Mile. Some fell into the wash. I always worry when I see rain clouds like this and being out in the desert. I always watch. Thank you for this!
I have seen these up close and personal out in the desert. The rain brings life, so it's always welcome. But you had better be out of the way when these come down the wash, and this is a small one. I have seen them with full size cottonwoods that were washed out by the roots. Amazing things to see.
I've heard that kind of low pitched thumping and grinding before... in an otherwise almost clear watered little river in the UK.
This was a river on Exmoor near a place called the Valley of the Rocks, a couple of miles from a river confluence called Watersmeet. I'd gone to the area for a holiday, though I can't recall if it was in May or September, it was that long ago. I think it was May, though : I was still working then and had just got in with my annual leave application before the food factory I worked at went into Crazy Summer Mode. Anyway, the river wasn't very muddy, so you could see right to the bottom, with it's rocky bed, and, at one spot, a sheep's horn, long detached from the skull, and wedged between boulders. The area was, and is, a hiker's paradise, and near to the Bed and Breakfast I was staying at was one of a number of small but very sturdy bridges. I remember standing in the middle of that bridge, arms on the rail and head resting on my hands, watching the rush of waters flowing by... and hearing the bumping and grinding of stones being tumbled along the river bed. I never saw anything moving, though: whilst the water was sediment free, there was a lot of white water in places. The sounds, though, gave me an appreciation of the amount of power even a small river like that can muster at times!
Regarding picking up speed,
It's because the water who flows on dry soil first lubricates it. Once lubricated the water who comes after it flows a *lot* faster.
Tsunamis flooding land behaves the same way.
If only Kevin Neelan was still alive to play Reed in SNL!
i love natural "disasters/catastrophes" this things put a smile on my face best part when you watch them live just keep your distance and respect nature, but that stil isnt 100% safe yet damn this is a real beauty
Your very very knowledgeable..Enjoy your videos..
Fascinating! I can't get enough of your videos on these flash floods. I was just in all those areas earlier this winter/spring (I live on the road) and am trying to learn how to avoid these phenomenon.
Mud slides! Years ago, when I was a small child, my father took the family camping for a long weekend. I remember playing in the sand and my father drove up on the motorcycle that he brought with us. He scooped me up and we raced back to the campsite which was already packed and ready to go, and so was the rest of the family. He said there was a flash flood warning and we had to leave right now. We were in the car driving and said look, there is the flash flood! It was behind us. I remember it being all mud. But hey, we all made it!
Prayers for water needed.
Ya we were out 4x4 and it hit us in seconds with 0 warnings on our phone. A few months ago in the chakawalla mountains. I have a few videos on my channel of the flood that was coming at us as we entered the wash. Then had to put run it and cross it a few more times to get out in a jeep compass trail-hawk 😅 Ended up losing my jeep engine in 3 ft of water but luckily had my boys with me to pull me out. Crazy stuff man. I'm in AZ also so I'm all too familiar with flash floods but that was crazy.... lol I turn around real quick when I saw the water lol. Keep the videos coming they are awesome.
Greetings from the BIG SKY of Montana. I lived in Arizona for 11 years. I'm glad it's done.
Those are sooo awesome. I lived in Scottsdale and when the washes flooded, they were raging rivers. Powerful.
8:33 The undulation is beautiful. Like a living thing.
Excellent and fascinating video, especially the drone footage which allows getting so close to the action!
These videos are incredible! 😳
My girlfriend and I got caught out and had to cross a flash flood in Fish and Owl Creek in Utah early spring. Water was ankle deep when we crossed initially, up to about 4’-5’ when we had to cross. In the flow for a minute or two maybe, hypothermia set in quick… Crazy stuff, great footage you got there, thanks for sharing!!!
Flash floods are normal in New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and southern California. This is some beautiful photography of flash floods. Flash floods have not been filmed in this way in the past.
Now I have Mastodon stuck in my head and it as amazing. Thank you. :)
Killer video man!
My boys are home schooled and I use alot of your videos for teaching moments!!!
This is why you do gully repair starting high in the landscapes is feasible, as well as check dams, bunds, etc. Organic material is swept away and moisture is lost while the surrounding land gets drier...
You
Mesmerising
My first couple of times through Arizona I got a big kick out of the fact that they actually give names to their dry mud-puddles. I guess when you have no rivers to name you have make do.
I love the beats of the music that you put in the video
Informative vid with some amazing drone footage!
Amazing video and commentary. This is my first time watching one of these flash flood videos. This is real reporting.. and worlds better than weather news you get on the MSM. Drone footage is amazing. Thanx and Good job 👍
Just one of mother nature's many wonders. This is what has shaped the west. Actually this is the type of nature that has shaped the entire land mass of earth.
I'm RVing in kingman AZ. These storms are crazy. Great video content!
8:17 Is a good example how topography can give the illusion of water running upstream.
Reed Timmer PHD ....
Spectacular photography.
Awesome video.
Bro! Excellent video! Love the production…the mapping, the drone footage, the music and most of all the explanations. Great teaching aide!
Great video!
Great channel Reed - Happy to subscribe
don,t you just love weather you should go to Japan and see the lahar the rocks are huge riding the slip of mud it just is Amazing.
I drove to Bullhead City, AZ during monsoon season and was caught in a microburst just outside of Barstow, CA. We ended up chasing the storm all across California and arriving in Bullhead after dark because of our lowered speed. Highway 95 was so flooded people were bogged down on the side of the road. I stayed toward the middle of the road where it wasn't ponding as much. It was a white knuckle drive for sure. We did make it safe and sound and just stayed put at my mother in law's for a week. We live in the desert also and even if the rain is just in the mountains and hills surrounding us we know not to go to the boonies of town and which roads to avoid. We're retired so there are no errands so important that we must go out. We try to stay home and off the roads.
More like BLOOD AND THUNDER!!! 😂
Like the song by Mastodon.
AMAZING JOB *****
At 8:11, the ooze looks like a living creature! So crazy 😬
Wow that flood looks so angry. Much love Reed Never Stop Covering Floods
Were I teaching Earth Science I would use this video. Fluid dynamics, material sorting, it’s all there. Cross sections of that entire valley floor could be taken telling of the influences of theses events. Great camera work. I know young folk dig it, but please turn your hat back around.
Wow that got big and fast quick
Hell yeah baby! LET'S GOOOO!!! I love this! Nice job man.
Implementing Permaculture thinking could mitigate such flash flooding, I believe.
If you ever get the chance to hike a slot canyon, Don do it during monsoon season, obviously, and you'll see why when you see the size of the boulders that get tossed about and wedged into these narrow spaces.
It is an amazing place to be able to explore, but always check in about the weather, preferably with a park ranger or someone who is aware of the region and the risks.
So interesting to watch..originally from north east and so fascinated by the weather in the east..used to noreasters..with power outages for days in frigid temperatures...have seen flooding but nothing like your videos..stay safe..
I'm a long time PA resident; when it rains here, the creeks and rivers rise a bit, no big deal. Things get a bit more interesting in the southwest.
Ya tell that to people in Yardley, Morrisville, and levitown bruh. Its obvious you forgot how much the Deleware River floods.... lol
Lol
Tell that to the Deleware river dude. Im pretty sure any resident in Yardley or Morrisville would ask if you had your eyes checked
I would know😂 Pennsbury 2010 lets GO
