As a student of the then Ringling School of Art and Design back in the mid 90's i lived off campus right up the road from Siesta key beach at the Harbor Towers. Back then Sarasota was still one of the nations best kept secrets. Known as americas retirement capital for generations, but at some point the old passed on and their properties lay in the hands of their kids, most of whom long left sleepy Ville in favor of the bigger cities and grander dreams. This left sarasota as a quiet gem. And slowly it began to re-emerge as some of its youth began to make it their homes and as outsiders saw its value. Still, back then we knew to keep it a secret for as long as possible. The quality of life like no other in the nation , its beaches parks and recreation the best in the nation by FAR! low crime level and just a piece of paradise. when people came, seldom did they consider leaving. people have been known to simply quit their jobs and have their goods shipped in as to never return to their origins. Sarasota is just that powerful. So also did the the neighboring cities see such a rise as well. Bradenton, st.pete clearwater tampa, venice. all started what was to be a boon in the mid 90's. onto what we see today. The beauty of the place also came with the people acting right towards one another, but unfortunately with what comes with luxury and wealth has also brought in snobbery and high brows. people of such that were not welcome in such a beautiful wealthy but also humble town. And thats the only down side i see today, far too many snobs from out of town coming in with new money giving the place a bad name. That old money wasnt always perfect, but it did appreciate the peace, and was welcome to many. Now we have the wannabe mc mansion buyers that are all about get off my property. People like that need to pack up and head back to california or the hamptons where they belong. still, reality hits as such places can never stay a secret forvere, sarasota is not bustling, the town is alive in every way, but thankfully still beautiful. as i hope it continues to have more of an influence over its new residents to remain what its been, instead of changing into what we see in other parts of the nation as we as the world. places that exclude segregate and snob themselves so far as to turn a good thing into a sour experience. keep that for miami.

Good thing I am not going to public beach when I am there in a couple weeks. Guess people forgot we are in the middle of a pandemic. Unreal.

The beaches seem packed, but also its the angle and the zoom that makes people look closer.
