Why should it be removed? I think the title means to say that no pectin is *added* in the process. Apples have naturally occuring pectin, so actually you don't need to add a jellying agent when cooking them to a jam.

For removing the wax and pesticides
Washing with water only will not remove the bacterias , pesticides and wax from it.
