I feel like I'm gonna faint...i need to stop taking advantage of my good health. She makes it look like it's nothing..I cannot imagine having to do this everyday. Bless you, Beautiful.
Good point, look after your health. I'm 60 and a couple of years ago had excruciating pains in the stomach, on and off for months but this morning I was vomiting too. I went to hospital and after a series of tests they found I had stomach ulcers that had grown over the gastric outlet, leading to a gastric outlet obstruction. The doctor said he "just"needed to insert a tube down my nose. Along came a female and male nurse to insert it. They started putting it down my nose and I started chocking and chocking, I thought I wasn't going to get my breath back! I constantly dry retched and my eyes watered and this girl in the video where she said her nose runs a little, not so with me, it ran a lot and the threading of the tube seemed to take ages. That was the first one. Because of the amount of ulcers, I had to have an endoscopy, 4 actually because each time they tried to open the gastric outlet, the tissue around the area would break so after 4 endoscopy's it was decided to remove 30% of my stomach. Fast forward 2 years, another gastric outlet obstruction, luckily they were able to suck the food out of my stomach during the endoscopy. Last week I had pains and vomiting, really bad vomiting so ended up in hospital again. Dr said they wanted to insert a NG tube, I said, NO, sorry, I could never go through that again but the problem I had was different, this time it's a bowel obstruction caused by scar tissue from the operation resulting in able to poop. I came home for 2 days because they thought it had corrected itself but I started vomiting again. So I have go back to hospital today to have a tube pushed down my nose and into my stomach, I am petrified. This girl makes it look so easy. One thing I'll be asking for is a glass of water like she had to help it down. So look after yourself, a lot of things can go wrong as you get older.
As someone with first an NG tube I want to tell you a story and thank you for saving my life. I am a Nurse and I nearly died from starvation because of Gastroparesis. I placed my first NG tube because of the “straight on” technique you show in this video. I never gagged or coughed with this method. I have since taught 10 nurses in the hosp who were stunned that I placed my own NG tube. I have also taught 5 doctors. I also show them your video and 2 of the hospitals I have been in have downloaded your video to use as a teaching tool. Thank you from this tubie to you for making my experience better.
Whoa this is amazing to hear! I am glad that I managed to make your experience a wee bit better with the tube and I hope you are feeling much better now! Great that what I have learnt is helping other medical staff too or at least showing them the patient experience 😁😁 xx
Nursing student here! Thanks so much for the video! I definitely want to make NG insertion as painless as possible for my patients. Pulling down above your upper lip is a good tip.
Thanks for the video. I'm a doctor who has just started a patient of mine on regular NG tube insertions at home and just showed my patient this video which helped a lot.
Watching this as a med student and I'm really impressed how well you're doing this (better than a lot of doctors i know). The secret behind pushing it straight backwards and not up is that although it looks like it from the outside - your nasal cavity doesn't actually go up but straight backwards! :)
what a brave and beautiful young woman. The times I had emergency insertion of ng tubes, it was horrid. A nightmare. I was far too compromised to do that myself (near death, actually) and after 40 years in Nursing, I learned a lot today. Especially about courage and creativity. thank you so much for this...bless you
Thank you so much for sharing your techniques and your very personal experience with inserting an NG tube! I’m a student nurse, and this anecdote will help relieve the anxiety of both the patient and the practitioner as we progress through this journey in healthcare together. Kudos to you.
It's people like you that make me smile. You're taking your situation and making a video to better others which is brilliant. I've had 2 transplants so there really isn't a video I can do on that.
Kristy, thanks for making it just another part of your day. I'm sitting in a hospital right now waiting for my first ng tube insertion for an operation. I'm much calmer after seeing you handle things without a worry.
Thank you for posting this. I'm 58 years old, and have had several major surgeries. I've also given birth twice. But the most terrifying thing, by far, was having a tube inserted in my nose down to my stomach. It got caught in my sinus cavity, then I kept gagging on it till we finally got it down, where it would branch off and curl up in a corner of my stomach, so they'd have to pull it partway out then go back in again. After three times of doing that, I threw up so much mucus that it scared the nurses. I was crying, throwing up, hysterical, and terrified. So they decided to remove the tube. Then my throat just locked up on the tube, with about 4 inches of it rolled up in my mouth. Getting it out was a nightmare. This was 8 years ago, and it still scares me. Seeing you do it so calmly *to yourself* while you explain what you're doing is absolutely stunning to me. I can't even imagine doing that. But after seeing it, I think that if I ever have to have it done again, I might be a bit less terrified about the process. I thank you for that. Blessings to you, and I hope you are able to continue to touch others' lives this way as well.
That's amazing! I'm in school to get my CNA certification and one day RN, and these are the things I'll get to work with, so I loved what you did here! There's so many residents and patients who could benefit from this technique 😊
I came across your video looking at Tube Feeding videos. I had an NG tube before I got my PEG when I was in the hospital for pneumonia. Nursing students put it in. It was one of the most excruciating experiences I have ever had. I had the NG tube for about 10 days. It was painful when I moved certain ways. I now have a PEG and I will be using it exclusively as I am now NPO due to aspiration pneumonia. I am doing well now. I have adapted well to my PEG. But seeing you demonstrate putting in you NG tube was juat amazing to me. You have it together very well. I salute you. I have had my PEG, permanently now juat over a year. Not many people even know I have it not that I mind, but I just don't want to be treated any differently. I have been astounded at how even doctors react to it. "I am sorry Mr. Miller!" I always say, "Please don't be. I am fine and doing well now" I fought getting a PEG kicking and screaming. Pneumonia was gonna kill me. I could eat or I could breathe. I choose to breath. I look and feel better than I have in years. I am sorry I am rambling. Your video is insprational to me. You are so charming and beautiful. I love your accent. I am from Birmingham, Alabama, USA. Most people sound differently here. Have a great day!
As a nursing student (almost graduated, yay!!!) this is super helpful to see this normalized for other patients, and for me to see how to make my patients most comfortable. Thank you!
Hi hi, nursing student here, too. Just wanted to comment on the metal wire in the tube and say that it’s also used for X-rays within hospitals as a way of detection on whether the NGT is in the stomach or lungs. Great video!
Echo 9970 Wow. I do not have a feeding tube (and I’m so thankful to not need one) and I had no idea that you could swallow it. Interesting story, and I’m so sorry that the doctor did it so wrong.
I used a straw with a cup of icy water as it almost numbed my throat & I could just keep on swallowing it down until like you we got to my measured length. Plus we used a syringe to insert a small amount of air into the ng tube as it meant we could hear it gurgle in the water in my belly (with a stethoscope) so I knew it was in the right place. Great tips!!
I started watching just to hear your accent, then stayed for the interest in the topic. I know your eyes can water without pain because I had NO pain when you were passing the NG tube in but my eyes watered. You're a strong woman. My best to you.
student nurse here (also from northern ireland) , came across your video while preparing for a class i have tomorrow about placing NG tubes, eager to try these hints and tips girl, thank you!
Again, can we please admire this absolutely GORGEOUS woman? Omg. She’s seriously beautiful. I love her jewelry, her makeup, her top. She’s so adorable & seems like a great friend.
When patients like you who bravely explain a process that most people will never endure and having to live with with an NG tube just don’t understand how truly blessed that they are. Having had several NG insertions myself, they are not at all fun. They are a necessary life-saving implement. Hang in there brave lady.
Wow, you're impressive. Thank you for your courage and humility. It's people like you that break through the facade of life and bring the truth to us all!
You are so brave, to do this to educate others how to propely insert an NGT. it takes practise and proper coaching to our patients before inserting the tube. thank you for your expertise.
Thanks for sharing your experience. First time I've seen someone put in their own NG tube... (with the many times you've had to, you make it look like a normal everyday part of life) loved that you're all Glammed up!
Thanks so much! I'm a nurse and always got taught to put it in on more of an angle, this is so helpful to hear it firsthand from someone that does it everyday. Thanks!
There is no real gag reflex when it goes through the nose ;), thats why we are also able to insert nasal airways in fully alert patients without loosing their airway.
Not physically, but mentally, if I think about it, it makes me gag, Just watching this was making me gag, but I have a way overly sensitive gag reflex, and it can be set off without physical stimulus easily. Props to this girl! I couldn't do it.
As a nursing student, I am so thankful for this video!!! It is so helpful to see this procedure done from your perspective and this helped me understand how to make my patients feel more comfortable!!
Well I tried... and IT WORKED! I just let the swallow mechanism pull down the tube rather than try and push it down as u swallowed. My ph was about 5... but I've been taking lansoprazole, but the volume of aspirate and colour was definitely markedly different to chest aspirate, a further indicator it was in the correct place. I think the only thing I find weird that i don't like is the cool sensation of flushing (which I prevent by using warm water) or the cool feeling when the pump pushes fluid through from the bag, but it's bearable as it's on only a few millilitres at a time. Thank you 😊
Yay! I'm so glad it worked for you Mirandamoose!! I hate the cold feeling when I'm flushing/feeding aswell but as you said it's over pretty quickly! Thanks for letting me know how you got on!! Xo
Girl.... you did this like a boss!!! Amazing!! No cough or anything. Thanks for the video. Especially since you are on the opposite side of the NG tube insertion.
I’ve never seen a video with so many positive comments! It’s great to see so much support. I fortunately don’t have to do this, this video just popped up in my suggestions but, to anyone who is going through any sort of medical procedure or living life with any sort of medical condition- I wish you the best of luck, the best of life, and as much positivity as possible ❤️
As a former, but unfortunately very experienced, anorexic who's had been inserted with a feeding tube over 300 times (then I stopped counting) I can say this technique is the very best. Have a slight upwards, 45-90° angle and SWALLOW several gulps during the process, and it's easy peasy. Eventually I even let the nursing students try and I guided them as they did it. I hated to get the nutrition in the tube, because I was obviously very eating disordered, but I was totally fine with the tube. I prefered it over eating orally, so I guess that tells you something about how difficult it is to eat for an anorexic. They pulled it out in between the feedings, so usually I had it 2-3 times per day and without it I would've died several times. So thank god these feeding tubes exist!! I have a hate-love for them, because they remind me of those horrible years, but I owe them my life. (I'm recovered since 10 years now.)
Thank you for this, I am a nurse and knowing to insert perpendicular will be practiced from here on. We never want to hurt our patients, so thank you for helping us!
Hi Kristy, thank you very much for taking the time to make this video. I am a nursing student and cannot tell you how much I appreciate this. Cheers to your health, and a bright future. Thank you!
I remember back home in Cuba when I was doing nursing they taught me to measure it on the spot. You place the start point from your lips to your ear lobe and then the following piece from your ear lobe to your epigastric region that is supposed to define the length from your nose to your stomach more or less . It worked with the patient I did it with. You are great. Thanks so much for your video. Very skillfull. 👌
Wow! I was in the hospital with a bowel obstruction and had my first NG tube experience, mine did not go as well as yours did. The ER nurses need to watch this. Mine hurt every time I swallowed and it was in for 4 days. No fun, but it worked and I didn’t have to have surgery. God Bless!
Hey guys! Please let me know if there are any other NG tube/ Crohn's related videos you would like to see :D Thanks for all your kind comments, I really appreciate it :)
Kristy J I am in nursing school right now as I type this and we all love your video. It was very informative but we all want to know why u have to insert the tube? I tried looking over your page but couldn't find an answer. My email is alyssa0343@gmail.com if u want to discuss privately. We would appreciate the education. Either way thank you for this video.
Hello ThIsIsMe! Thanks for your comment :) I use an NG tube for Crohn's disease in order to let my bowel rest and heal :) happy to answer any of your questions if you want any more info!xx
Hey Kristy, this is an excellent video. I'm an ICU nurse with 4+ years of experience and have to place various NG tubes on a pretty frequent basis. What you have shared here includes things that took me years to figure out how to make better for my patients. Thank you for taking the time to share and help others out there. The only other things I can suggest: one was already mentioned, about trying to tuck your chin down. The other is to possibly try using a straw when you drink the water. That's only if the cup is getting in your way. My patients are usually a little reclined and not having to insert the tube themselves, so hand positioning is certainly different. :) Oh, one other thing - if you pull the stylet (the wire) and can't get it back in, try putting the insertion end of the tube in some ice water while it has a bit of a bend in it. That will help it hold the bend to make it easier to drop down. It won't get the stylet back in for you, but can still help with placement. Great work and thank you again for sharing your knowledge and experience!
I used to have to have a NG tube as I got cancer when I was 10 and because of the chemo I lost so much weight I went down to 3 stone could see all my bones but the tubes are horrible but it saved my life, your so brave doing it yourself xx
So today i had to put an NG down for the first time as I shall be feeding long term. I can’t tell you how much this video helped me out, it went straight down, no problems what so ever, there was no trauma involved at all... as easy as plucking my eyebrows.. thank you for this video huge help!
Loved this video Kristy! I am an RN and I know how hard it can be to kind of talk someone into using a NG tube becuase they're scared. I wish I had time during a shift to show them a video like this!
Thanks Minna! I was hoping the video might be reassuring to those who may be getting an NG tube so I'm glad to hear that you thought it could have been useful for you to show patients!
Thank you for sharing this video!! I'm in nursing school and will use your tips when performing this procedure on patients to hopefully make it more comfortable for them :)
You are amazing. Im studying medicine and I when I learnt about how to put it I couldnt help thinking how uncomfortable it would be for the patient! Hearing from someone how it feels it is super helpful as I can understand better the patient 's experience and point of view! Sorry if there are any grammatical mistakes, my first language is not english! Anyways great video!
I have been a nurse for a while, 23 years. Here is some more info on NGs for feeding and suction. The best hints I got to put down NGs was by a seasoned nurse during my new grad days, and they served me well. With NGs, especially on patients who are unconscious or close to getting that way, extremes are your friend. That means that if possible, get the patient sitting at an absolute 90 degree angle, and get their chin to their chest. It looks severe but they go down so much easier. To measure you go from the tip of the nose to the earlobe, hold at the ear and then stretch it down to the bottom of the sternum (xyphoid process area). I mark that spot with a bit of tape. If they are not awake, aim towards the ear as you insert, then as you thread it down, keep holding the chin to the chest and watch for the swallow and move it along as soon as you see it. If your patient is awake, the positioning is the same, but at least you can guide them through it. I have them swallow ice water via straw when we are ready for swallowing because it is numbing as the tube moves along. Nurses, check your placements with air auscultation, but never administer a tube feeding without also sending the patient to xray to check placement. After that confirmation you can pull out the guidewire. An NG to LWS (low wall suction) does not typically need an xray check before starting suction, your auscultation should be fine. The LWS tubes usually have a metallic strip on the side in case placement does need to be radiographed, there is generally no guidewire. This patient has been taught to insert her own tube feeding NG. Totally appropriate for her to start her own feedings without an x ray check because 1) She knows historically if it feels like it is in the right place and she may also have been taught auscultation as an additional confirmation and B) She has assumed responsibility for her own procedure at this point, the legal liability would lie with the doc who taught her the procedure. If a nurse were inserting this, it would still be required to get an x ray confirmation before removing the guidewire and starting feedings. Happy tubing 😊
*Excellent video! I have a suggestion for placing tubes when you have a narrow nostril, or difficulty getting the tube into the nasopharynx - this has worked for me for many years, and it is painless, and **_always_** works!* *When trying to "Push Past" a narrow lumen, start "twirling" the tube between your palms. The idea it to get the tube to turn right and then left, very fast - kind of like "vibrating" the thing. It works like a charm!* *I will try your two innovations on my next pass opportunity (stretching the lips and using a 45 degree angle of attack) as well.* *GREAT VIDEO! Thanks!*
Me too cant swallow pills except very tiny even then im anxious... and anything that troubles my gag reflex bothers me bcus i dont like vomiting its like a fear
My mum had hers put in the other week and the Healthcare Assistant was so rough. She forced it in as hard as she could and didn’t care how much pain my mum was in. Little did she know she was hitting the back of my mums trachea and my mum physically couldn’t breathe. She was gagging and trying to fight the HCA off until eventually she pulled it out. Some people don’t deserve to work in healthcare - you have shown me how it should be done, when I’m in hospital with her next. Thank you x
Thank you for this, as a med student we have to put a lot of these in our patients and it's so great to gain insight on how to make it easier or more comfortable for everyone. So awesome! X :)
It's interesting to see how it's put in. I'm 13 I have germ cell cancer and when I first got it in it was the worst pain I had EVER felt. And then a few days later I threw up and it came out and they had to put it BACK. Any tips that you might know for how to keep it in when I throw up?? The chemo that I'm getting causes nausea and I DO NOT want it to fall out again haha
Thanks for your comment Mina, I really hope your chemo is going well. Sometimes I find just holding the tube down firmly with my fingers at my nostril helps to keep my tube in when throwing up- when I'm vomiting it tends to try to come out through my nose (even though it's taped down) rather than through my mouth. Good luck with everything xxx
Mina Bracero God bless ya hun. You are so young and strong! May God bless you and give you strength through everything you have to go through. Blessings!!! :) Philippians 4:13
I had a ng tube since last 2mnths bcz of post cricoid stricture carcinoma. It was very painfull. Doctors didnt do like this. Even they didn't gave any water in the process of insertion of ng tube. Ur very brave to put a ng tube urself.
i remember when i did a suicide attempt i took so many pills and drugs which were dangerous, and they had to insert a tube bigger than this one to clean the stomach and put a carbonic treatment to stop the effects of the drugs, it was the worst day of my life and the pain was soooo horrible, seeing you like that, it makes me sad but motivates me because you are so strong ♥️
Another nursing student here, thank you SO much. I want to be able to do this as comfortably as possible, and this helps so much. You are so beautiful 💜
That was FASCINATING I have SO much respect for you I don't use the tube and I'm not a nurse but I love learning about stuff like this I have neurological problems and have had one of these whilst in hospital hate brain surgery it's rough and feels really unnatural having a tube going through your nose so to have to live with one must be really frustrating anyway thank you I really appreciate the video best wishes from Wales 😊
Thank you so much for posting this video! I am preparing for nursing school by watching lots of procedural videos and this one popped up as a suggestion. So glad I watched and will be able to apply this knowledge and technique to my future patient care.
Kristy, I enjoyed so much your video! Thank you for first, making yourself so beautiful to make the video, then for your great advice, for sharing your different experiences and for sharing it with us. I hope you are doing a lot better!
You rock! I can NOT do an NG tube, without dry heaving for hours. 5 days ago I had my feeding tube placed again but they went straight through the most toughest and hardest scar tissue leaving me in constant pain. So now I have a Jejunal and gastric combo. I'm going in tomorrow to get an xray because it feels like I have a fractured rib after surgery. I just have to say how brave you are and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE LOVE your Necklace! XO
THIS HELPS A LOT, I'm in recovery from an eating disorder and I have to wear a tube 24/7 and it always is so uncomfortable trying to swallow it and it would burn in my nose but... I never tried putting it in and them swallowing my tube with water!!! Helped so so so much thank you!
TIPS as a medical student that may help someone: 1) Try to bend gently the tip ( like 10cm of it) of the NG to have a little curve so it will go down easier, put it perpendicular( as she showed it) and right next to the cartilage at the middle of your nose( it will help it to don't get stucked in any part). 2) Use a straw to drink the water so while you're sipping you can push the NG down your throat without feeling much of it, push it quickly, it won't happen anything, will be faster and less suffering for you.
you are very brave! I've been freaking out about NG tube and one day when I have to insert one on my patient. Thank you for showing me how to do it in an easier way.
Woah I’m so AMAZED at how you can insert it by yourself!! I’ve had a few NG tubes put in and out (just from vomiting them out my mouth) and I must say I could never put one in myself. I’ve moved on to NJ tubes for the moment so they go a bit further but WOW, you are pretty impressive x
Thank you so much!! I'm a second year student nurse and in first year I watched a lot and did some basic help. This video really gives me confidence to place NG tube. Is there anything you don't like or think I should avoid doing?
Hi Karen! Thanks for your comment! My advice would be to avoid forcing the tube down when there is discomfort as often pulling the tube back slightly then trying again can be better. For example, I have a sensitive part right at the back of my nose and often the tube will get 'stuck' there and I can force it past but it is painful. Often if I just pull the tube back a bit and try again the tube will go down absoluetely fine. Hope that helps a little!
As a soon-to-nurse, and someone who has had an NG tube, I am so damn amazed that you can not only handle an NG tube, but put it in yourself! I literally have PTSD from my tube, so I don’t know how you do it.
Hi Kristy, I work as a dietitian and I have seen NG tubes inserted on a patient before but I found this extremely fascinating watching you explain and demonstrate it yourself, thank you for sharing! If you don't mind me asking, what type of formula do you normally use?
Thank you for this! As a nursing student, all I've had the opportunity to see this in action is on a plastic manakin so to see if being demonstrated is amazing!
Okay I’ve come back. I came across this video a few years ago, this was my first NGtube video I looked at, to make my process easier and since then I’ve had 7 NG tubes and you have helped and this video was a huge help, thank you! I hopefully won’t anymore anytime soon
I am a nurse and I have to say, “WELL DONE!” I have never had to place one in myself, but having placed them in others, I have to say you made it look easy! Thank you for making this video.
I appreciate you and your video so much. So thoughtful of you to do this video. I am a nurse but have also required NGT myself (very short term) and it was SO PAINFUL! So every time I've had to insert it into a patient I have had to put my feelings aside, knowing how painful it is but still having to do this to the patient, I really had to think about how much the patient needed the NGT. Sending lots of love and positive thoughts your way.
You are amazingly brave. As a nurse whose gonna get back on the field soon, this scares me. Your video helped me overcome my fear. Thank you very much.
I have had 8 NG tubes inserted b4 each surgery and they gave a cup of cold water with a straw and said drink n swallow repeat and it was in place within seconds later.
Thank you so much for sharing this. This is a huge help for nursing school. You're so generous to share your time, your experience, and your tips! I will try all of these best practices.
I feel like I'm gonna faint...i need to stop taking advantage of my good health. She makes it look like it's nothing..I cannot imagine having to do this everyday. Bless you, Beautiful.

As a nursing student...I just want to thank you for this video.
Thanks Sae Kim! :)
Sae Kim or a curious premed
Same.. i get really scarred when I do it to my patient because I don't know how it feels like when inserted.
This video is very helpful
Same here. I am currently a nursing student and am learning how to insert NG tubes. Very helpful!
Same! 😘
Nursing student here! Thanks so much for the video! I definitely want to make NG insertion as painless as possible for my patients. Pulling down above your upper lip is a good tip.
Any other nursing students watching this? 😂🙋🏼♀️
Yes, me, reluctantly! But necessary, thanks
I am going to star nursing school in January and now I'm like...maybe not...
me
Me
Me!!
Thanks for the video. I'm a doctor who has just started a patient of mine on regular NG tube insertions at home and just showed my patient this video which helped a lot.
Thanks Callum! I'm glad the video helped! It isn't as scary as some people think once you get used to self- inserting!
Watching this as a med student and I'm really impressed how well you're doing this (better than a lot of doctors i know).
The secret behind pushing it straight backwards and not up is that although it looks like it from the outside - your nasal cavity doesn't actually go up but straight backwards! :)

Kristy, thanks for making it just another part of your day. I'm sitting in a hospital right now waiting for my first ng tube insertion for an operation. I'm much calmer after seeing you handle things without a worry.
I hope your operation goes well Brad! You will be used to the NG tube in no time! Good luck :)
My sick father is about to get one. He has dementia. I'm crying so much. This video gives me hope.
Brad F hi brad
KasagiaJ hey love. how is ur father doing now?
i hope everything is well. god bless xox
You managed to stay calm and looking flawless the whole time. This was very helpful, thank you.
THAT IS SO SMART, SWALLOWING THE FEEDING TUBE WITH THE WATER!!!! HOLY CRAP
Aww thanks! Xxx
Supreme Taco Queen they teach us in nursing school to have the patient drink water while swallowing the tube.
Supreme Taco Queen
When I put NG tubes down my patients I always have something for them to drink
Thanks for helping a nurse student who has an exam in an hour with ng tubes :)
Good luck!! X
Hi Chrissy Tee, thanks! Hope your class went well 😁
Again, can we please admire this absolutely GORGEOUS woman? Omg. She’s seriously beautiful. I love her jewelry, her makeup, her top. She’s so adorable & seems like a great friend.
My last ng tube was in the hospital and awful! I swear they used a garden hose! You rock! Great job!
Thanks Melinda! Crap that your experience was so bad with an NG tube 🙁
When patients like you who bravely explain a process that most people will never endure and having to live with with an NG tube just don’t understand how truly blessed that they are. Having had several NG insertions myself, they are not at all fun. They are a necessary life-saving implement. Hang in there brave lady.
Thanks for your kind comment! I appreciate it! Xx
Thank you 😁😁 xx
Thanks so much! I'm a nurse and always got taught to put it in on more of an angle, this is so helpful to hear it firsthand from someone that does it everyday. Thanks!
GIRL!! look at you!!!! 😍😍 that’s amazing. I’m so impressed. I was gagging for you.
Haha thanks Alisyn, it's really not that bad!! ☺☺
There is no real gag reflex when it goes through the nose ;), thats why we are also able to insert nasal airways in fully alert patients without loosing their airway.
You are amazing! Do you check it by using a stetoscope or just by confirming stomach flurid by aspirating?
Alisyn Lynn fhj
All the time my face was 😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨
Yeah I dont need this thing so I was pretty much scared. And for me it looks really uncomfortable and scary.
Same
I’ve never seen a video with so many positive comments! It’s great to see so much support. I fortunately don’t have to do this, this video just popped up in my suggestions but, to anyone who is going through any sort of medical procedure or living life with any sort of medical condition- I wish you the best of luck, the best of life, and as much positivity as possible ❤️
As a nursing student, I just want to thank you. This is better than anything I have learned in school.
You are an amazing person. I've been a nurse for 11 years, and never have seen anyone do this themselves. Thank you for this video.
Thank u Stacy! Xxx
wow, it is the first time that i saw someone put ng tube by himself, you are so brave, and the video is very useful, thank you
Thanks Ammar! :D
Wow. You are so calm, matter of fact and relaxed. You make the process seem so much easier. Thank you for posting this. I really appreciate it.
I am a nursing student from indonesia very proud of you 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
As a former, but unfortunately very experienced, anorexic who's had been inserted with a feeding tube over 300 times (then I stopped counting) I can say this technique is the very best.
Great job! A lot of nurses/healthcare workers insert it caudacephalically when it should be perpendicular just like you showed it.
Thank you Arnold R!
Kristy J Hi! I just came across your channel. How often do you have to use a NG tube?
Kristy J I am in nursing school right now as I type this and we all love your video. It was very informative but we all want to know why u have to insert the tube? I tried looking over your page but couldn't find an answer. My email is alyssa0343@gmail.com if u want to discuss privately. We would appreciate the education. Either way thank you for this video.
Hello ThIsIsMe! Thanks for your comment :) I use an NG tube for Crohn's disease in order to let my bowel rest and heal :) happy to answer any of your questions if you want any more info!xx
Kristy J omg how can you get that?
Impressive!!
I'm a nursing student and I am very impressed! I volunteered for an Ng tube insertion and It was extremely uncomfortable. Your a champ!💪
All I can say is, “MASSIVE respect.” Massive. Kudos, girl. I can’t even.
Thank you! ❤❤
So today i had to put an NG down for the first time as I shall be feeding long term.
I can’t tell you how much this video helped me out, it went straight down, no problems what so ever, there was no trauma involved at all... as easy as plucking my eyebrows.. thank you for this video huge help!
This comment made me so happy! That's great! So glad it went well and good luck with your feeding! Xx
As a clinic and home care nurse, I must say you are one brave woman!
Thank you for this detailed info! It will help others whether they are inserting themselves or want more info before their nurse or doctor does it 💗💗💗
*Excellent video! I have a suggestion for placing tubes when you have a narrow nostril, or difficulty getting the tube into the nasopharynx - this has worked for me for many years, and it is painless, and **_always_** works!*
*When trying to "Push Past" a narrow lumen, start "twirling" the tube between your palms. The idea it to get the tube to turn right and then left, very fast - kind of like "vibrating" the thing. It works like a charm!*
*I will try your two innovations on my next pass opportunity (stretching the lips and using a 45 degree angle of attack) as well.*
*GREAT VIDEO! Thanks!*
OMG that would be sooo scary for me, i cant even swallow a pill tf
snowy blossoms exactly I can’t swallow a pill either good to know I’m not alone 🤧😞😂
Everytime when I swallow a pill my stomach rejects it so I basically throw everything up
Me too 😵
OMG same i cant swallow a pill either
So awesome! X :)
I'm in a nurse refresher course and this video has helped me immensely. Thank you Kristy, you are a beautiful teacher.
Thank you Liz!! Xz
Mina Bracero keep.strong💪
Mina Bracero lol I remember when I threw up I held it down and the other side came out my mouth so I just had to take it out
Mina Bracero God bless ya hun. You are so young and strong! May God bless you and give you strength through everything you have to go through. Blessings!!! :)
Philippians 4:13
How are you doing Mina Bracero? Praying for you. ❤️
I had a ng tube since last 2mnths bcz of post cricoid stricture carcinoma. It was very painfull. Doctors didnt do like this. Even they didn't gave any water in the process of insertion of ng tube. Ur very brave to put a ng tube urself.
Better than nursing clinical demonstrations. Thank you! And my future patients thank you, too.
i remember when i did a suicide attempt i took so many pills and drugs which were dangerous, and they had to insert a tube bigger than this one to clean the stomach and put a carbonic treatment to stop the effects of the drugs, it was the worst day of my life and the pain was soooo horrible, seeing you like that, it makes me sad but motivates me because you are so strong ♥️
I would trust you to put mine because you know the feeling and you know how to do it. You are a caring person. Thank you for sharing, new subscriber👏
Thank you Kristy for showing me the easier way and less uncomfortable for my patients in the future!
Thanks! ❤❤
Omg your amazing. I had this when I was in the hospital and it was the worst paint I had ever felt and I can’t believe you could do this
Another nursing student here, thank you SO much.
Thanks Daisy!! The tube is crappy at the start but I am totally used to it now and it is no bother! I soo appreciate your lovely comment :) xxx
your very welcome lovely btw i just read my message back bloody auto correct i meant "having" not "hate" lol sorry =D
Made me cry. You are amazing. Thank you for making other's lifes easier.
Thank you Antonio ☺☺ xx
Wow so interesting, it's the first time I see someone inserting an ng tube!
Thanks Avital Bee! I'm glad you found it interesting :)
Came across this today... as an RN student I found this very helpful and i am so grateful I ran across this!
Thank you so much for posting this video! I am preparing for nursing school by watching lots of procedural videos and this one popped up as a suggestion. So glad I watched and will be able to apply this knowledge and technique to my future patient care.
Thanks Melodi! That's great, hope your NG insertions go well! Xx
Off topic from the NG tube --> Your eyebrows!!!! Wow! Nice!
wow, thank you so much! I had not inserted a tube for many years, and will now use your tips on my patients...thank you for your generous help!
Kristy, I enjoyed so much your video! Thank you for first, making yourself so beautiful to make the video, then for your great advice, for sharing your different experiences and for sharing it with us. I hope you are doing a lot better!
Thank you for your kind comments Fernando! :D
XO
I have crohns, I loathe NG tubes ,I drink water when mine was inserted ,you are amazing ,I've had nurses do mine !!!!!!
I am a new MD and really appreciate your video. Thank you for taking the time to do this, Kristy!
this is the first time ive seen someone insert it in themselves. you make it look so easy! thank you for the demonstration!
Thanks Heather, it definetely is pretty easy after some practice!!xx
THIS HELPS A LOT, I'm in recovery from an eating disorder and I have to wear a tube 24/7 and it always is so uncomfortable trying to swallow it and it would burn in my nose but... I never tried putting it in and them swallowing my tube with water!!! Helped so so so much thank you!
TIPS as a medical student that may help someone:
1) Try to bend gently the tip ( like 10cm of it) of the NG to have a little curve so it will go down easier, put it perpendicular( as she showed it) and right next to the cartilage at the middle of your nose( it will help it to don't get stucked in any part).
Thank you Mengyuan!
i salute you mam,, thank you for this video.
Thanks for the kind comment Jezar Aduna!
As Registered Nurse for 25 years, I want to say what an awesome job and I commend you for your optimism and courage.
You're an inspiration. Courageous, too. Thank you for keeping it real.
Thank you snap678!!
Thanks John, I have been using the 'Vital' feed ☺
Thank you for this! As a nursing student, all I've had the opportunity to see this in action is on a plastic manakin so to see if being demonstrated is amazing!
This makes life easier for every who is fighting right now 😊
Okay I’ve come back. I came across this video a few years ago, this was my first NGtube video I looked at, to make my process easier and since then I’ve had 7 NG tubes and you have helped and this video was a huge help, thank you! I hopefully won’t anymore anytime soon
Thank you Shannon! It is great to hear that my video helped! Good luck with the tube xxx
You are so brave .
Thank you Sheri! X
Sheri Dildar true
@@KristyJ my throat feels weird even tho I dont have these things
You are amazingly brave. As a nurse whose gonna get back on the field soon, this scares me. Your video helped me overcome my fear. Thank you very much.
I have had 8 NG tubes inserted b4 each surgery and they gave a cup of cold water with a straw and said drink n swallow repeat and it was in place within seconds later.
Catherine Harris did it hurt?
Thank you so much for sharing this. This is a huge help for nursing school. You're so generous to share your time, your experience, and your tips! I will try all of these best practices.
Thank you this has helped. My girl just got one last week
Wow, so impressive! I'm a nursing student, I don't see myself doing it for a patient yet, and you did it to yourself. All my respct to you❤
