She’s skilled at women’s gymnastics discipline, he’s skilled at men’s gymnastics discipline. With their powers combined they can…probably put on a stellar dance number honestly
The results make sense because women's gymnastics focuses more on leg and back flexibility (beam leaps/choreography), whereas men's gymnastics focuses much more on strength and shoulder flexibility (rings/parallel bars). So I always expect a female gymnast to have more leg and back flexibility, and the male gymnast to have more upper body strength and shoulder flexibility. The acrobatic elements can go either way. Traditional thinking suggests that men have an advantage here because the sport requires more difficult elements to train on vault and floor. However, Simone Biles has been systematically destroying this theory for years. People like Jake Jarman and Kenzo Shirai are anomalies. So I agree that this is likely to end in a tie and I'm glad it did. Very entertaining.
I love this competition, really highlights the difference between male and female gymnastics disciplines. Also - really really good sporting when she was trying the parallel bar tricks! Super responsive and reassuring spots that didn’t take away from her strength display! I’m honestly impressed with the both of your efforts at the other side of the sport, well done!
That was so much fun to watch! It’s amazing to see some of the skills that are used in gymnastics. You really challenge yourselves and push your physical limits in very entertaining ways. 😅
Just watching Ian pop his shoulders out of socket makes my arms hurt just watching there is no way I would ever even try that and walking on your feet bent like that hurts thinking about it too great job Sophialand on that one for real.
They're just friends?? Talking like friends?? Is this because its a guy and a girl? Because i genuinely couldn't see how one could view their interactions as romantic
i watch your shorts all the time, and you and all your friends have such amazing and shining personalities. this is the first long video i’ve watched of yours and i was genuinely so surprised how much more your personality shines (even though that probably sounds really stupid)
I really appreciate you two for wearing socks in this video, most of the time when you see online content about Gymnastics, people are often practicing bare feet thinking they are the only ones practicing there.
“Sleep in a middle split.” This guy yin yogas! 🤣 (And on a related note, I just discovered last night that weighted blankets are GREAT tools for training flexibility moves…)
What’s stunning is how much of gymnastics relies on the constant adaptability and growth of the athlete… I mean, granted, I’m not super athletic, so maybe I’m just underestimating other sports, but it seems like for the most part, other sports go along the lines of: get strong, learn to do your job, stay strong, get as good as you can at a job that stays roughly the same throughout your career. Whereas gymnastics, it’s like “okay… I’m strong, and I’m good at this set of skills… now let’s spend my entire career constantly learning more and more things to do the job… and only really stop (or just slow down) if/when my body can’t take it any more” 😂 👏 the endurance through it all, and the crazy stuff you guys can continuously learn to do with your bodies is mind blowing to me. Great video! ❤
Have you ever noticed that most gymnasts that have their splits often had their splits or were close the very first time they tried? Thats my experience when I coached gymnastics.
I am on a color guard team (kinda a mix of dance and gymnastics and equipment stuff) and we do the exact same thing of going through a video frame by frame to count rotations lol
Colorguard girlie here too!! People definitely don't know how physically demanding and how many elements go into it. Like you said, it's dance, acrobatics, equipment, and a little bit military (at least our guard trained very military, our band director was even in the army, and directed the army band 😂) It worked though, we won best overall guard in the state several times!! Loved getting those patches on my letterman lol
It's videos like these that made me subscribe. 😂 You guys are so much fun to watch, always entertaining, and hilarious! I couldn't stop cracking up during this video!
Ohmigawsh @sophialandgymnastics - I only just realized you are S Campana of the Italian National team!!! Prima d'ora ti ho sentito parlare solo in Italiano!! I forgot you were American lol 🤯🤩🥰 (LOVED seeing the Sophia Campana Cup btw, very impressed!) 💖
I find it weird how women's and men's gymnastics aren't just women and men doing gymnastics, they're basically different sports. And women's gymnastics conceptually interests me far more, and though I don't do gymnastics anyway I wonder how annoying it would be if I wanted to the _women's_ kind of gymnastics but was made to do the _men's_ kind, or the other way around.
I did this back roll on the bar at the beginning of the film every day on the playground when I was a child, from the age of 8 to, you could say, 13 years old.
the strenght chellenges were mainly skills only used in male gymnastics xD For what event do female gymnasts need an iron cross or planches (or just their triceps in general) xD
And… women have wider hips which leads to greater flexibility. How is a man going to compete with a women on something like an over-split and hope to beat them, or even equal them?
I hope you all enjoy, this was so fun to make! Comment who you think won this challenge 💪🏼
This is a funny story but when i was younger i did the same thing! I slept in a middle split and i was down in the morning 😂

@@PIGGYLOVER-mn1wg don't fix it, just enjoy the fun comment in silence you wretch
Feels like gymnastics is all about pain
Pretty much sums it up
Yeah😭 it basically is I can confirm as a gymnast
No its fun 😂😂😂
Your exactly right 😭
Yes😅😢
Good sportsmanship is the winner here. Both were cheering each other on. And these two have really good chemistry.
I think you tied. Sophia won flexibility, Ian won strength, and you all tied on the twists so that's a tie overall. Great job and fun video!

Impossible to declare a winner in that competition.... both very talented flexible and strong as well as being beautiful and gracious!

Nah, I ain’t reading all that😂😂
@@portiataylor9719then don't 😑
Their chemistry was so good!!
The way he was holding her on the Parrell bars 🫣
I was just about to comment this LMAO
@@Hayden.hay1 I want someone to hold me like that
20yrs dance teacher here. The wall split is massively less pressure on joints that only bend one way (your knees.)
makes sense because gravity is pulling parallel to your legs instead of perpendicular on the floor
me with my 2 years of gymnastics i did 6 years ago thinking im the shit tho
And it hurts more because your standing foot remains firmly flexed
"I'm smiling, but yes it hurts"
Definitely brings a whole new meaning to "no pain, no gain!" Kudos to the three of you!

Me too!
Hi Ian I am in level three please wish me luck at my mini Olympics I am doing all 4 events this is my 2nd year doing gymnastics
@@TeresaSterling-bc1cqHow did it go? I hope great?
The toes on point made me subscribe. That’s a swimmer stretch as well, and it's so brutal.
As long as you’re having fun you’re both winners.
Amazing Ian! You are so talented and you are an absolute beast! Love these long form videos and challenges!
Thanks a ton!

that's just skinning the cat, its not very hard
2:51 THAT FLIP THO 😮
6:40 she was definitely looking and admiring.
At the end around the 15:00 mark, does anyone else notice the girl in the back bouncing on a snowboard?
Maybe she’s doing snowboard training
I used to do gymnastics for 4 years but then i stopped cuz my body was just hurting
You left him shocked and speechless at the end 😂
I like how he’s cheering her on at the end.
the flirtatious energy is unmatched
Ian has a girlfriend

this is the first real collab and it was awesome i loved this video.

Sleeping in a middle split?! That’s insane!!
I DID NOT KNOW UNTIL TODAY IAN MADE FULL LENGTH VIDEOS OR ID BE A FREQUENT VIEWER SO I WILL BE WATCHING NOW
Yea, same!! Time to binge
I love her laugh!
I think Ian won. You two have a nice friendship.

You need to wear grippy socks.
Ian big brothered the support on rings. I'm sure he can hold that pike support for 30+ seconds
Forgot to mention about the ring position difference between them as well. Ian ftw!
My shoulders hurt now.
GUNTHY! Go all out for the 2024 Olympics you can do it and you want to. Just get in the gym upgrade your routines focus you can do it

I’ll be impressed if male gymnast wears the same attire as female gymnast during performance.

2:33 how to dislocate both of your arms in the same time 😂😂😂😂
The pained noises in the middle split is so real
As a gymnast who trains 6 hours a week I can approve that gymnastics is one hell of a sport!
Gymnasts smile through the pain
Enjoyed the video!! You both are so talented!! ❤️
Ian wins cause he was twisting forwards, imo. Also he tried everything with full commitment.
He looks like he has a crush on her ❤
No gymnast is an island, all are equal in competition.

You should Anna mcnulty to a flexibility challenge her wall splits are to the ground
I couldnt even do that in my dreams! 🤣🤣🤣
Stone-cold tie in my opinion.

Off topic but applause for the editing, had me cracking up 😅🤣😂

It’s great to see a girl vs boy challenge that’s not just a girl dominating with flexibility *cough Jack Payne cough*
Jack Payne is kinda annoying

The popping of his shoulders was audible 🥴
Everybody wins.
6:59 try doing this but your whole foot is flat in the ground I believe that's more harder than doing this and doing a tip toe

He won 🏆.
Visually Sophia twisted faster with less height. But not sure.
Ok i actually started following Sophia from her videos with an Italian youtuber i follow. This is amazing 🤣🤣

In shoulder stretch my arms goes flat elbow to wrist lol
Skin the cats were really normal when I was a gymnast, but we didn’t use the reverse grip. We did go through and back though
Okay. Be real here, Ian has to be double jointed in his shoulders. I was seriously afraid Sophia was going to dislocate her shoulders…
I when to one of the performance in Florida Saturday the 12th it was so much fun and I had a great time. Thank you.

He's a gymnast, he should be able to perform a split.
During planche she reminded me of Khoi young for the “like a man” then the buff one for Asher. No offense to them but that was funny.
