Every time I’m about to get on the radios, I know what I’m about to say and then I push the button and I’m like uhhhhhh 😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫
😂 everyone does this in the beginning! Practice out loud in the car by yourself and you will notice a huge difference! I’m hoping to make a video eventually showing how to practice
@@FreePilotTraining You're right. I need to listen to liveatc and pretend i'm talking to them. I love your content btw! It's helped me a lot keep them coming!
@@AngelicaChu it works! Good luck out there!
Same, I hit the mic and my mouth made no sounds 😂
@@christophergaus3996 😂
First of all, I love your videos. But, I do have a suggestion.
I know you're trying to make the simulated comms sound like low-fidelity radio transmissions, but your filtering is way too aggressive and it over-emphasizes the highs. Please consider changing your cutoffs.
I suggest starting with a passband of 300 through 3000 Hz, which is telephone quality. You can then narrow it a little at a time until it sounds awful but is still readable. Mostly, get rid of the lows, keep the mid frequencies, and keep the highs in check. Experiment!
Thank you John! I really appreciate that. I’m going to try some different software. I adjusted the sound quite a bit in this video, and I agree, it could’ve been better. I do want the quality to be lower because we need to train ourselves to understand these transmissions with poor quality audio. It’s all poor quality in the air 😂, but thanks again for the tip, I’ll experiment a little more with some different stuff
The simulated transmissions are very quiet, probably due to excessive filtering. :(
@@DNHarris thanks for the feedback
@@FreePilotTraining I really have been enjoying the content.
@@DNHarris thank you!
It’s 7000 for VFR in Europe
I didn’t know that. Thanks!
Excellent video, Very informative,!
Thanks!
Thanks. I'm going to have to watch it a few more times. I took some notes.😊
You’re welcome!
Great content. I have my first BFR this month, your videos certainly would've helped me while I was training for my PPL but glad I found them sooner rather than later.
Thank you! I’m hoping to start adding IFR stuff once I’m finished with the PPL course, but in the meantime, it’s good to get refreshed. Love your motorcycles btw…
I cannot begin to tell you how helpful this is. ATC intimidated me from day one. First, they are not clear and second they often talk way too fast. I know they are busy juggling lots of planes, but man are they hard to hear. I bought noise cancelling headphones and that helped a LOT. Still, I've had to really train myself to listen super carefully to understand them. This video is so very helpful. Knowing what to expect ATC to say and what to say back helps me stay ahead of them and, ahead of the airplane. Again, thanks for all your videos, especially this one. Oh yes, I am working on IFR, so if you ever do IFR videos you can bet your bottom dollar I'll watch every one multiple times.
Nice! So glad these are helping! Thanks for watching! See you in the next one!
Very helpful!!
Thank you!
Great videos, thank you!! The online curriculum my flight school requires is awful and misses SO much. I'm making more progress since realizing this & seeking out additional learning resources. 😊
You’re welcome! Eventually, I’m hoping to have a complete course, and maybe start adding instrument stuff!
Nice
Thanks!
I think one of my first trips after passing my check ride is to show up on your ramp, thank you for all you do, and teach you how to spell “Wichita”.
😂 you’re welcome! Autocorrect does not like Wichita for some reason
I really appreciate the content, I haven't started ground school or flight training yet but I let it consume my entire life. Did a couple lessons over a year ago in a c-172 Skyhawk( very expensive to fly at my local airport 250$ for training hour) reality hit. So happy to say that in just a month, I'll be training in a piper colt pa-22 108 with a great instructor 140$ an hour and in the big city of Columbus, Ohio, works so well for my budget of flying 2 hours once a week. I am beyond excited so watching everything I can and reading handbooks you're great at getting the info out in a professional manner and easy to understand for beginners like me. Fact: my great grandma's maiden name is Wright she was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio and somehow down the grapevine I am direct relation to the wright bros, kind of crazy to believe lol.
Too awesome! I’ve been to that museum… I should have gone to it before I went to the AF museum because It’s hard to beat that one! I’m so glad you’re achieving your dreams. See you in the next video!
Glad you’re getting ready to get into your flight training! What flight school are you using in Columbus? I was looking for schools down there and was trying to get some recommendations.
@@ericdye5555 fly twin flight school! I would have liked to post their website, UA-cam won’t allow me to,. Cody is a great instructor and operates out of KTZR! Thank you and good luck with your flying journey.
Could you do a video on short field landings and how to consistently touch down on you point?
Yes! I’d like to make that very soon!
I’ve only had a headset on as a kid with my uncle, his plane, talking on it, there was an echo, or I could hear myself, it was weird to talk, and you have to speak up to get the mic to pick up sound activation.
Your uncle probably had the intercom on in the plane
At 13:03 the wording on the screen states that the other traffic is Southbound, but the aircraft is incorrectly drawn showing that it is Westboound. YOUR aircraft is the one that is Southbound.
Sorry for the confusion. The word East at the top means you’re on an east bound heading, it’s not showing you where east is. I could have drawn that a little better
thank you for the lesson.it is great.. but the sound of mock ATC and radio is waaaay too distorted and not loud enough.
I really appreciate the feedback. It’s good to know how I can improve my videos. I think you’ll find that my sound has improved quite a bit in the last few videos
I have watched all your videos and am now on my second round of them, getting ready to start flight school in the spring. My question is what if your are in a vintage Airplane that does not have a transponder? can you still fly into an airport like this example?
Awesome! Thanks for watching! Yes, you could fly into class d without a transponder. You may be told to squawk XXXX. In that case, you’d just say unable
@12:42 it is ground track not your heading. When you're crabing for wind. Still great video
The controller's voice sounds like a movie villain.
Lol
Quick question. In your example the controller did not specifically say cleared into the Charlie. Is that wording not required for class c as long as have a squeak and radio contact. I fly under the Nashville shelf all the time from a little class d. KMQY
Great question. You are not required to be “cleared into the class C” you must “establish two way radio communication” which means that as long as Approach responds to you with your full call sign, you can enter. Even if they say “N1234P, standby,” you can still enter because you have established radio communications. One exception would be if they say “N1234P, remain clear of the class C.” You might enjoy this video where I go into a lot more detail. ua-cam.com/video/M-2VWNQ2Ukk/v-deo.html
Told my dog she was a good girl and we were approved for emergency approach, those tower boys see everything.....
😆
I was afraid of ATC but after watching this I feel more confidant and as usual you can get a grumpy controller don't take it personaly I guess.
Awesome. Lol
What is 0911 ?
In your first transmission talking to ATC you mentioned you were flying with "t" or "tango". What is the T in this instance?
That is the ATIS (weather) code. You listen to the weather before you fly into an airfield, and there is a letter associated with the latest weather broadcast
Had the sequencing the other day I didnt hear my clearance to land (November 5298 Delta) I wanted to call them again but my CFI said no
I don’t like that. It’s never wrong to double check to make sure your cleared to land.
whats the "inbound with T" callout mean?
Explained in this video: ua-cam.com/video/0JRVTlLJ7hk/v-deo.htmlsi=sQK2Z-DPZDyrGT7u
Just checked my edition of the aim and it says that fishtailing such as moving the ruder of your plane indicates a negative or no, whereas like you said dipping the nose of the plane several times means yes, and rolling the wings left to right multiple times indicates message received and understood making a complete right hand circle indicates message received and not understood.
Interesting! Where is that at? I don’t remember seeing that. The section on light gun signals is where I got that part of the video (with a little flare of course) that’s pretty cool
As far as other aircraft my flight instructor told me "see and aviod"
Definitely my first choice
@5:58 Real Question on test for a communication lost. Rock your wings was an option and it was the WRONG answer. The correct answer is watch for traffic and direction of traffic in pattern, enter pattern and look to light signal from tower.
Yeah, rocking the wings let’s them know that you heard them or understood the clearance. It’s not the “best” answer even though it’s a “right answer” in a sense
@@FreePilotTraining lost battery, due an Alternator button not on, found out later, but we lost comms in & out. My instructor did rocked our wings. Couldn’t even squawk 7600. Had question in the study the next day. If Tower "requests" you to rock your wings. If it's true lose comms, can't hear tower. Really understood magnetos that day
@@FreePilotTraining lot of different scenarios. #allavailableinfo
@@FreePilotTraining FARAIM? hey you've really been helpful with your videos and I'm about to take my prep ride and by August my check ride. I just got the FARAIM and it's like a foreign book to me how important is that for Private Pilot?
Flashing Red: ua-cam.com/video/3YmnohLipFo/v-deo.html
Solid Red, changing to Green: ua-cam.com/video/3YmnohLipFo/v-deo.html?t=54
The spelling is Wichita!
Dang it! I know it is, my fingers outrun my brain and this software doesn’t have spell check. Sorry lol
What is wrong my ears? Why is it your "ATC voice" (only) sounds like inordinate screech?
Yeah, it's bad.
Thanks for the feedback. I’ll try another method to mimic ATC next time
@@FreePilotTraining I'm interested, but very hard to listen and understand the atc part.
I tried to make it as understandable as possible while still giving it a radio sound, and while IT IS a little difficult to understand, this is EXACTLY how it’s going to be in the plane too. Those guys are super hard to understand a lot of the time and I’ve talked with many who didn’t even have English as their first language.
@@FreePilotTraining I get that. But also, while learning, would be easier to actually understand what is being said while learning.
Thank you for making these videos but the simulated radio was too harsh on my ears. Made me want stop watching but I watched it through to the end. Lighten it up I haven't heard anything that harsh yet on the live atc streams that I listen to.
I really appreciate the feedback. I will continue to work on improving the sound on these.
NEVER wait to ask for assistance! Most pilots wait too long. That’s what controllers are there for, civil service employees there to serve the flying public. The sooner you ask for help the easier it is to provide assistance.
You’re 100% right
Sound is awful!
Sorry about that
