I’ve had the 8 plus for almost 2 years now I wasn’t looking to upgrade or anything since I was honestly content with what it offered But my dad wanted my iPhone 8 plus so I decided to upgrade to the XR Honestly you can’t really tell the difference between the Displays side by side(for those who are concern wit the display quality) performance is almost identical but you can definitely tell that the XR is smoother.. Battery life is the most obvious difference that you can clearly tell even not having the phone side by side... camera is definitely improved on the XR but then again I wouldn’t mind having the Dual Camera.. Not having 3d Touch was not a problem at all for me since I never even used it on my 8 plus but it might be a useful feature for OTHERS Now the biggest step for me was between the Touch ID and Face ID I love my touch ID on the 8 plus cuz I can literally wake and unlock my phone with one single touch but My biggest problem with it is that when my fingers gets a lil sweaty or wet from work...its just a struggle trying to unlock it Where on the face ID is rather much more better since you just gotta look at it Now for pricing...I’m connected with sprint so idk if this applies for everybody but for me buying the XR seems to be cheaper than what I paid for the 8 plus KEEP IN MIND THAT I HAVE BOTH PHONES IN HAND RN I suggest that if you’re coming from any phones other than 8 plus Its definitely better to get the XR in a heart beat But if you do already have the 8 plus an upgrade isn’t technically necessary I Personally chose the XR cuz of the battery life and Face ID which I find it very useful and its the cheapest alternative for my 8 plus
Hi there. I am a iphone 6s plus for 4 years now. I decided to upgrade. But I can’t decide between iphone 8 plus and xr. 8 plus is really like my old phone, physically. And xr is kinda different in shape and model but i just found the two of them to be quite similar. And as for the price, 8 plus was a bit cheaper than the other. So i just thought that upgrading to 8 plus for more storage and better camera would be nice and went for that. But right now i feel as if i might have made the wrong choice. I don’t know, what would you think?
8+ Product Red owner here, absolutely love it! Have had it 8 months, battery life is fantastic, super smooth and fast, really, no need to upgrade this time round. And I still love 3D touch and touch ID.
i got it for just a few months and i think i have a defective unit. there was a flake at the bottom and i just merely rubbed it and a whole chuck of paint came off. :( . Be very gentle on your unit
How much % do you have on your battery health maximum capacity? I have 8 plus for 5 months and now it is 96% its strange becouse same time i changed battery for my ip 6s and its still 100%. Maybe something wrong with my 8+?

Sure if you currently own an iPhone 8 plus there would be no point in "upgrading" to the Xr. But say if you were coming from an iPhone 6, to me, the Xr is far more appealing.
Thomas Anchell Apple is going to be adding more features to force touch, so if you get the XR, you may have to wait but you will still get 3D Touch functionality back.

cristianischill you have not seen the xr screen. If you had you know it looks much more accurate and brighter then the 8+ (I have them both). And you don’t see any pixellation so stop being a sheep listening to any reviewer that bashes apple

Kang Kado I came from an 8 plus too, I couldn’t be happier. The gesture based navigation and taller display will ALWAYS be better than the cramped aspect ratio and inconsistent Touch ID of the home buttoned iPhones. It’s a bigger display with better battery life, as well as a newer processor. There’s nothing the 8 plus has over the xr besides screen resolution, but the same can be said about the iPhone 6 Plus . To each their own I guess
I bought my iPhone 8 Plus since Oct 2017. It’s a very good device and it was overshadowed by the iPhone X which came out 3 months or so after. Of course, people wanted the latest and newest phone. I don’t care about the facial recognition. I’ll stick with my 8 plus until the 5G comes out and hopefully Apple can incorporate 3D Touch on the main screen.😂

Cast i want only red iPhone so I’ll wait for April, which will give me enough time with the XR, my 5s was just dying, the battery would waste really quick without me even having to use it, but honestly upgrading to the XR was great, it’s a mega upgrade, and when people say they don’t even realize the notch, it’s true, and I easily got used to the XR without the home button, which I actually love, and it’s great for gaming with PUBG, which me and my friends usually play, so I also wanted a phone with great game play, I feel XR for me was great, I’ve been using it for a good week and I’m really loving it
What a timely video. I was on the fence about which phone to purchase. I visited an Apple store and spent a lot of time with the 8+ and the XR. I was very gung-ho on the XR for awhile, even to the point of posting comments here and on other channels praising the virtues of that phone. However, in the end, I ended up getting the 8+ with 256gb in silver. First of all, I don't mind having bezels. I also prefer having a bigger physical device. And with the features it has (that matters to me) and a reasonable price, it was just right for me. I also like having a phone that syncs with my iPad as well but of course that can be done with any iPhone. Thanks for the video!
Wouldn’t you feel more at home with the XR and its gestures more than you would with the 8 Plus? I always find myself swiping up to go home on my 7 Plus after using my iPad the whole day.
Jonathan Peter I feel just fine with the 8+. I swipe up for the control center, you swipe down. I like touch id instead of flashing my face to unlock. I like peek and pop. I like 3d touch for my apps. I like having two cameras. And I like having 256g of storage for less money than a comparably-equipped XR. It works for me. 🙂

Not sure what you’re referring to. There was no exploding battery problem. They stopped making the X so they could give you a reason to but the XS since they are so similar.
Go to best buy and look at there displays and compare them. I looked at a ton of these videos and finally went and compared them in person. The XR really got a bad rap with the display, but after looking at them side by side with my own eyes, I choose the XR because of the better camera, longer support, face Id, more up to date design. I personally could not tell the difference in the display between the 8 plus and XR, but then again I didn't hold both of the devices two inches from my face to see if I could see pixels, since I would not be doing that normally anyway lol.
I upgraded to the XR from the 7 and the difference in battery life is quite noticeable. I have a habit of falling asleep watching continuous UA-cam videos (like old TV shows for example), and with the iPhone 7, when starting at 100% when I go to bed, the battery would often be at "low battery power" by morning. With the XR, doing the same thing, the battery charge is still well above 65% in the morning.
i would choose the xr because newer better a12 chip, better battery, no more outdated design, almost all the features of the xs series, going to be supported longer than the 8 plus, price is very close to that of the 8 plus. sure the 8 plus has a 1080p display and the xr has 820p but the display difference isn't a lot and not a deal breaker for me
@@vailtruck8312 i have both Xs and 8plus, and I seriously miss touch id. FACE iD is blazing fast and all but ain't so reliable. I hate when my phone is on the table and I have to lean over it to unlock, early morning wakeup unlocks as well, just small things like that irritate me. Apple could easily put touch id on the back, in the apple logo and that would be a perfect solution in my opinion

Thanks for the video... I think your video showed the iPhone 8 plus to be the better buy for the average consumer who doesn't need to have the latest tech just to have the latest tech. The XR has the cool screen and the face ID if you want to try something new but I think the iPhone 8 plus is the Pinnacle of that design language for the iPhone and it has no compromises and as long as you don't care about having some bezels it's the better phone and it's even the fast phone in real life use.
A very good comparison video and very informative. I have the 8 Plus in Product Red 256gb. This confirms my choice and I’m very happy with it. With all the recent glitches with iOS 12.1 and 12.2 updates regarding cell and WiFi reception, none of this has effected my 8 Plus though there are many reports of problems with the XR, XS, and XS Max. I’ve demoed the XR and XS and find my 8 Plus to be every bit as fast and capable. I love the looks of the various X models but I definitely prefer the haptic touch feature of my phone. I’m glad I made my choice of the 8 Plus. Now If Apple can work out the issues with the X series phones and stop with the horribly high prices, I may be more interested in the future.
i’m saving my money to buy the 8+. i am 11 and have 20$ saved at the moment. i wanted the 8+ for a while now. i asked for it for christmas and i didn’t get it. so i decided that it’s for the best that i start saving for myself. (january 11 i am now at 62$) (january 20 i am at 95$) + my parents got me the iphone 8 in space gray it’s brand new it’s just locked and we are going to get it unlocked. i will keep saving up and buy cases and other stuff for it!

The Xr sucks. U can’t even take portrait mode pictures of objects and u don’t have all 5 of the modes that are on the NEW Xs models. And u can’t watch 4K only 1080p. The only benefit of the Xr is the semi decent battery, color choice and price

Upgraded from an iPhone 6. Tested my NEW black XR. 100% battery at 6:00pm on Saturday. Didn’t charge (20% battery left) until 9:00pm the next day! This phone is a tank!!!
I think that 8 plus is faster right now because of app optimization. App developers have had over a year to optimize their apps of the 8 plus, while they have only had a few months for the iPhone Xr. I'm sure as time goes on this will end up changing and the full power of the newer chip will begin to show.

This is one of the best comparison videos I’ve seen (not biased toward either side in any way like some others). I own a 256GB iPhone 8 Plus’s and I plan on sticking with it for as long as I can since I’m not a huge fan of the design of the newer iPhones and I think my 8 Plus is at least on par with the XR (the XR’s lack of 3D Touch is disappointing to me).
@@sarinabrownechols87 - Yea, I wasn't gonna upgrade this year either, but I couldn't pass on the great deals this year. I got a similar deal for the XR and I got a Pixel 3 for free (practically). I'll probably sell one in a month or two once I make up my mind which to keep and I meet the deal requirements. The XR is a great phone but I'm leaning towards the Pixel 3 right now because of the smaller size, OLED and beautifully integrated Google Assistant.

I think in this case - there is no more vs. competition. It just comes down to your personal preference as both are great phones and you would have to make trade offs when buying either the XR or the 8 Plus. I choose XR.
I love the Xr. Would definitely recommend it over the iPhone 8 because it is the newest phone from apple so you won’t have to upgrade for a few years and its selling for 450$ which is really cheap for a phone that new. The camera is great and it is really fast
I like the way Apple Pay works with Touch ID. I just put my iPhone near the reader and then Apple Pay app appears on screen and then I just touch the home button. With Face ID it is more complicated, double press on sleep button then stare on iPhone and then put iPhone near the reader. But I must wear a mask in public places these days. Touch ID is more convenient for me, can not push myself to buy X’es or 11 ... still on iPhone 6s Plus
I just got the XR and I enjoy it very much. I love the battery and camera. Both of which are my main requirements for a phone. Hell I will take a slower phone if it means the battery is better, or the camera; both in my case. But I do kinda wish I had the 8 Plus because I miss my home button. The gestures were east to get used to but tapping home and close is better than swiping up and close. Or double press for apps vs drag to center of screen. Plus I miss swipe up for control or swipe down for notifications. Now I have to swipe down from left or right. Oh well, like you said Apple will continue to update them both for quite some time now.

What a timely video. I was on the fence about which phone to purchase. I visited an Apple store and spent a lot of time with the 8+ and the XR. I was very gung-ho on the XR for awhile, even to the point of posting comments here and on other channels praising the virtues of that phone.
However, in the end, I ended up getting the 8+ with 256gb in silver. First of all, I don't mind having bezels. I also prefer having a bigger physical device. And with the features it has (that matters to me) and a reasonable price, it was just right for me. I also like having a phone that syncs with my iPad as well but of course that can be done with any iPhone.

Wouldn’t you feel more at home with the XR and its gestures more than you would with the 8 Plus? I always find myself swiping up to go home on my 7 Plus after using my iPad the whole day.
Jonathan Peter I feel just fine with the 8+. I swipe up for the control center, you swipe down. I like touch id instead of flashing my face to unlock. I like peek and pop. I like 3d touch for my apps. I like having two cameras. And I like having 256g of storage for less money than a comparably-equipped XR.

I have the 8 Plus and I was conflicted about buying the XS Max so I waited until the XR came out and I still was conflicted. So I kept waiting... Then the new iPads came out. I kept the 8 Plus and got a 12.9 inch iPad Pro. Love it.

Not sure what you’re referring to. There was no exploding battery problem. They stopped making the X so they could give you a reason to but the XS since they are so similar.
Get the 7 plus or 8 plus if you're hung up on wireless charge
Go to best buy and look at there displays and compare them. I looked at a ton of these videos and finally went and compared them in person. The XR really got a bad rap with the display, but after looking at them side by side with my own eyes, I choose the XR because of the better camera, longer support, face Id, more up to date design. I personally could not tell the difference in the display between the 8 plus and XR, but then again I didn't hold both of the devices two inches from my face to see if I could see pixels, since I would not be doing that normally anyway lol.
I upgraded to the XR from the 7 and the difference in battery life is quite noticeable. I have a habit of falling asleep watching continuous UA-cam videos (like old TV shows for example), and with the iPhone 7, when starting at 100% when I go to bed, the battery would often be at "low battery power" by morning. With the XR, doing the same thing, the battery charge is still well above 65% in the morning.
i would choose the xr because newer better a12 chip, better battery, no more outdated design, almost all the features of the xs series, going to be supported longer than the 8 plus, price is very close to that of the 8 plus. sure the 8 plus has a 1080p display and the xr has 820p but the display difference isn't a lot and not a deal breaker for me

@@vailtruck8312 i have both Xs and 8plus, and I seriously miss touch id. FACE iD is blazing fast and all but ain't so reliable. I hate when my phone is on the table and I have to lean over it to unlock, early morning wakeup unlocks as well, just small things like that irritate me.
Apple could easily put touch id on the back, in the apple logo and that would be a perfect solution in my opinion

Thanks for the video... I think your video showed the iPhone 8 plus to be the better buy for the average consumer who doesn't need to have the latest tech just to have the latest tech. The XR has the cool screen and the face ID if you want to try something new but I think the iPhone 8 plus is the Pinnacle of that design language for the iPhone and it has no compromises and as long as you don't care about having some bezels it's the better phone and it's even the fast phone in real life use.

A very good comparison video and very informative. I have the 8 Plus in Product Red 256gb. This confirms my choice and I’m very happy with it. With all the recent glitches with iOS 12.1 and 12.2 updates regarding cell and WiFi reception, none of this has effected my 8 Plus though there are many reports of problems with the XR, XS, and XS Max. I’ve demoed the XR and XS and find my 8 Plus to be every bit as fast and capable. I love the looks of the various X models but I definitely prefer the haptic touch feature of my phone. I’m glad I made my choice of the 8 Plus. Now If Apple can work out the issues with the X series phones and stop with the horribly high prices, I may be more interested in the future.

i’m saving my money to buy the 8+. i am 11 and have 20$ saved at the moment. i wanted the 8+ for a while now. i asked for it for christmas and i didn’t get it. so i decided that it’s for the best that i start saving for myself. (january 11 i am now at 62$)
(january 20 i am at 95$) + my parents got me the iphone 8 in space gray it’s brand new it’s just locked and we are going to get it unlocked. i will keep saving up and buy cases and other stuff for it!

The Xr sucks. U can’t even take portrait mode pictures of objects and u don’t have all 5 of the modes that are on the NEW Xs models. And u can’t watch 4K only 1080p. The only benefit of the Xr is the semi decent battery, color choice and price

Upgraded from an iPhone 6. Tested my NEW black XR. 100% battery at 6:00pm on Saturday. Didn’t charge (20% battery left) until 9:00pm the next day! This phone is a tank!!!

I think that 8 plus is faster right now because of app optimization. App developers have had over a year to optimize their apps of the 8 plus, while they have only had a few months for the iPhone Xr. I'm sure as time goes on this will end up changing and the full power of the newer chip will begin to show.

This is one of the best comparison videos I’ve seen (not biased toward either side in any way like some others). I own a 256GB iPhone 8 Plus’s and I plan on sticking with it for as long as I can since I’m not a huge fan of the design of the newer iPhones and I think my 8 Plus is at least on par with the XR (the XR’s lack of 3D Touch is disappointing to me).

I'll probably sell one in a month or two once I make up my mind which to keep and I meet the deal requirements. The XR is a great phone but I'm leaning towards the Pixel 3 right now because of the smaller size, OLED and beautifully integrated Google Assistant.

I think in this case - there is no more vs. competition. It just comes down to your personal preference as both are great phones and you would have to make trade offs when buying either the XR or the 8 Plus. I choose XR.

I like the way Apple Pay works with Touch ID. I just put my iPhone near the reader and then Apple Pay app appears on screen and then I just touch the home button. With Face ID it is more complicated, double press on sleep button then stare on iPhone and then put iPhone near the reader. But I must wear a mask in public places these days. Touch ID is more convenient for me, can not push myself to buy X’es or 11 ... still on iPhone 6s Plus

I just got the XR and I enjoy it very much. I love the battery and camera. Both of which are my main requirements for a phone. Hell I will take a slower phone if it means the battery is better, or the camera; both in my case. But I do kinda wish I had the 8 Plus because I miss my home button. The gestures were east to get used to but tapping home and close is better than swiping up and close. Or double press for apps vs drag to center of screen. Plus I miss swipe up for control or swipe down for notifications. Now I have to swipe down from left or right. Oh well, like you said Apple will continue to update them both for quite some time now.
