  • Hey everyone!
    I learned a lot in making this video aboout the many nuances of medical entry across different schools. Today's video dives into Flinders Uni in SA, which I know has been hotly requested by many of you. Again, I was completely ignorant to the way things work here and learned a lot about the process.
    Let me know your thoughts!

    Hey, I'm Jesse, I'm a professional private tutor and founder of Simplified Study Tutoring. Since 2011, I've been helping students take a simpler approach to their studies and educating people in anything from science and maths to English and economics. In March 2021 I sat the GAMSAT and achieved an 84 including a 100 in Section 3. Hopefully, that's credentials enough to give this video a good watchin'.

      Ah yes, I meant to crop these in from their website. Thanks Denise!
      Definitely a result of increased demand on such a small cohort. Hopefully it eases off a little bit in this application round

    Hey, thank you for this video! Potentially a silly question but say you meet requirements for more than one sub quota eg. Flinders graduate with mentioned degree and rural does this better your chances?

    • @jesseosbourne
      @jesseosbourne  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Win, from the looks of the 2022 entry guide, you should be eligible for multiple sub-quotas if you can provide the relevant documentation as part of your application. The only one to be mindful of is the flinders graduate/non flinders graduate sub quotas as these are based on most recent study. So if you completed a Flinders undergrad but then went on to complete further studies at another uni, you'd no longer be eligible for the Flinders Grad sub quota and vice versa

    That building does look impressive - but it's not close to the ocean; it's just so high up by the Hills that you can see the ocean ... but also the CBD and beyond! It's about a 15-20 minute drive to the beach (if traffic is good) from the main campus.
    The medical school was built in the 70s and is part of the local hospital. However, Flinders is building a new health/biomed precinct that's supposed to be very impressive and fancy...

      Ah that makes a lot of sense! Very cool views nonetheless and very unlike all our uni campuses here in Melbourne
      I heard there's also a planned express train line from Flinders to the CBD?

      @@jesseosbourne Yep - the Flinders train opened this year. 20 min ride, compared to the 30-45 min bus :)

    I think that your dog’s airway might be collapsing a little at 20:30. The same thing used to happen to my dog. We took him to the vet about it and there wasn’t much we could do for him other than use harnesses rather than neck collars.

    • @jesseosbourne
      @jesseosbourne  2 роки тому +2

      Hey Liam. Nah he's fine, he's always been on a harness and we've had it doubled checked with his vet but they're not concerned. Sausage dogs and other long nosed dogs are more prone to reverse sneezing because of a longer, narrow nasal passage and dust or pollen getting up there. Kransky's only had a few instances in his life (this being one of them) and it just sounds a lot worse than it is. It usually involves me holding up his head and blowing into his nostrils to clear it though, which is why the video cuts 😂. Then he's back to his usual self. I appreciate the concern though and hope your little guy is doing better! :)

      @@jesseosbourne good to know. That your sausage’s name is Kransky warms my heart. I am glad he has an owner loving enough to resuscitate him via his wet little snout! XD

    How many times can you sit the GAMSAT in a year for a MD application for flinders?

    • @jesseosbourne
      @jesseosbourne  2 роки тому +1

      So there's a max of two tests that can be sat in a year (March and September) and you can only register once per testing period. In terms of applications, results stay valid for two years but you cannot use September results from the same year of application given applications start in May.
      So if you're looking at 2023 entry to flinders you can choose from a max of four sittings (if you've sat them and have results) from March 22, Sep 21, March 21, Sep 20
      Likewise, if you're looking at 2024 entry (applying in 2023) then you could use March 23, Sep 22, March 22, sep 21
