- I had a chance to preview of a pre-production copy of the new and unreleased Nikkor Z 50mm F1.4 lens. Chaperoned by a Nikon staff and only having a very short time to review the Nikon Z 50mm F1.4, I give Nikon’s latest 50mm prime lens a spin. I also managed to squeeze in some time to do a quick comparison with the other Z mount lenses, the 50mm F1.2 S, 50mm F1.8 S as well as the 50mm F2.8 macro lens.
Is this lens created with the same design philosophy as the Nikkor 35mm F1.4? I think so, but this seems to perform better in terms of sharpness.
Images were taken with available lighting and the portraits in the gallery are spontaneous shots of strangers who happened to walk by. There’s no make up artist, artificial lighting, and since they were strangers, the ladies were posed almost exactly on the spot I met them.
Sneak a preview at my blog for more images with the NIKKOR Z 50mm F1.4: www.zacharylai...

Images/Videos was taken using a pre-production Nikkor Z 50mm F1.4 set and was processed from the photographer's impression.
Note that for purposes of this UA-cam video, minimal processing was done to show the true quality of the glass. Other images from my account on IG have more edits to show what you can achieve with the lens.

Right now its only about $30 cheaper than the 1.8 S
And the 1.8 S is the better choice in my opinion, because it's got the nicer bokeh and better sharpness.
@@stefan_becker The sharpness yes, the bokeh no...
Expect an 85mm f1.4 Z mount .
I'll get it no matter how bad it is.
This is an amazing lens specially for the price
it they were the same price, which one would you choose: 1.4 or 1.8 ? I really don't know if the 1.8 s is that much better in fringing and sharpness that i should give up that 1.4 aperture.
I would go for the 1.8 S. Better weather sealing, slight increase in sharpness beats the 1.4 wide aperture which is seldom used at 1.4 anyway
pretty stupid @nikonusa forces you to choose like that
Preproduction? When it will be released?
It was preproduction at time of filming but released now already
Can you tell me how to connect the screen from the camera to the iPhone?

Can I ask you, how to use mobile phone for EVF recording? Which equipment and Apps I need? Thanks

@@ZacharyLaiPhotography and which apps?
Ayam everywhere in SG!
Haha yes!
@nikonusa this 1.4 50mm should be $300 tops -its not sharp at all
not good for landscape but only for portraits. We need sharpness for landscape.
I don’t think this lens is targeted for landscape photographers
@@ZacharyLaiPhotography yes agree. But if I only have one lens for travel and I happen carry this, it would be great if I can use this in any genre
Never use bird mode to shoot he rooster 😅
No time to switch, and it works fine anyway. Honestly can’t be bothered
