- The Daily Mail's Craig Hope brings you the very latest on NUFC after seeing Eddie Howe at the training ground ahead of Wednesday's Premier League game at Manchester United.
The fitness and future of Callum Wilson was discussed... and Craig has news on Benjamin Sesko and Serhou Guirassy as potential replacements.
Also, will Alexander Isak be fit for the trip to Old Trafford?

Craig's comb over is Jackie Charlton level 🔥
I’ve had it cut to reduce the impact of the wind exposing it…
Bald spot!? Hes got a beautiful fleece howay 😂
Hi Craig I have no problem selling Willson he's out more times than Clint Eastwoods revolver 👍
More time off than John Wayne’s safety catch!
Isak is a bit of a gun slinger to 😂
Craig, surely if Wilson leaves we need 2 new forwards. We’ve been too light up front after Wood left.
Eddie wanted to keep Wood, I think. He would have played this season too.
Unless we get Saudi money for Callum, why not offer him a end of career contract based on appearances/availability.
Comes in when fit, plays 3rd fiddle to a fully fit Isak +1.
Some names from FC24!
Boulaye Dia, Elye Wahi, Duk, Alejo Veliz, Jonathan David, Zirkzee, Josh Sargent, Santiago Gimenez, Viktor Guyokeres, Evanilson, Jamie Donley, Muokoko, Nmecha, Brereton Diaz, Fernando at Salzburg, Luciano Gondou, Tammy Abraham, Julian Quinones, Durosinmi, Maths Tel, Archer, Cho Gue Sung, Kolo Muani
Like the look of Joshua Zirkzee at Bologna. Similar profile to Isak. But wonder if he'll stay in Italy now they've secured UCL for next. Think Tammy Abraham could be one to watch. Also like Evanilson at Porto.
hi Craig - good take on the striker front - my question is - would we not be better off putting more of our budget into a right winger / front 3 attacker who is also able to play up front? Isak is the clear no.1 and spending £50m on a Sesko to sit on the bench given our PSR limits is not good. Retain Wilson for 1 more season, sell other first teamers / Miggy, Trippier, Dubravka, maybe longstaff to fund moves. Mbeumo or Matheus Cunha are solid options - Mbeumo 12 months left on contract too. thoughts?
I reckon with Eddie's knack for getting players playing, Scamacca or Vinicius of Fulham wouldn't be bad shouts
Guirassy and Sesko both great options. Have watched a fair bit of Guirassy - and I think he's perfect - big powerful robust #9 but also extremely technical - scores tap-ins, lobs, and 30-yard screamers. If we can get him for 15-20m it's a no-brainer to me. Great vid as usual Craig.
He sounds wonderful! Thanks for watching.
Mamardashvili is a must buy for us.
100%
It was a mistake this season to not have a third striker, next season, given what we know, it would be criminal to go again with only isak and wilson.
We can’t go with Isak and Wilson but we could go with Isak and another striker (who doesn’t have injury problems). Given how expensive decent strikers are I doubt we’ll sell Wilson and buy 2 new strikers, it’s also very hard to keep 3 strikers happy when there’s only 1 striker position in the first team, that’s why Wilson will be leaving. In January the sources claimed that Wilson expected us to buy another striker in the summer and he isn’t willing to be 3rd choice, therefore he asked to move.
If we can keep 3 strikers happy then great but I can’t see it happening.
Probably wouldn't have been as much of an issue if Barnes wasn't out for so long
I saw it coming at the start of the season we need strikers isak also misses games injured
@@warwickhuntAt last, you hit the nail on the head. He was bought in the summer for his goals from midfield & can be used as a striker.
@@ianvincent5069Everyone saw it at the start of the season, I’m sure the club knew it was a risk.
Doesn’t change the fact that we couldn’t afford to buy another striker of the quality we need
Interesting video as usual Craig. The point that people seem to miss is that even with our notoriously fragile strikers we have managed to still be in the top four for most goals scored this season. So scoring goals isn’t the issue we are trying to solve. What I believe we need to spend our budget on is a CB and RW
Good point. A RW is the priority for me.
I think this is missing the point of what a clinical finisher gives you. Our healthy goals tally is due to us scoring heavily multiple times. Another clinical finisher doesn't change these results, but where it does pay off is in the tighter games where we drew or lost because we didn't score. When Isak was out or off form, another clinical finisher could turn some of those losses and draws into wins. A difference maker.
The point is we do not have unlimited funds so a choice has to be made. A clinical finisher probably equals the cost of a RW, CB and a LB
Santiago Giménez, Joshua Zirkzee, Jonathan David, Vitor Roque, Lois Openda or possibly Evanilson. All possibilities. Looks like Sesko may choose Arsenal.
I would Vitor Roque another Brazilian 🇧🇷 to our team! If not then Santiago Gimenez man is a machine in front of goal!
Gimenez I read a poor report about. David would be a lot of money?
Gudmundsson at Genoa is having a good season and can play across the front 3
@@craighope_dailymail sell Wilson and Almiron. Buy Olise, Sesko and Brereton-Diaz. Plus the two free transfer centre halfs
great assessment as always, thanks
Thanks Gerry.
Great video as always mate. I'd still like Evan Ferguson but he's not worth the £100m Brighton want for him, also he's tailed off the 2nd part of the season & had injury problems but I feel there's an excellent player on there & Eddie could get a lot out of him. Sesko however has arguably more potential & will be cheaper too. A Mitrovic style player would fit the bill for us, as it would give us a totally different option to Isak from the bench. Would you welcome Mitro back? Would PIF let that deal happen? Crazy as it sounds I think he's a far better player than the one that left.
Ferguson has a bit to prove all of a sudden now. Fitness being one.
My thoughts right now... Ramsdale if we can afford him / Tosin - a VERY good player / Kelly - if hip is ok / Gibbs-White - perfect age, even more room to improve with goals and assists. Genuinely don't know enough about Guirassy or Sesko except the age profile of Sesko suits Howes ability to bring on younger players.
Completely agree with you except we can't keep our wage structure if we buy players from the top six. Hence I doubt we buy Ramsdale.
can't see Ramsdale wanting to leave arsenal to be our no.2, or Pope being content being a no.2, club could only have 1 realistically.
Better off doing our FFP and wage structure a favour and stick with Pope as #1 and find a young lower league keeper for spares. Ramsdale is quality, but surplus when we need to spend money other places.
The thing to look at regarding the centre forward position is do we spend £60m on one now and not rely on Calum to be fit and have said centre forward for 5 years or more with the coaching staff probably improving him or do we take a risk of getting another half year with him and STILL have to spend the same £60m a year later. To me the decision is a no brainer.
Although midfielder and winger would be nice with possibly two free centre backs coming in then centre forward and another keeper/sweeper to help Pope are the essentials. I say a keeper is the big essential as Karius will be away because he won't be happy being 3rd keeper again, especially as in my opinion and a lot of fans he is far better than Dubravka. As well as that Dubravka I think will be going as he does not want to play second fiddle to Pope.
give wilson another year and that gives you time to bring a young striker in or through academy as a goal scorer is the most exspensive player to buy
in that case I'd want to see us spend big on a right forward, miggy isn't really good enough to be our no.1
I hope you're right. I think he would be a good fit for us. Rangy, tall and scores different types of goals.
Wilson will go down as a legend of the club but he has to move on or settle for 3rd choice even when he’s fit he gets ill. If eddies judgement is we can rely on these 2 strikers I can’t get behind that. Everyone knows we need a striker.
Craig on a different note whats happened to harrison ashby the youngun we got from leeds
West Ham*
He’ll come back from loan for summer. I suspect another loan next year.
I was warning about Benjamin Sesko 2 years ago before his price was as it is today.
Benjamin Sesko.. Perfect Signing..
Certainly scope for big improvement.
Not sure if you know how interested Newcastle is in bringing back Yakuba Minteh as a bench piece for RW. It's a big jump from dutch football to Premier League football, but would love to see him come back in some capacity. Stop gap striker is fine. Hope they can bring in another young striker who can improve. RW is a must imo, unless they can somehow find consistently between barnes and gordon on the pitch together.
With all the speculation regarding Isak, Guimaraes and Gordon - I hope that ‘Newcastle United’s development’ doesn’t include us being a nursery club for the so called top six. I hope that we grow by building a team around those players and not off the back of money we get for any of them. FFP has a lot to answer for!
Dear Craig,
Canny video from the chi-chi streets of gosforth👍🙏
Score prediction:5-0👍✊👏🤘😎😊😁
Howe-ay the Lads💪
Regards,
I would sign Gift Orban as striker, what a player he is!
I think we could go for Loïs Openda.
Keep Wilson, but bring one more in. Wilson's experience in the Premier league is invaluable
You can't afford NOT to replace an essential position in the squad where the current player is rarely fit. They can ask how much to replace him at his best, but ANY signing would be an improvement during any of his lengthy periods out. Its not just missing him - its then the extra strain it puts on Isak.
Howe will sign Solanke for £60m and keep Wilson
Both exciting prospects up front. I can’t see either the club or the player (Wilson) being happy with 3rd spot in the pecking order which let’s face it, can be his and our only option if we keep him.
If only Callum… to me he can still be considered one of the Newcastle greats, given his goals per game ratio. He would also be one of our worst on starts versus time at the club.
I don't think he needs to be 3ird choice necessarily I think giving him the role of first choice off the bench might be a thing ie he's used exclusively as an impact sub while we rotate isak and another his ego might not want the role but it's the role his body needs
@@ianvincent5069 if you are rotating Isak and another in front of Wilson that makes him 3rd choice. Not much hiding from that and Wilson would have to swallow that. I think that’s what Eddie wants but whether the player wants that remains to be seen
@@fizzysausage his role isn't to start games at all in my system it's impact sub which is not a role he's competing with isak or the other striker for so he's first choice in that role whether it could be sold to him this way and him be happy with it is another question
I think the issue is that nobody will want to sign an injury prone striker on high wages. We may be forced to keep Wilson. Either way, we need to sign a striker even if Howe suggests otherwise.
Problem is to buy what Callum Wilsons got costs obscene amounts of money and just accept where he is!
Read between the lines when Eddie talks about how expensive to replace Wilson - he’s surely trying to prime perspective buyers to make a decent offer unlike in Jan.
Sesko is surely n1 in anyone’s book. Wouldn’t be disappointed with Tammy Abraham tbh
Wilson has been good but time has caught up with him and his body now more than ever
Got no chance sadly with Sesko, odds on he'll end up at Arsenal. His agent is a regular at the Emirates this season
Id keep Wilson after loads of thought only if they can find a winger that can also play striker, sorta like Gordon. Versatility in the forward group is something Eddie likes.
Miguel Almiron should be a striker
@@BrianPinas9 hmmmm, no.
What about Vincent Aboubakar and Allasane Plea? Can get them both for under £10m and they're experienced champions league players
Elijah Adebayo would be a good buy. he has been very good for Luton this season
Johan Bakayoko was linked, any truth?
Need another striker even if Wilson stays. If he goes, then two need to come in, simple as
Keep Wilson, adding cheap 3rd striker Guirassy. Upgrade departing Wilson next year. Right wing priority, centre back next priority for this year's continued rebuild.
I guarantee if Wilson goes there will be a queue of premier league teams. Brentford, Forrest, Palace maybe even Spurs
Probably also Everton, Wolves, Fulham..
A promoted club would make sense, I think. But I’ve heard abroad.
Wilson is a proven operator when fit but pointless to keep when only available for half the games
The holes in their rooves at the weekend was an absolute sign as to the state of play (excuse the pun) at Old Trafford , no longer Theatre of Dreans , more Streams , take your pnchos 😂
I'm fine with Wilson gone. So obvious he doesn't want to be at Newcastle
Is there no one in the Championship that could be something of a bargain, deputy striker?
I like the idea of Guirassy, an older head who could still act as a mentor to Isak and for 15 million it seems a solid deal. On the other hand I think Sesko is just out of our budget because RW needs open heart surgery and quick.
Tammy Abraham.
Interesting. Someone else suggested him to me. Had injuries though.
Heart says win, head says 1-1. There, said it!
That would be enough if Chelsea results go our way.
Chelsea will win both games there in form there striker is scoring now and palmer hasn't stopped all season
I’m the other way Roger. Head says we should (should) win. Heart says those bastards will turn up for once, like a bad penny out of nowhere, and piss on any chance of our parade - again!
Sesko at 40 million euros (transfermarkt) would be a bargain and potentially a world class 9 for the future....but as always with FFP where is the money going to come from if we want to hold on to our key players? Also I imagine there a lot of big clubs after him all over Europe. I'd rather we buy young so Eddie can develop them and we can always sell them on at a profit, long term it has to be the way we do things if we want to grow as a club. Bit of a left field choice for a potentially excellent striker would be Marcos Leonardo, 21 year old Brazilian forward at Benfica, transfermarkt have him at 25 million euros.
How is sesko only 40 million that seems cheap for potentially a world class player
@@BrunoIsMagic not sure, might be a release clause, I thought he'd cost around 60 tbh.
The thing is Craig Isak is a proven premiership striker
Disagree that we should be moving Wilson on unless there is a big offer for him. We need another Striker categorically however I still think there is a role for Wilson as an impact sub,
But can we really count Wilson when he's never available?
@@listey I think he'd be available alot more if he was playing in 30 min bursts but we should still have two other strikers regardless for me
Hopefully it doesn't rain hard, you will need water wings, in that place. 😅😅😅😅😂😂😂😂😂😂
Could we buy a striker and keep Wilson to get us back to 3 strikers so injuries less of an impact.
With what money?
It sounds more like they’ll go with two strikers again.
Sell Wilson and bring two in. To compete in Europe and in every domestic comp we will need three Strikers
I disagree 1 who can stay fit consistently and someone like mbemo on the right wing who is able to play down the middle.
@@edpurdy1808 Isak will never be able to play European games with PL games plus domestic comps.
Three are a must.
@@ericengleby265 It’s not though it’s a waste of limited finances. We have to think smart no other teams in the league have 3 strikers. If you have a second striker who is rarely injured with a right winger like mbemo can cover. Otherwise we have to buy 2 strikers and right winger which we don’t have the money for.
agred ned buy 2 striker ort a last 1 striker and one who has show can play acrose front and scorer goal, Gordon dont work ther it clear for all to se, so ned 2 in who can play ther, and for me Wilson ned be first out we can not aford him more whit all hes injures, ned say good bye and many thanks for all you done, but keep him is like keep Gillipsie, Dummett , Ritchie and FRaser, Hendrick and so on.
@@edpurdy1808 are you for real. Wjat happens if you need to change shape with two up top like the other week.
This seadon at one point we had no fit strikers.
Isak is top quality but very lightweight. As for Wilson well his injury history speaks for itself
You have to have a buyer to sell
Would rather get Guirassy in + give Wilson a 2 year extension. We need 3 strikers
I'd keep Wilson if we had a young striker to step up. But I can't imagine Wilson wants to play third fiddle
Why is there no mention of yankuba minteh whenever there is talk of a replacement for miggy? I thought eddie was keen on him joining up with us this summer & that you guys in the media would be a little more enthused about it? Cheers as always craig.
Let’s see what he does in pre season. It’s down to him now.
Guirassys release clause has expired, it was only for January. It will cost a lot to get him now.
Don't see why we can't play with two up front most games, a second striker doesn't need to be an understudy.
Kelly/Tosin on a free opens up a lot of money. Gibbs-White, Olise would be good signings!
Gibbs white would be good I think he would suit Eddie how's play style seems to always be aggressive which would suit us and olise would add that quality also eze would be class too but ffp
Gibbs White is a Championship player
@@BrunoIsMagicHe's a Championship player. Has 6 good games in 50. Should be signing Murillo from Forest. He's getting man of the match nearly every week.
£55M on a 5 year contract, which is not unreasonable for the age, is £11M in next years budge. Callum Wilson's book value should be pretty much 0 right now, so any fee would be 100% profit. If we could get £11M fo him, then it would be 25/26 season before there was any FFP/FRS impact, by which time hopefully we have had 2 seasons in Europe to increase revenues
Think.its.time.for.wilson.to.go
Where can Wilson go and get more games than he gets now. Surely in his case injuries dictate his appearance rate & he ain't getting any younger so why wouldn't he choose to stay as a sort of "as and when," third choice striker to support two main strikers. How good would it be to have him fit & available to cover for Isak & A N Other. Sure. it won't exactly be an ego trip for him but so long as he knows what his role is then what is there out there for him now that is going to be better than staying at Newcastle?
My approach would be to keep Wilson, but sign a young forward to be 3rd choice who can be developed
We need players for now. Not in 5 years from now.
Enough with the young players, experienced pros are needed.
@@Jordan-qj7we Wilson and Isak are proven no?🤣
@@JakeD98 proven at being injury prone yes.
Get a young striker, watch isak and Wilson be injured 4 games in next season, and people like you will bitch we have no players, and the ones we've bought 'aren't ready yet'
@@Jordan-qj7we people like me 😂 chill out bro
Guirassy may prefer to stay at Stuttgart and play CL next season.
Premier League + Europa League or Bundesliga + Champions League. Tough call. I’d go the former.
Craig he doesn’t have enough of them days he plays less than 50% of his games get money for him now while when we can
Šeško would work in better then Chelsea's Timo did. need that solid Tosin Kelly combo to settle the backs for years... Old Traff not your Sir Alex place anymore. can be had a Streaking Gordon past a turned Harry. and its in!
At 28 cant see NUFC spending a +25m fee. Besides Wood anything over that has been on under 26 year olds. Sesko is more likely
He is going to be a diminishing return. Wilson - can we get more that 5-0m for him from Saudi?
Solanke, , Hwang, Kyogo, Ward Prowse, Joachim Anderson, Antonee Robinson, Dewsbury-Hall ....
Would need to sell at least two of Bruno, Gordon and Isak to be able to afford them.
@@listey I didn't mean sign all of them, though that would be nice, just pick one out of that lot, as the question is about strikers, one out of the first 3.
@@ronniechambers2555 Solanke will cost too much for the return, English club selling to an English club. The next two, definite hard pass on both, they are too old, Kyogo hasnt pulled up many trees in very weak leagues. Hang, 28 and also not very prolific and at his age, he is what he is. No resale value on both which the club has to look at for its sustainability.
Sign those players and we'll be in a relegation battle
@@listeyit's a no brainer to sell Anthony Gordon and sack Eddie Howe. Isak and Guimaraes must be kept as it's hard to find better elsewhere
But *what* is Wilson’s issue? *Why* is he so injury prone? There must be a reason, a top athlete is in peak health and condition… are his hamstring muscles damaged? Do they need surgery for example? Has there been a diet change that triggered him to be susceptible? I’m throwing random things out here as an example, but the point is I think the club need to be honing in on exactly *why* Wilson’s body is so susceptible to injury.
I reckon we should splash £60M on Solanke and back up 2 main strikers with a young un. Maybe Cole Palmer, i hear Chelsea have PSR problems. 😂
I can't imagine either Solanke or Isak would want to play second fiddle. Or are we thinking playing two up front?
Solanke not for me now.
@@craighope_dailymailHe's had a good season, but we can get better for much cheaper. Artem Dobryk was £6m. He's scored over 20 goals in La Liga
Selling wilson is a no brainer his fitness is concerning and he wont want to play 3rd striker.isak has struggled with fitness also .
Guirassy definitely no, he has had a poor career and his performances this season are a one off. There is no way he is good enough for the premiership never mind the top six, so forget him and move on. Sesko is being watched by everyone and a move to Arsenal, Chelsea or Man Utd is much more likely.
On Wilson, he’s in the last year of his contract so we will have to replace him next summer and receive nothing for him. If we can get £15/20 million for him this summer he has to be moved on. He scored some important goals for us in the last four seasons but it’s time to move on. Same with Miggy, Longstaff and Dubravka. Great servants but will not help us reach the next level.
I think 5-10 is more realistic.
We're getting Chris Wood back aren't we?🤣
Wilson OUT. Enough is enough. Great servant for Newcastle United but it’s time to go. Wilson should move to a warmer climate which will help his body.
Sick to the back teeth of all this speculation.
Let’s just wait & see, it’s been going on all season & where are we at. Loads of chat & waste of time for 9 months & still nothing.
It’s just all click bate, 😤
No way is Wilson going Saudi. He will stay unless one of the top 3 leagues in Europe come for him. He will run out his contract at the toon.
I'M AFRAID I READ EDDIE'S PRESS CONFERENCE. TOTALLY DIFFERENT TO YOU. THE WAY I READ IT THEY'LL BOTH BE OK
Made of glass Wilson has to go definitely Miggy we have Minteh to replace him get Toisin and Kelly on frees we should get something for Cashworth Dubs and get rid of the dead wood that should give us a big chunk of change to go towards Sesko . And remember Wilson will be out of contract next year anyway so we will still have to buy a striker then
How do you sell Wilson? Who's gonna buy him?..........
Mitro!
I'd be tempted to move target on & use the wages from him & dummet to have a good look at kieran tierney at arsenal
Newcastle United will wipe the floor with Manchester United tomorrow/Thursday morning here. Remember this
Only Saudi can afford or put up with Wilson.
I’m watching this after the Man U game Callum Wilson needs to go, can’t rely on him anymore to injury prone
Too much? We have CL money dont we?
Patson Daka at leicester city will be a good signing.
Why do you so called journalist not ask certain questions, why not ask proper questions such as, Mr Howe there is always a problem with team selection can you not just play the strongest team available on the day of play, sentiment has no place in football, we as supporters want to win things, we don’t want to see our top players sitting on the bench, if they are not fit they should not be on the bench it’s as simple as that, all you have to do Mr Howe is be ruthless with certain players, if you are not able to do that then we will not be competing for the premiership, the FA cup, the European games and so on, the best thing to do in this situation is stand aside and go, let someone who can be ruthless have a go at winning things for this club, the supporters, the owners, it’s time to take a long hard look at yourself are you up-to top level management or not.
lol if we win our last two games and spurs loose their final game then we’ll be finishing 5th
The contrast in attitude between Wilson and isak is staggering, isak desperate to play despite being under the weather and Wilson desperate not to play and put his feet up also under the weather, he is an expensive luxury we can't afford
How do you know that?
Yet when on the pitch, it's always Wilson who puts a proper shift in
@@paulbell3723What’s a proper shift? Isak has more goals since October than Wilson has in a full season ever in his career. What does that say? There’s never any lack of effort from Isak.
That really is a ridiculous comment 😮
I know Eddie loves Wilson but Isak needs help and if we want to fight on all competitions we need another young striker or even 2 .🌑⚽️🖤🤍
if we were not able to qualify for europe due to mamu beating city on pens in the cup final then arses need kicking for alowing us to go into this season with only two strikers, both of which are/were injury prone. Can't make that mistake again
If Wilson was a horse hed hav been shot by noo 🐎
Sell wilson..no doubts
Sadly Wilson has to go. Fragile and will only get worse i feel. I was more confident of victory over Man Ure before Saturdays performance but if Isak 90% we will beat them. Chelsea still gotta get past Brighton !
