Nick on Planet Ripple Please for the love of Lego do 2007 fantasy or any castle theme
Loved the video! Would it be possible to do a video on Knights Kingdom?
Eventually.
Nick on Planet Ripple good to know thank you!
Once I was bored I came up with a theme called Dinosaur Kingdom, which is set in the 21st century where Paleontologist discover a large underground cavern, they explore and find Dinosaurs still alive. More arrive and discover new types of Dinosaurs, that are smaller and are humanoid and have developed their own culture, so the UN lists the cavern or Dino World as protected. While paleontologists study them and build a peaceful relationship with them there are others who seek to exploit them for personal desires. So the UN puts together a taskforce to protect the Dino World from poachers and criminals.
Yes this theme is combat orientated I even had people wielding machineguns. The main part of the sets are largely brick built dinosaurs with a small, medium or large vehicle (depending on the set), minifigure being one good guy, bad guy and a humanoid dinosaur (different species, bigger sets with 2 or more) and a baby dinosaur (matching the humanoid one in the set). The baby dinosaur is usually the objective for the set with the bad guy(s) trying to kidnap them to auction them off and the good guy and Humanoid Dinosaur protecting them!
Dino Attack is so edgy, I love it, still remember that theme fondly because of the insanely good vehicle designs.
The helicopter was the coolest LEGO vehicle I can remember.
@@Gabriel-jg7erImagine if someone went back in time, owned a lot of these sets and said: "I wonder if they had a mech.." and suddenly-
Interestingly, they all kind of resemble military vehicles. The Iron Predator is a tank that looks like something out of Halo, the Fire Hammer is a Lego Humvee, Urban Avenger is a modified army buggy, and the T1 Typhoon is basically an army helicopter with those dual cockpits and gunner turrets.
@@Autisticguywithacamera Oh shit, you're right lol, I never noticed that before, but since you pointed it out, it makes sense.
I have something to add though, those designs work because they're not simply realistic military vehicles, there's bits of personality added on to them - For example, the Fire Hammer isn't just a Humvee, it's a goddamn _V8 with an exposed engine_ for some reason, with a turret that is more emphasized and oversized.
The Iron Predator isn't just a Scorpion from Halo, it lacks a roof, it's adorned with dinosaur teeth (giving it somewhat of a tribal look), and while the base of the main gun isn't as large, the barrel itself is significantly bigger than a Scorpion's main cannon, which makes it look extra dangerous.
Little details like this can go a long way in making the vehicles feel distinct, along with the awesome red and tan colour schemes (with the green highlighted bits).
Thanks for replying to a comment I left a while ago, some of those can be a blast.
@@Autisticguywithacamera yeah and that gunner turret was based off of a real ww1 gun.
That moment when you look in your old Lego bins and see the scattered remains of those old , now valuable sets😢

😢the good old days
I wasn't much into dinosaurs as a kid, but I distinctively remember looking at the sets for Dino Attack and thinking "Woah, that looks so cool! Those dinosaurs look scary!" I never ended up getting any DA sets, but I sure do remember the theme vividly, that's for sure.
2:43 Can we appreciate how that Tyrannosaur has feather like structures on its arms?
Not sure if that's true
That's because the same piece was used in the dragons from the early-mid 90s.
I think they were supposed to be spikes but I was thinking the same thing
Perfect for a yutyranus
I had the Dino Attack Helicopter as a kid, and I must say, it was one of my favorite Lego sets I ever had. I had that thing on display prominently in my room for YEARS.
“Creating such iconic character as ‘Tuttle the turtle’” I burst out laughing!
Hey I grew up with Tuttle the turtle put respect on his name
Wait Dino2010, was originaly like that?! holy shit i never knew! Im from Europe, so i never knew haha
What a trip, huh?
@@NickonPlanetRipple Yeah, I remember the Dino2010 from the catalogues as ahving nets and cages, the policy to make different sets or changes based on geographical location is frustrating to collectors, especially since overseas shipping of full set is so expensive...
I remember visiting Canada back then and being suprised by Dino2010 and wondering why it looked like DinoAttack.
Yep, Dino 2010 was just a censored rebranding of Dino Attack for European markets.
Canada is in Europe?
Imagine an alternate universe where Bionicle lived long enough for the whole cyborg dinosaur thing and it being covered by this video.
Biosaurs?
Basicaly the rahi on crack
I *love* the art style of the classic lego animals- Horses, sharks, parrots, dragons, crocodiles, dolphins- something about how small and simplistic they were fit a lot better with minifigures than modern animals i feel. Unless they're fully brick built like ninjago's dragons or the new d2c jurassic park set, those are always beautiful
Nick - going through a rough few days and was browsing old sets and decided to rewatch LEGO rewind. I don’t normally rewatch things because there’s so much in my backlog I feel guilty. But this has been so comforting. I can’t stop going through these - such amazing videos you created.
I love the Rewind series so much. I didn't personally grow up with a lot of the stuff touched up in the series, but I recall seeing stuff like G1 of Bionicle, Agents (which I owned sets of both), Exo Force, and Mission to Mars. Your videos bring back that inner kid in me, begging my parents to go to Toys R Us, or Target to look at LEGO sets. Like I mentioned in a comment earlier, if I had the ability to go back in time, I'd tell young me to save the instructions and keep the parts separated for later, so I could rebuild them and thoroughly relive those memories.
I know people like to make fun of edgy things from the 90s and early 2000s but to be honest I find there’s a certain charm to them.
Also I’m fine with LEGO not doing feathered dinosaurs. I think the traditional look is better for their toys plus even though they’re not scientifically accurate, scaled dinosaurs are much cooler looking.
In LEGO's defense, feathers would probably be hard to pull off in LEGO form.
feathers look way cooler, tf you mean? still, as said above i can see why, plus most children prefer scaled variants.
Tesla-Effect Sorry but I find giant reptiles way more appealing than oversized birds.
more so birds are dinosaurs, not the other way around.
but also, most dinosaurs weren't feathered. therapods and raptors are about it for feathered dinosaurs.
Dino Attack was AWESOME. I had evrey one of those sets, and for years regretted not getting duplicates. I still remember seeing the main helicopter on clearance one time at Walmart because the T-Rex head had been stolen from the package. It was marked down a LOT, and it would have been awesome to have a second.
"no actual dinosaurs were harmed in the making of these sets"
ironically, plastic is a petroleum byproduct and petroleum used to be dinosaurs (waaay oversimplifying it), so... XDDDDD
but did lego kill them?
NdieCity
Aku did.
It’s come full circle
Actually, it wasn't dinosaurs but very primitive plant life.
Plastic is made from oil
Oil is made from dinosaurs
Plastic dinosaurs are made from real dinosaurs
I absolutely loved the Dino Attack range. I had the large car, tank, helicopter and dune buggy sets. Interesting that europe got a watered down version, whereas the ones I got in Australia where the uncensored kind.
Well, there is the next format im going to crave 😂
Krass, dich hier zu sehen ^^ hab die Serie jetzt erst entdeckt und seitdem nix anderes mehr gemacht
Dino Attack was my first ever introduction to actual LEGO sets as well the Creator dino sets. They're still intact for the most part but the "Dinos" are still in perfect condition. It was my childhood. I still think the new Dino molds are decent and well implemented in the Jurassic World sets.
I love how, understandably, you talk about the plethora of large theropods and the lack of herbivores and then LEGO goes and makes a triceratops, ankylosaurus and baryonyx!
To say nothing of the additions in the latest wave!
For the longest time i thought Johnny thunder was alan grant
looks more like Ian Malcolm
I remember getting some Lego Dino Attack sets for my 11th birthday, it was amazing.
People give Lego a lot of crap for the nonlethal "tranquilizer" plots, but I kind of liked those more than sets where the the heroes are using lethal weapons. Lego stuff was so expensive, big and distinct, it felt like a waste to just kill off your awesome new toy or have it be another boss battle. That's why I liked the infected mask thing so much for Bionicle; if you wanted your awesome new toy to not be evil, just say its tamed! Of course, a kid can imagine whatever they want, but when I was that age it helped to have some starting ideas.
Jim Hag lol I always used to just resurrect all my characters after battles. I used to have like 50 minifigs and by the end it would be around 4 or 5 heroes agains 1 or 2 big bads, and only maybe two of the heroes would survive to the very end. And then the next day they’d all magically be alive again with no connection to the previous plot 😂
Word!
LEGO had mass-destruction energy weapons in Exo Force (Not counting Star Wars), but the enemies were robots that had no remorse for who they're gonna kill or have killed, especially when Meca One acknowledged Sensei Keiken as his creator, his father. If I had my own LEGO battle lore, I would have human soldiers that would survive even if their mecha exploded, much like the classic anime Yatterman.
I had the LEGO Creator 3-in-1 dinosaur set. It's probably my favorite dinosaur set simply because it was completely made out of bricks instead of being a few giant molds of plastic. The color schemes were pretty fantastic, with some great contrast with the red and tan for the carnivores and grey and brown for the herbivores (though they did cross over colors across different sets pretty often). The designs were distinct enough to easily tell what dinosaur they represented. Well, except for the Deinosuchus; dino-gators don't get much love.
Sadly, the biggest thing holding them back were their joints. Some sets, like the Pteranodon, had really simple joints that were sturdy but flexible enough to provide a large range of articulation. Other sets used those joints for the dinos' tails and feet. The Stegosaurus had it bad, though, with legs you could barely move and feet that were extremely hard to pose at all. However, many sets used the ball and joint system, as seen in Knights Kingdom, to varying degrees of success. They worked wonderfully with the long necks of the Diplodocus, allowing you to pose his neck however you want, but were really hit and miss with the rest. I think the problem was that some joints worked better at different angles. They were stiff and sturdy in some positions but light and flexible in others, and how useful each setup was pretty much depended on the set you had.
I think the T-Rex got it worst. Poor T-Rex. Everything about it just didn't work right. His knee joints were too weak to support him in most angles, so it would fall right over if you didn't set up its legs just right. Even worse, his hip joints were so stiff they'd often get dislocated from his body during simple attempts to reposition them. His jaw was a simpler joint system that was too weak to hold it in any position other than falling wide open, and his arms were so awkward to handle that they'd usually rip right off when attempting to pose them.
Still, I think they were mostly great sets that I wish LEGO showed more interest in replicating and iterating upon. I'm sure they can make some fantastic designs with the incredible pieces they have now. I guess we'll just have to see. At least these dinos got their time to shine when they fought giant robots in the first Brickmaster magazine!
You inspire me because I have Aspergers myself also and a lego (and Bionicle) fan. I look forward to checking out your books when I can (I like comics)
Thanks for hart and highlight
Me too! I also have Aspergers and I am a HUGE LEGO fan.
Dino Attack had such badass minifigs, I really loved the vehicles as well
Oh man those old dinosaur sets. I used those all the time for my builds especially the blue t-rex just because I loved the head and the body was such a cool idea to me. Hell the aquatic one even came into the pool with the lego boats from years before because it was a such a cool dinosaur to have!
I absolutely love the Lego Dinosaurs. I had a unlisted Jurassic Park/// set, it was a KB toys exclusive and was released right when they were going bankrupt. It was a double set that included two half Dinosaurs on a mounted stand (one Rex and one Spino), a collapsible tree, and a small camera crane. The mini figs were Johnny thunder, Steven Spielberg, two Animatronics operators, and a camera man.
I wish I still had it, but I was 5/6 and I played with my Lego, I didn't build it to display.
I have the same problem. I've got a bunch of old LEGO stuff from the early 2000s, but as the wee kid I was, I always took them apart shortly after building them. If I could go back, I'd tell myself to keep the instructions and separate the parts for reconstruction, later.
let us see

DUDE I love the Dino attack sets. They were and still are cool to me, i'm currently 19 and I'd still mess around with these sets. Not necessarily play with them but I would definitely set up different scenes. I truly love old Lego sets and it's a shame that we haven't seen things that are THAT cool now a days. The sets today are neat but they just don't feel the same as the old sets, they don't have the same heart as the old ones. I know it's weird to be like that about a toy line but I grew up with this stuff so I'm gonna get a little nostalgic with these old sets
I remember playing a weird browser game based off the dino-attack line on the elementary school computers. Ah, memories.
I'm so happy I found this channel and that you are doing this! As a massive Lego fan that has collected LEGO over the years from verious themes it is a joy to watch these videos and be reminded of the old themes that LEGO have made over its long history :)
I miss combination models and alternate build ideas that sets used to come with. Ironically (since it was the message of the Lego Movie) I don’t think they care if kids take apart and customise their own sets anymore. The idea that you can mix and match sets like those dinosaurs seems archaic now.
The iconic-ness of Tuttle the Turtle. Pure Genius.
“But I don’t see them using these molds much in the future”
Baryonyx: hold my fish
I would argue that the Lego dragon from 1993 should have been included in your chronology, it follows a similar template to what was used later in Dino Island. That aside, great video as is par for this series.
Oh dang.... I completely forgot that thing existed. D'oh. Well, that's just another thing to bring up in episode 13. That one's going to be a follow up episode where I bring up things that have come to light since I originally made these videos.
I hope someday Lego will make a Lego Jurassic Park 3 set that has the Spinosaurus model from Lego Jurassic World The Game. That'd be awesome.
Dino attack was my favorite back then when I was young cause it was nuts
Oh gosh... these were my first lego sets. I had all 4 of them, so much memories...
Am I the only one who thought the head patterns on the 2001 Styracosaurus were its actual eyes for a time when I was a kid? I surely can't be the only one.
Anyways, great work on the video, Nick. I remember owning the 2001 dinosaurs and loving customising and making my own monstrosities. I also remember getting the giant helicopter from the Dino 2010 line. Forgot how massive that set was. Also how much edgier the theme's younger American brother 'Dinosaur Attack' was.
Looking forward to your next episode on Lego Racers! I had some good memories with that theme. Especially the earlier Drome Racers waves.
I had one of those Duplo dino sets when I was a baby, I kept it through my whooole childhood, reusing the human and dino figures like cartoon characters in a forevergoing "series" of adventures, my cousin and I played with them every week until we where too old to keep playing like that wit toys.
I'm nostalgia sick now.
I like the 2001 Dinosaur sets because they remind me of old stop-motion dinosaur films and shows.
dino attack... I ATE. THAT. UP. as a kid. I SO wanted one of these awesome machines.... and did get my hands on the chopper. it was incredible~
This is just the HUGE naive dino nerd in me, but imagine if Lego had the urge to make a collab with Saurian and made two or three lego sets based on that game
It would be so cool!
I can rewatch Lego rewinds all day and not get bored of it
I always wanted one of the Dino Attack sets when I was a kid.
Fun story. A few days ago I watched your joke video on Galidor and noticed the Dinosaur 2001 line and wondered about it having never heard about it before
Literally the next day you upload this video
I agree on the Bricky builds. These classic Dinosaurs of the adventurers line and those construction figures were just so so good and reminds me of my childhood anytime I see them.
God how much I love these, you can’t stop them at all, they’re just so cool to watch
I really love the things the Jurassic world line is doing with dinosaurs these days with the new dinosaurs they are making, I especially love all the new variety recently.
I wholeheartedly agree that lego should do more brick built Dinos like the raptor from the dimensions set. They’d be able to do a lot less generic vehicles and give the sets much better price to part ratios.
Dino attack is legit one of my favorite themes. It is one of the most violent themes Lego has ever made, needlessly edgy and scary, and it...is...awesome. We will never see another Lego theme are edgy, militaristic, and violent as it ever again. Perhaps that's for the best but it will always have a special place in the minds and hearts of millions of Lego fans.
LEGO James Cameron's Avatar is now reality and we have an actual AMP suit with the giant sword. So that's now relevant again. 😁
Not gonna lie, Lego dino attack is definitely my favorite line they've made. Loved it as a child, and still enjoy it to this day. I still have the helicopter sitting on my dresser
I had a set from almost all of these series since the 90s I loved them as a kid. They where my favourite sets. Especially those modular dinosaur ones. I recently dug up the T-Rex one from a pile of legos.
Dino attack was VISIONARY. THE very best vehicles lego has ever created. They knew EXATLY what little boys across America wanted.
I loved those Dino Attack sets, they looked so badass.
I’ve been really enjoying these videos of LEGO rewind. It’s fun to look back at all these childhood sets and see how they’ve evolved over the years. I loved the Dino attack theme when I was a kid and I always wanted that helicopter but I was never able to get it. If you haven’t already you should try and do a knights kingdom one I have some pretty fond childhood memories of that theme.
This looks like a cool series! I love the LEGO dinosaur attack dinosaurs, they look so bloody wacky and cool
I absolutely love this series, nvr in my life have I gotten exactly what I want in a playlist. Pls continue to make more vids like these and i cant wait to see more of planet ripple
Oh, I will.
I was going to review Sonic Mania before this... then the Mania Plus leaks happened and I realized how dated my "Mania Vanilla" script would be as Plus will surely address some things I brought up. So yes, I am postponing the Mania review until Plus is released and I get to play that. Sorry, everybody. Until then, I'll keep uploading videos.
I also have a book of my own.
Nick on Planet Ripple you’re on the zeta boards speculative evolution forum!
Yes. I was hoping to find an audience there for my "Beast Wars future" fancomic, but it hasn't really been noticed yet.
you don't have to apologies we understand we will keep watching your content no mater what it is about ( or at least i am )
I LOVE THE OLD SONIC GAMES THERE BETTER THAT MODERN SONIC
I still have those baby dino's from the 90s! Never knew where they came from, I just remember having them. Also, dino attack had a super cool online flash game
The people who made those JP MOCs spared no expense.
Dinosuar attack was my childhood.
Does anyone remember the Dino Attack internet game they had? I believe you drove around the map in a little jeep technical thingy and blasted them with lasers lol
Just love these series, keep it up
I haven’t bought Lego sets since I was a kid but I recently bought the Jurassic park Trex paddock attack set and it’s amazing to display
I remembered thinking back then when the set was first released that dino attack was the first lego dinosaur set I’ve discovered in this old generation, before I discovered that there was more sets by the time I joined the Jurassic Park / dinosaur figure community on UA-cam.
I've always wanted to get my hands on that brick built Mossasaur.
Got the Spinosaurus for the Studio Jurassic Park 3 set, got hold of it when I picked up a contain full of Lego bricks at a thrift store with peace's for the tree build but no plane. There was all so some early 2000 type Star Wars sets from the Tie Fighter, Clone Wars V - Wing, an a Boba Fett ship. Did pick up some of the dino's from the first Jurassic World movie, pretty cool an the youngest of my nieces and nephews have had some fun playing with them.
This series is very good. It makes me feel nostalgic
I remember as a kid those canister dinos looking so weird, though the old star wars creatures have a soft spot in my heart
Dino Attack will always be my favorite theme.
I thought I had scored big when I I saw these loose Lego Jurassic park figures being given away for the price of shipping and handling. I placed an order for a raptor and a T-rex. When they finally arrived they were cheap knock offs and the T-rex was the size of the raptor. I guess it really was too good to be true
I got that chopper for christmas when I was about 8 or so. To this day it is my favorite set of all time.
Thinking back, as of the toa ignika onwards, there some seriously dark stuff in the story. Heck, as early as the toa metru line, things got dark. And I freaking loved it.
i loved the dino attack! i was only 7 but i was really into COD and other FPS video games i’d watch on youtube and such so the minifigs naturally looked amazing to me and i had to have them!
I had the DA T. rex as a kid and it scared the hell out of me
Loved those Dinos in the boxes as a Kid and still have them
says indoraptors mold wont be used again
lego:
makes baryonyx therizinosaurus
I had one Dino Attack set. Only one. It was that big tank thing with the giant dart gun mounted on the top. It was a cool set, shame I only ever got that one. Oh well, still interesting to stumble upon the pieces to it scattered within my collection every now and then. (The green dart stands out especially well, not to mention the huge frikkin' T-Rex.)
Hey, that LEGO DUPLO T-rex there in 1:29 looks pretty good if you think about it.
Gotta love that classic green one!
dude this video was awesome. i've always wanted to see lego videos on youtube that were bases on the old themes!!
based***
waitbutwhat? Thank you. There are 9 other episodes if you wanna catch up.
The whole Dino Attack toning down was kind of silly. It forces me to get extra sets to complete the Dino collection. The Designer Set T. rex was the biggest but the joints are horrible for holding poses. One of the weirdest Dino’s is that orange one in the Studios polybag. Very strange color. After I read Jurassic Park I was eagerly awaiting a movie and LEGO sets. I couldn’t believe LEGO had never made Dino’s and I had to wait a long time - basically the 90s before we got something. This was a really good overview of most of the Dino themes.
I loved every single dino set, I didnt have many but I always built them with online instructions.
This was the golden age of LEGO. It has stagnated since the early 10‘s
*still better than UA-cam rewind*
I had the 2010 creator crocodile set that could also be built into a trex and I loved the hell out of it as a kid
Now that I found the instructions again it looks extremely goofy but it's still charming
I fondly remember the 2001 Dinosaurs constraction line. Good times!
As someone who lives in Europe, when I saw the Dino Attack sets I thought they looked familiar but something was off...
Then you showed the censored EU versions and I was OHHH I REMEMBER NOW I HAD ONE OF THOSE
Thank god it is here
I *loved* Dino Attack as a kid. I had the Iron Predator, always thought its missile launcher was the coolest.
2:35
Me and the boys playing with lego while our moms talk down the stairs
I’m definitely the hunchback dimetrodon
The Dino Attack sets looks pretty aggressive but the Dino theme were AWESOME 🤘🎧😎.
Dinosaurs have always been fun LEGO themes.
I have all my old sets. Parents wouldn't let me but Dino Attack and I was running out of room in the basement long before Dinos, so it's mostly the oldest stuff.
I have really missed these videos
How did I miss this! 😔😞
Nick, love your videos, but partially hate you cause of this one, seeing those Dino Attack sets I always saw when I was a kid but could never get, I just ordered some off ebay on impulse xD. Great video man, keep up the good work!
Ooooooohhhh boy, I don't know if I can wield this power responsibly.
Dinosaur attack had ABISMAL DINOSAURS!!
But the vehicles....OMG the Vehicles were AWESOME!!
I remember playing this top down shooter flash game of Dino Attack on Lego.com when I was little and I really wanted the sets, but could never find them in stores. This was most likely because this happened around 2007/2008 but the sets were from 2005, unfortunately.
Dino Attack was my childhood. Bought every set and destroyed my Lego cities with alien mutant dinosaurs and military officers who knows how many times back in the day.
