    A lot of comments on how much is going on each truck. It would be good to here from someone that knows why the truck appear not to be fully loaded.

      Our weight limits are 80,000 pounds here in Mississippi and you gotta keep in mind that is steel they are loading and it doesn’t take a lot to hit the weight limit. This video is deceiving because the metal and the crane are a lot larger than what appears on screen when you watch it.

      I think it's just because if they pack it in it won't dump out. Weight doesn't look to be an issue.

      So here is my experience with scrap. I know I’m almost a year late.... what they are loading is called bushling. I can almost guarantee you they are no where near 80k. We loaded 70 yard trailers with that exact material and it would be loaded to the top and sometimes packed in with the grapple to get 88k here in Alabama. If Tim would have recorded them unloading HBI or pig iron then yes, 3 would be a 80k load.

    I used to live in East Liverpool Ohio right beside the Ohio River and I spent many many many of hours cat fishing with bread and chicken liver around those big barge's. You can't really know how big those things are until you are right beside them. Great bass fishing early in the morning when the fog is still on the river. Have a good one taters ✌️🤘 👍

    Last time I was there it was Kinder Morgan that had that. When I was working for a contractor at Thyssen Krupp we shipped a bunch of scrap up there that had some big chunks in it. The folks that are doing the hauling was afraid to have them drop the material in their beds so we packed up our trucks and had to show them how it’s done!!

    Awesome machines! We have one mounted on a barge. It has a 22 yard bucket on it for unloading coal. It takes a little over a hour to unload 1500 tons. So that’s why the boat is sitting there. They switch out barges very often. And many of the boats have to move the barges up or down river if the company doesn’t have a winch system. Cool video.

    • @cotontop3

      They have a pretty big holding area about mile south of here where they’ll tie off and swap out 30-40 barges. They move them back and forth from there

    Where I'm at there's a lot that they do basically the opposite of this. The local scrap metal recycling company brings everything that comes off their big ol metal shredder to a lot in downtown in dumptrucks and they dump it out on the ground there and one of those big material handling excavators picks it up and piles it into rail cars to be hauled off to wherever.

    The sheet piling the barges are tied to could be used to repair the leaking dam.
    The hydraulic cylinder connected to the counterweight is the one which moves the arm carrying the clamp back and forth through the upper beam. The funnel is connected to the crane with 2 beams to keep it a set distance from the crane. The big reel on the funnel side of the crane is the electric cable for power.
    Interesting operation.
    Has anything been done about the damaged bridge?

    • @Rickimusic
      @Rickimusic 4 роки тому +1

      It could but, when you drive those sheet piles, the vibration would more than likely liquefy the dam and whoosh. On the dam is another issue. Looks to be like a huge leak at the over flow. Watch Tim's last video and you can see the water is a foot below the over flow but water is still coming out the outlet. The shattered concrete also shows a rather big sink hole and another dam compromise.

    • @royreynolds108
      @royreynolds108 4 роки тому

      @@Rickimusic There are two ways to drive the sheet piles diesel or steam hammer or vibratory hammer. The vibratory hammer is the one to more than likely create soil liquification problems as that is how the driving is done. Drop, steam or diesel hammers don't vibrate the ground with enough frequency to liquify it. I have been around driving piles with a steam or diesel hammer but not a vibratory hammer.
      Driving sheet piles has been used many times to create a dewatered area for constructing bridge piers in water. When finished the piles are pulled but sometimes are left in place, depends.
