    Protip: Get a little plastic sandwich baggie, stretch it over your index finger, and use that finger to smooth out the contact cement after applying it with the little bottle. It's much easier to use your finger to get an accurate spread around your piece, and when you're done you can throw the baggie away and not have to clean off your silicone brush.
    Using scrap EVA foam works well, but eventually your scrap foam gets gunked up with glue and it starts bonding to the piece you're actually trying to work on!

    i just started using contact cement, and i had the idea to use an oral syringe (meant for liquid medicine) as a container for getting glue out of the jar and also as an applicator!
    I tried it once today to test out the idea, and it worked great :D. I was even able to wash the syringe out and keep it for my next project.
    Also used a piece of scrap 10mm EVA foam to spread the glue into a nice thin layer

    I use little bottles that I got at Hobby Lobby and I love it. So much less messy to work with contact cement this way. I also bought a set of wood and metal clay carving tools and I use a wood paddle to spread the glue. Some of the metal tools work well for cleaning grooves cut in the foam.

    My contact cement doesn’t pour. It’s sticky like thick honey. Has it gone bad?

    • @CosplayApprentice
      @CosplayApprentice  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, if it gets that thick it has likely gone bad or gotten too old. It can still work, but not as effectively, and will be a lot messier and make it harder to get clean seams and stuff. You can get a thinner for it to try and reconstitute it but a lot of times it is just easier to get a new can/bottle. Hope that helps :)

    I actually snagged a bag full of small squeeze bottles @my local Goodwill - I was going to use them for pre-mixed paints for acrylic pours, but I like to mix my paint as I need it. I really should put my contact cement in them instead. I bought the can once, but could never get the lid back on tightly & it gooped up way faster than I could use it. I like the little bottles but most of the time the brush falls out of the lid!

    You showed how to apply it but not how to attach it every contact cement is different as sone you have to heat up and to hold it together or leave it over night ext. Thanks but I was hoping for full tutorial

    • @CosplayApprentice
      @CosplayApprentice  Рік тому +1

      Sorry, I guess I didn’t even realize that I didn’t cover that, I mention that part of process in so many of my videos that I think I just spaced it thinking I had already covered it.
      The humidity you live in can change things but for the most part you apply it to both sides of what you are gluing with a thin even coat, thin coat being key. I’ve rarely ever had it take more than five minutes to be ready to stick together. The way to know is that if press it gently with your finger and it it makes a tacky sound when pulling your hand away but doesn’t stick you your finger and pull away like melty cheese then it is ready to go. Some materials will absorb a lot of your first coat so I tend to do a thin coat and once it is set up, do a second thin coat before sticking them together. :)
      Lastly, if you wait too long to stick them together they won’t stick together very well, but you can simply run a heat gun across the glued surface to reactivate it and stick them together :)
      Hope that helps, sorry I didn’t cover it I. The video, I’ll have to redo that video and make it a full tutorial. I think I saw the most issues happening for people in the application process and putting too much on so I did the video to show an easy application process! :). Thank you so much for your comment and for watching! :) you rock!!!

    When is the best time to use a heat gun to mold ..before or after using contact cement . Will the heat make the contact cement gooey and cause my foam pieces to come apart ??? I've already glued some pieces and I'm afraid to use the heat gun on it 😩

    • @CosplayApprentice
      @CosplayApprentice  2 роки тому +1

      I like to apply my glue and then when it is ready to go heat up my foam avoiding hitting the glued edges with too much heat but a little is not a problem, and then stick the pieces together while the foam is hot/warm. That way it will hold the curve/shape you are putting into by attaching the pieces. :). Once you have them glued together. Give it just a little bit for the glue to set up and then you can heat up the foam again to add any more curve/shape you need to into it. :). Just avoid hitting the seams directly for too long and it won't affect the glue too much :)

    How do you clean out your squeeze bottles? Or do you bother?
    I use a lot of contact cement on boffer builds, but I honestly hate the stuff. It works really well, but it's such a mess! I haven't found a way to not get it all over my hands (I wear gloves, but I end up getting them stuck to my projects too). I like this idea, but I'm very curious about your clean up techniques, if you have any. Thanks!

    • @CosplayApprentice
      @CosplayApprentice  3 роки тому +1

      So I try to reuse the bottle as much as possible by only adding as much contact cement into it that I think I will use for the next day or two. If you do that it won't get all gunky and plugged up inside the bottle. The nice thing is is that if you way over poured and it ended up drying up on you before you could use it all out of the bottle, they are really inexpensive and so it is not a big hurt to throw it away. You can use contact cement thinner to reconstitute it too if it has gotten too thick in the bottle. So mostly I try not to be too wasteful with the bottles and make them last as long as I can but if they get too bad then I will throw it away if I can't yank the dried contact cement out. With pliers. :).
      P.S. little tip, it helps keep you contact cement longer if you use some plumbers tape around the threads of the bottle before putting the lid on. It helps get a better deal and stop the air from getting in as easy to dry it out. :)
      Hope that helped answer your questions. :). Can't wait to hear how it works for you! :)
