Walker is a perfectly good short-term "answer" for the Mets, if they don't land Alonso. Lest we forget, if the Mets re-sign Alonso he will be 34, 35, and probably 36 during the course of that contract. I want Pete back, don't get me wrong. But absent that, Walker is a great pickup on a relatively short-term contract. He's a good player (a better defensive player than Pete) and a good hitter.
No, it's honestly not. They have always favored Lindor over him and now Soto when he literally carried this team in so many moments. If they appreciated him the way they should, he would have been signed already.
@@waxpackbriefcase3673 Disagree. The Mets offered him a huge contract and he declined ($158 mil -- that is approaching Freddie Freeman's bottom line). Pete wanted to go to FA ... which is fine. Lots of guys, especially Boras clients, go that route. The idea that the Mets "don't appreciate him" makes no sense to me. Do the Mets appreciate Lindor? Heck, yeah. Lindor is great. But appreciating Lindor doesn't mean they don't appreciate Pete too. I think people just overreact to things, including this.
@@waxpackbriefcase3673 Why should he have “signed well before now?” I’m sure he’s trying to maximize his contract. I don’t think there is any reason that that any free agent “should sign” well before December 12. Lots of fee agencies drag into the spring. I don’t understand the “should” part of this.
I think it is a safe expectation that the Mets will get Vasil back. I think Lavender is likely gone, due to his injury and how that skirts the rules about recoupment. Which is too bad. I liked his potential.
The Mets need to publicly make an offer, how about 6 years/150 million...or maybe 7/175.....if he does eventually goes elsewhere, the fans know that the Mets did want him at a fair price.
Let's face it, when it comes to chemistry, STEARNS doesn't give a rat's ass. His MINI MARKET PHILOSOPHY and cheapskate attitude in BIG MARKET N.Y. comes first.
I don't know about that. The '24 Mets had possibly the best team chemistry of any Mets team I can recall. I think Stearns knows what he's doing. And, it is a little difficult to take the accusation of "mini market philosophy" seriously after the Mets just signed a FA for $765 million dollars. Not sure what "mini market" you shop at, but .....
Wish Pete was as patient at the plate as he seems to be waiting for a contract.
Having Soto could totally make him much better at the plate when he never had anyone that could protect him
LOL…so true
@@bxnym Nailed it!
Gelbs was an excellent and candid guest for this particular episode. His take on Pete, should be of some interest.

Yes Yes Yes we love the mets 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Come on,CHRISTIAN WALKER is 34 yrso old and not the answer. ALONSO is needed to make the lineup stronger and protect SOTO.

You guys are great on youtube and on the podcast
It's wild the offers were the same and he CHOSE the METS!!! lgm
Mets can't afford to lose Alonso at any cost. Switching him out for Soto may work on paper but Pete is the heart and soul of the franchise.
I hope Pete goes to a franchise that appreciates him.
Me too. And that franchise is the Mets.

Pete has expressed fully that he wants to be a Met. He should have been signed well before now.

Joc is my preferred DH candidate
Agree. Good hitter, good match.
Castillo, Manaea and Sasaki please
“Why’d the Mets sign Joc?”
Snaps fingers/points
“Because he gets on base.”

Sign Pete hes our homegrown star
Soto looking at 200 walks in 2025 without Alonso.

Mets still need 2 front line starters and 2 all star position players away from the NL pennant. That means another 400 to 500 million minimum. LGM
I think the Mets need one more big bat, hopefully it is Pete. And they definitely need more starting pitching AND help in the bullpen.
Sign Pete today! LFGM!
Joc would be great
Well that’s only Burnes lol
Don't lean too far sir 🤔🤣🤣
Some Yankee fan waiter will try and slip a banned substance into Soto's lemon iced tea this Spring.
Wow Gelbs really pessimistic about Pete returning. 😒
