- Oakland™ Holly - Christmas Tree Shaped Screening Plant🐦 - In this video I talk about and plant an Oakland™ Holly from the Southern Living Plant Collection. This low maintenance upright evergreen makes a great screening plant. It can get very large over time, but would be easy to maintain any size. It gets red berries in the winter and sports leaves that are dark green and are much less thorny than other holly varieties.

Beautiful holly
I'm starting to think more about using hollies and eleagnus than viburnums and cleyera, but I'll probably use all of them.
Hey Jim, do you prefer the Oakland or Nellie Stevens holly? They seem very similar. I live in zone 9B on the gulf coast.
Thank you for the info! I live in NY in zone 6. Are these deer resistant?
Great plant! Any in the garden center? Thinking about stopping by today or tomorrow.
No Oaklands available. I do have some Robin Hollies which I haven't covered. Very similar and super dark green foliage. They are also a southern living plant collection variety.
Great video. I live in zone 7a. What holly is the densest? Is Oakland denser than Nellie R. Stevens?
Do you have a video on Royal family holy?
I bought 3 how far apart ? how far to allow in the front ? like where you are pointing middle of stone walk looks 3ft away.
Is this the same as an "oak leaf" hollie?
Oakland is seedling / sport of oakleaf, similar but not exactly the same.
Would this work as a privacy screen in 3 hours afternoon sun, zone 7a?
Oakland Holly may have been planted to close to the house, they grow 10-20 wide, near same in height... oh well, the house was sold by Jim Putman anyway.
He said he controlled the size
With all we know about invasive species,it's a shame to see so many channels and landscapers pushing non native species and hybrids. We should be more responsible with the environment.
I agree. Close our borders
