Okay so SOMETHING broke while I was working on this and the footage somehow has MORE compression artifacts than the original footage. I THINK the problem was that I was still in point-filter mode when I corrected the aspect ratio, so I'm going to give it a second shot in a while. Might also grab the clip from Marc Laidlaw and the footage from the documentary (since it wasn't botched by UA-cam's compression) but know that I'm aware of the compression artifacts here and will be giving it another shot when I'm able to. Peace all 💜
A little bit, although unfortunately I seem to have caused some unintended extra compression somewhere along the way, so I'm going to give it another go in a little while.
0:40 I don't know why, but the animations of the metro cop fighting hand to hand made me think of New Vegas. Like, not just the coat making me think of the NCR Veteran Ranger Armor, but the stance he takes and the exact motions, the weight behind them, felt almost like the third person unarmed animations from FNV. Edit: Huh, didn't notice the crowbar at first.
I heard people say that the animations are also used in Garry's Mod, since Garry has Valve Repo access and it has been confirmed that a couple of things used in Gmod, like textures, were from earlier HL2 builds.
I wonder how many factors led to the footage looking and sounding how it did, would be a fun project to try to emulate messing around with codecs and such
I know Gary McTaggart commented on the official upload on Valve's channel saying it was recorded from the game in realtime onto MiniDV tape through an analog output from the computer running the game
the hope was that uploading at a higher resolution would help prevent UA-cam from botching the quality. Unfortunately in practice, it seems something was still lost in translation somewhere, so I may give this a second shot later.
It feels weird to ask at this point, but...Im sure you remember the vertigo mod you did. You know me as one of the people making a version of it on Coterminus(and sending you a build at the time.) Is it still fine to be working on that? I know the og mod trailer said "and all necessary files for making your own rendition of the mod are included in the download" but the comment you left on the E3 2004 Aesthetics post left me worried. Even with that the description said, I made sure to credit you in the readme I had written. apologies if this is wasting your time.
My Megabuild stuff's fine for people to use for their own projects since my work on there was made to be used as a base by others, and either way, I'm pretty sure I remember you already asking me for permission anyway. The comment I left on that e3 2004 aesthetics thing is over 11 months old, I don't know why there's been such a huge fuss over it recently.

its authentic
I don't think you know what you're doing.
@@gorgolyt Clearly I don't need to know what I'm doing since I already did it. We call that instinct, baby.
But still looks good

aaaa this feels so raw lol
the compression and decay actually gave it an unique style xd

somehow removing the green filter make it look even more like the minimalist mod.
GORDON. GET TV.
gordon. who are you. get out of the citadel.
I guess they weren't wrong about being beta accurate
It looks so weird without the green filter but incredible job
It's supposed to have the green filter to go with the toxic aesthetic the beta was supposed to have
@@Timeway26 Good, I'm not the only one who realizes that.
@@shogxn_official I'm developing my own beta mod since minecraft content is complete shit and I'm just not interested in it anymore

Crazy how much more it looks like retail now.

to be honest the fighting scene and the citizen body on the floor remind me of gta san andreas lol 😭
@@tecmaxxd i thought of that too lmao
Deus Ex vibes for me
For me, this reminds me GTA San Andreas fights. XD
Damn and i thought the green was apart of the video
good to know I'm not the only one that thought that
Pretty sure it IS supposed to be green. This just looks weird without it.

Put speed in 1.65 for fps correction (almost)
now we need to make audio restoration and make video have bigger resolution, as if it was recorded today
At least, that’s what i expecting when changed “Color Correction” to ON In “Advanced Video Settings”.
I didn't notice this before but goddamn does Alyx have a short jacket, that thing is like a crop-top jacket.
Now for someone to recreate this footage in either the HL2 retail game or the 2003 beta build.

@cynaraos that would do it, didn't catch that thanks
The beta without the green Matrix filter just feels wrong.
finally i can make out whats happening in the consul plaza map!
I only wish you'd cut the video to actual 4:3 so i could see how it would've looked on a CRT of the time.
The original video is basically the original NTSC analog video. All the black bars around it is the overscan area
@ fair enough, I recall that video of a computer graphics card failing is the same way.

you seem like you would watch Scropy.....
You may be right.
Why does this look like it was encoded at a ridiculously low bitrate?
It was recorded onto a camcorder from the late 90s
@dumbcatposter clearly not.
FPS correction when
the fps is correct, this is how it ran on the actual computer :V
