My 7 Income Streams Allowed Me To Quit My Job | On The Side
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 тра 2024
- Josh Ellwood, 28, quit his engineering job in 2021 to pursue his side hustles full-time. He realized that if he continued to advance in his traditional career, more of his personal time would be taken away from him. In 2021, Ellwood made about $189,000 from seven streams of income. Now, he works 3.5 days a week, and has made about $167,000 just this year. He lives near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with his wife and dog.

I Work 3.5 Days A Week & Make $189,000 A Year | On The Side
Whenever someone mentions multiple income streams it's always a UA-cam channel with things directly related to their UA-cam channel (Patreon, merch etc.)
Eaxctly
It’s becoming redundant! I’d like to hear from the non content creators. Pls
I’m like can we have a video were the person ISN’T a UA-camr 🙄
@@DrCareyYazeedTV exactly
That should tell that it can be lucrative. Multiple outlets to make money just off 1 platform
I wish CNBC Make It would stop covering mostly UA-camrs. I'd like to hear about other diverse types of income generating gigs.
So handsome. He looks just like his father. I’m sure his dad is smiling and proud
He seems like a decent enough person, but the stories earlier on in the Make It series felt more authentic and realistic. The fact of the matter is that it takes a lot of effort to be a successful content creator and most people won't succeed.
I agree!!! This is possible but they Never tell you the work and the challenges. He worked a lot of hours for few like 5 years and then he now works 4 hours for three days. Maybe he can help me with my Amazon and editing my videos
definitely. and i hope these folks realize you could make 6 figures in 2022 and in $0 in 2023. they better have good savings.
@@jones2277 that's true of anyone. If you have a traditional job, you could get laid off or injured, and end up with nothing. With his model, he has seven different streams of income. If one fails, he's still got six left. Plus the experience to adjust quickly.
@@Yeshanu if you have an unionized job, it's almost impossible to lose your job.
@@anoukc6928 unless your employer closes up and moves to another country. Or you get hurt and can't work. Or you suddenly need to become a caregiver for a disabled or I'll family member and your job offers no flexibility...
Unions are great, don't get me wrong. But not everyone can actually work at "regular" jobs, and even if they can, having multiple streams of income provides an extra layer of security.
these videos and the series covering peoples incomes used to be so good! it was inspiring to see the range of jobs in different fields and how people spend and hustle inline with the lifestyle THEY want.
Now this has just turned into more 'hustle culture' propaganda with the same roles and really high salarys that arent relatable. Such a shame 😔
well said!
You don't find this motivational???
@@artificialstyle998 his journey is 100% motivational. But the usp of this channel was the variation of stories and recently one video is pretty much the same as the next.. it’s not personal to the individual stories, but having the same (career) representation over and over gets jarring
I was beginning to think all Gen Zers don't have regular jobs and make money from youtube
@@tyrellcobb4665 Is that necessarily a bad thing? If it pays more than a 'regular job'.
Soooo the only way to make 6 figures is become a UA-camr and build other streams of income from your channel (sarcasm). Everyone featured in these stories are UA-camrs and these highlights just give their platforms an extra boost 🤷🏽♀️
Pretty much, it’s definitely not very motivating or informative if I’m being honest. I’d like to see more people who aren’t using social media more all of their income streams.
They probably pay this channel to make videos about them honestly
i agree it's nothing but advertisement of people social media pages.
Agreed. UA-cam can be very lucrative, but let’s be honest, it’s not something anyone can just pick up and be successful in. You need to have hundreds of thousands of subs to pull in a decent monthly income. This channel makes it seem like any regular person can do it, but you need to be very lucky and find a particular niche in order to be successful in YT
@@kevmur2014 That’s not true at all.
He bought a rental property that only cashflows $1,800 a year? This explains why it's so hard to find a good deal now
I really respect the fact that he values time spent with loved ones over making more money. He could probably make 2-3 times what he makes now if he worked more, but he chooses to spend time with his family. Smart decision.
I agree! Time is very valuable asset.
How to create multiple streams on income: have a successful UA-cam channel and branch off of it's success by selling courses on how to start a YT channel, do affiliate marketing, and sell stuff on Amazon!
Facts
Wow! He looks just like his dad! Congrats to him.
He's making about as much as any senior engineer without the 401k, health insurance, and long list of benefits that companies provide. Kudos for his hustle but his UA-cam income could drop any day.
But he probably enjoys his job a lot more necause its all his, within his control
It can increase exponentially any day also
Yea to have 7 income streams and still make under $200k seems counterproductive imo
@@MarvelousJP you have to think for the future. I guarantee his channel and products will see a spike just from this feature. And 7 streams doesn’t mean 7 separate jobs
@@biscaynesupercars I’m well aware that 7 income streams does not mean 7 different jobs, my point is he has all these income streams to make the same amount of money he could make with one stream in the field he was in prior to UA-cam.
Another UA-camr- how helpful.
Right? It's getting really boring
Same here
So tired of the drop shipping, ad rev, brand sponsor, etc
Right
Yup
Don't be afraid to bet on yourself! You got this 😀
💯
I was scrolling to see if you commented. Subscribing to learn how to quit my job and help impact people.
Yet another content creator, 🙃🙃how helpful
Absolutely
I respect the guy that you featured in this video as well as the other content creators that you have featured thus far. However, as a viewer, we need to see diversity in terms of the stories that you feature. A great majority of the people that you featured are content creators and truth be told, not everyone can be a content creator and the level of interest in this aspect is declining significantly. UA-cam as a platform has become very saturated content wise meaning the ones that joined the platform recently are having a hard time cracking the code so it's not inspiring a lot of people to be content creators as well as it did before. In terms of featuring people who don't work as much but earn a decent amount of money, you could possibly feature entrepreneurs like franchisees who do not necessarily need to be at the shop 8 hours a day since they have a Staff there and sales and operations can be monitored remotely...... just to cite an example of a possible content.
My thoughts as well.
Film your own show
CNBC making commercials for Amazon FBA.
Please feature way less of these influencers.
CNBC needs to change this channel to "CNBC MAKE IT AS A CONTENT CREATOR"
it agree, it's getting repetitive they just find youtubers
To people complaining about the influx of content creators, I say this: take a look at what they were doing before this. This guy has an engineering degree. That is a well playing job out of college. He started a side hustle in 2018 & quit his job completely in 2021, which means he was already planning & stashed away lots of money to plan a smooth seamless exit. We should start wondering how we can grab a lucrative & necessary career so we can try to be FI younger and/or be more in control of our lives
Exactly!
Was just about to write something similar! There are tons of people upset that they either "can't" or "won't" do what these people have found to be successful--which is pitiful. I seen a comment"this isn't reliable. He could make $189k this year and $0 next year". And so can they working for somebody else. It's all about mindset!
@@ItsNerradT I agree. In today’s society a lot of people have an “expectation without effort” mentality.
The irony is everyone who features in how I make multiple Incomes are mostly UA-camrs who make content about how to make multiple incomes.
They are no different than Robert Kiyosaki who wrote a book to teach people how to get rich but he becomes rich for writing the same book.
Seems like everyone is hating on this guy but love Graham stephan who also makes most of his money from youtube
Good to see his taking care of his mom!
Respect!
I think you have the right values, and the right objectives in life. Good job
How about people that are not content creators?
I really enjoyed this video, as well as Josh's vibe (granted, I'm biased because I'm also a content creator...). I like what he said at the end, that it's important to understand when enough is enough, financially or related to your time. Good on you Josh for thinking ahead, knowing you wanted to prioritize your family and time in the future, and therefore starting side hustles in your free time besides your full-time job. I'm glad they are working out for you because I imagine at the start they took up a ton of time. And your first 8 products failing, that must have been frustrating. So kudos for pushing through, learning from your failures, and ultimately finding what works. I'm sure your dad would be proud of you, and really cool to see you play golf with your grandfather. 😀
This is so good. I love it! We are here for a good time, not a long time. Prioritizing himself and time with his family is priceless. Some of these jobs will work you into the ground. Very dope episode
Great episode. Pretty cool how much he values his time with his loved ones. He golfs every week with his Grandfather. That's pretty awesome
SO HIS STORY IS REALLY ABOUT NOT ENDING UP LIKE HIS FATHER💯THAT FEAR HAS MOTIVATED HIM AND DRIVEN HIM TO SEE WHAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT IN LIFE ❤A YOUNG MAN THAT SEES HOW PRECIOUS AND SHORT LIFE IS, IS A VALUABLE LESSON TO ALL.
too much youtubers in "making it", this is 0.0001% of the workforce
Weak. I work 2 days a week with my 15 income streams. I answer my sales calls during shower while listening to Tony Robbins motivation talk.
Yikes! Comment section is harsh on this one.
Good guy with great values overall. Kudos!
But, for the average person, with the Great Resignation and Next Recession here:
What are those people doing on the side to support themselves?
Enough with the UA-camrs/influencers already. Is that the only people you can get to agree to do these videos?
At this point, everyone should just try UA-cam or TikTok instead of college. If it doesnt work out, you can always go back to campus
Engineering seems like a really good field to go into. Probably better than accounting/finance.
Engineering is better in terms of value to society and greater understanding of the world. In terms of how you are treated by corporations, accounting/finance are treated like gods and engineers are treated like dogs.
Engineering is extremely lucrative but hard work.
Just lots of time in front of a computer either way
The US government has engineering jobs besides private industry.
What a mature young man. Congrats to him!
Good achievement. Good finding his form of success and his form of life enrichment.
Income (earned)
Investments (unearned)
Intellectual property (music, books, inventions)
Gifts (From groceries to a whole house)
Media (UA-cam)
Feeder schools (skills from top ranked schools)
My list of income streams.
Thank you for this. Will definitely reach out to her now. Thanks again
I genuinely don't understand how he makes that much from UA-cam. He has around 60,000 subscribers, which isn't a ton. It's not like his videos are getting hundreds of thousands of views.
Also confused. 61.3k subs, averaging 3-5k views a vid. I don’t think that adds up personally.
Don't be another youtuber video, don't be another youtuber video.... dang
for me it's $110K 14 hours of work 6 days a week education level only high school diploma
7 STEAMS OF INCOME: from Everyday except thursday, plus he takes half a day off on friday
from 8am to 12-2 am
1. UA-cam = 43% of all income comes from this = 82k
2. Amazon store= 14k
3. Patreon = 33k
4. Fiver= 29k
5. Affilicate marketing (Jungle Scout) = 29k
6. Rental Property 1.2k
7. Dividens 600$
Good for him. There are tons of people upset that they either "can't" or "won't" do what these people have found to be successful. I seen a comment "this isn't reliable. He could make $189k this year and $0 next year. UA-cam is not stable.” You know what’s also not stable (in reality), your 9-5 working for somebody else. Find your own form of success and life enrichments. It's all about mindset!
This is very true and a real lesson for a lot of Gen Z.
Why does it seem like all these types if videos are sketchy. This guy has under 60k subs and most of his videos dont crack 5-10k views. This sounds too good to be true like so many ither videos like this.
They’re 100% overexagerating their spendings. It’s crazy bc UA-camrs don’t even last that long either their career or engagements can drop within a few months
Me: wow! 7 streams of income!
Him: Soo my first income is UA-cam
Me: Oh, another UA-camr
Love how he has many different streams of income.
Realistically, UA-cam is Not as easy as it looks, not everybody is going to make different streams of income from UA-cam and Patreon. You’ll get 3 if you’re lucky
Fantastic!!!! This is the life I would love to live! Making 6 figures with less time!
Thanks for this.. Don't be afraid to bet on yourself
I think this is a good decision on a personal level - good for him - because working a corporate career can really wear you out and destroy you in the long run. However, having an amazon shop and being a youtuber teaching people how to run an amazon shop is not purposeful work. Imagine everybody becoming an amazon shop owner and youtuber, and nobody left doing the real jobs - our society would fall apart. So, although he found his niche there to avoid the hard work, which will be good for him I guess - society still needs doctors, scientists, nurses, lawyers, teachers, caretakers, carpenters, etc. He is certainly not a role model, except for escapism and "taking the easy path".
UA-camr, podcaster, onlyfans, tik toker etc working 2 days a week making 200k a year.. don't become a nurse, teacher or mechanic etc those jobs are low pay and mentally degrading you get 0 respect ..
Good for him. Freeing himself from the rat-race to prioritize his family will make one less divorce in the world.
i think it's wonderful that his dream is to start a family.
Yes, a UA-camr, it's not 7 independent income streams, anybody with a following Will get money from ads or selling products, affiliates, etc....
He has a really good attitude.
Stop featuring people who’s main income comes from UA-cam and UA-cam related platforms
Went from being an engineer to selling phone cases from China and making videos about it. What an inspiration.
Very American
Another unrelatable video about a rich UA-cam celebrity. How can we be sure that he didn't pay to be in this video so he could promote his own channel?
So $83,000 from UA-cam. He has around 50k subs. His recent (Sep 2022) videos have really low views. Either this is a BS number or the UA-cam algorithm rewards people who “teach” other people to make money! I'd say its the former.
I'm from Australia, I and two others of my friend's tried him immediately we testified, shes performing wonders
Always youtube 🙄
I’m hoping to be like him one day especially since my 9-5 has been stressing me out this year! 😒
Doing it right by having multiple streams of income, but isn`t it kinda awkward that around 7,45% of your annual income comes from actually selling on Amazon FBA? When most of your income streams revolves around how to sell on Amazon FBA? I mean, if you`re going to teach people on how to sell there, a major part of your income should come from selling physical products.
Seems like a cool guy, the blown dunk made me laugh.
He apparently had a successful Amazon business but he ended up selling courses about how to build a successful Amazon business... 🙄
There's more money in selling the dream 😁
This is just an ad to promote his social media pages, I wonder how well he would do if he had no internet.
This whole “seven streams of income” thing is overplayed and inauthentic. This is not “on the side” either
Being a successful UA-camr is incredibly difficult. I’m writing this as someone who’s been through that. This “content creator” stuff is not as easy as it seems. This episode was complete BS.
Absolutely
I agree.
I ❤️ his lifestyle.
Inspiring story!
Its not 7 streams if theyre reliant on UA-cam
Another UA-camR? it's 2022, by now SNS shouldn't be considered a side hutle.
He was making $110k as an junior Engineer. He could've almost tripled that amount if he did freelance Engineering gigs, + the 401k, health insurance, etc that his company probably offered.
He was on-site 12 hours a day 7 days a week for 4 weeks at a time :). No, he wouldn’t have time to freelance lol.
This looks to be more petroleum engineering. similar industries I assume would still follow the 3 weeks away from family long hours model.
This is just not worth it. He was working 12 hours a day 7 days a week for like two weeks at a time. That’s just not sustainable.
Working 12 hrs/day for 7 days a week is outrageous. I don't care how much money you're making you would've quit also. That's not sustainable and it's dangerous to your health.
Ngl, I want a custom neon sign with my channel name so I can be like him. That’s sweet👏🏾
His lifetime views is less than 3million if I consider 10 dollar per 1000 views (which is more than average in us) then 30000 dollar is his lifetime income. But he told his yearly UA-cam income is 83k . Didn't got the math here is his cpm is very high
Most of it was probably from brand deals
Congratulations!
Very motivation video my friend 😃
What a sweet man - respect!
Another guru
What all know what it takes and have the same opportunities…these type of folk take action. That’s literally the difference
Wait was mom sitting in the front seat. I know this is about finances and I'm not a relationship expert, and idk if this was just to show how much he loves and value family (which you should) but if not mom needs to cut the apron strings and he may need to set some boundaries.
Read the 4-hour wear week by Tim Ferris.
Which would you rather have? 200k per year and work 40 hours a week 52 weeks a year? or make 40k a year and work 4 hours a week?
Id take the time and loose the money. MONEY < TIME
He can hoop fr too!
TIME IS SOMETHING NO AMOUNT OF MONEY CAN BUY💯
nice video thank you for sharing
Second aye !!! But that cool that the goal to have at 5 streams of income have 2 streams of income so far
Pure gold
You look a lot younger now than before :)👍👍👍
I need friends like this.
And nowadays people are like I own an agency, I earn through affiliate & brand promotions😂
If anyone's wondering, his number of UA-cam subs is 67K, so his $82K UA-cam earnings are better than I thought for that number of subs. I think money/debt/side-hustle channels have a higher pay per click rate, from what I've heard.
Yeah, the click rate is dependent on the topic in question - money management/investment channels make the most, I believe. Music channels are probably the lowest.
I like this series, but I want to see a wider range of income unrelated to UA-cam, like in the early days. I like seeing people live their dreams and making a great income, but the UA-cam repeats is becoming stale for my taste. Still love the channel, but eh.
What is the song at 0:23 ?
I want my time as well.
Good for Josh I have a regular person job.
I work 2 days a week and earn $999,999 / year
These unrealistic titled videos need to stop
Respect
inspiring
1st job out of college 100k? What a sucker I am
@1:30 he didn’t count business expense and tax. Hey, btw, he made just only 13k from selling his merchandise in Amazon but made 82K by teaching his business tips in UA-cam. 6 times more than Amazon profits.
WE WANT VIDEOS WE CAN RELATE TO!!
NO MORE UA-camRS!!!!
