Kari, I have watched a good number of your videos. I have found them interesting and informative. I am very much a conservationist, so I lean towards "green" death care, but I am not a tree hugger, and I have found you to be very helpful and I appreciate the obvious care you have of the people you work with and the respect for the deceased. I am an organist and choir director so perhaps shared ministry is one of the reasons I feel a connection to you. Thanks for being a good teacher and/or mentor to so many.
Omg the drain thing, I thought I was the only one!! I haaate them. I became a hospice volunteer after my grandma passed away to be able to be there for the dying when they have nobody as I was the only one with my grandma when she passed. People should have someone there that wants to be when it's time to pass on.

I am certainly one of your serial watchers. Your honesty and straight forward sense is wonderful. My career was in real estate as a Broker, retired for 3 years now and my loves are my husband of 48 years and my 8 grands!!
This is a really cool video Kari! Nice to learn a little more about you! I’m an Event Planner and have a personal interest in death and death care. Your channel is such an AMAZING resource of knowledge!!
Oh Kari, I just found you a few weeks ago and I am so obsessed! I’m 64 years old and have always been interested in mortuary science. I always kept it to myself so I wouldn’t freak out my peeps! Oh how I wished I had perused your vocation. I confessed to my hubby the other day and he looked at me and said “don’t tell me anything because I don’t want to anything about that”. He wasn’t mean about it but I think I shocked him to death! But now I can watch your videos and get my knowledge from you and Little Miss Funeral and nobody knows!! Hearing you talk about your “14 unknown things” I see we have a lot of things in common especially ORGANIZATION! I am a crafter and have a really nice room that I am constant reorganizing along with my whole house....I spend a lot of time thinking about organization and sometimes I’m so organized that I can’t find something (believe it or not). I scroll thru UA-cam looking for your videos but feel I’m missing a lot of them. How can I get more of you? What do you suggest for me to view? I understand if you can’t respond because I’m sure you are busy. Thanks for listening to me. I’m your #1 groupie in Clearwater, Florida. P.S. I’m not fond of the water either. I know Jaws is looking for me. Hugs to my new friend! Sheri
Our granddaughter was six months away from being an OBGYN. She decided she wanted to be a forensic scientist. SO she is in her last year of law school. She wants to find out why people died by working COLD cases for police departments. Needless to say I was disappointed in her choice to want to work with the dead and not the living---however it is her choice. She called her grandfather and I to tell us of her change while in her last few weeks of schooling. We are very close to her---we have helped her along with her parents to make sure she has no bills for school. Medical school has been expensive---lol Law school not so much---LOL She will graduate in a few months and has already been offered a job with a coroner's office upon graduation. I LOVE following along with your channel. You are a wonderful person. Bree loves to skydive, she likes a lot of things you do---!!!! When she graduates she will be going to Italy for a few weeks. Our friends own a villa there so she will be staying there for awhile, it is on the beach. Thank you for sharing your personal life with us.
I LOVE Boston Terriers! I lost my sweet Boston last year and I miss her more then words can say. They are incredible dogs when it comes to giving comfort for sure...
I can't get over how much alike we are! I, too, HATE trying on clothes! I love to watch what my husband calls "slice n dice", meaning all things serial killer and forensics. Also, I always have been drawn to and fascinated by the funeral industry. Always wished i had gone into the field! I'm 68 yrs old and drove a school bus for 26 years. Thanks for all you do to give understanding on what you do!
This was fun, Kari! One thing unique about me is my memory is great. I remember names and especially dates. It’s almost embarrassing because I may remember an old friends’ birthday and they’re like, “I haven’t seen you in years”! Ya, don’t be flattered.... I remember everybody’s! Lol
I wish you could be there for me when that time comes! 😢 Yes, when I could shop I despised to try on clothes and I would return ...but now I order. Hugs to Kari💖
Hi, Kari! Oh my gosh, I hate trying on clothes, as well! With me though, I can pretty well guess just by looking at the garment how it will fit and look on me! I guess that it is a gift 👗👚👜 Another interesting fact about me is that I absolutely love all green veggies and salad! I get insane cravings for broccoli and green beans. Go Figure... This is just me 🤔
Hi Kari! Although I’ve never written a comment to you before, I am a true fan.. first, you are just a delightful person. and second, you are so matter of fact about the funeral business and unafraid of answering the most bizarre questions some of us may have! Let’s face it - we are all fascinated by death and dying. I would have made a great funeral director, although embalming is another matter - but I am told I am naturally empathetic, and I have helped what seems like countless friends through the loss of a loved one and with planning services. For one thing, I was the parish administrator at an Episcopal church in San Francisco during the AIDS epidemic where we sometimes conducted four or five funerals a week.. which indirectly brings me to my question(s): We are now all obviously in the midst of this global pandemic, which is bringing back some suppressed memories of the AIDS crisis only on a larger scale. How is this affecting your work? Are you concerned for your personal safety any more than usual? Have you yet noticed an increase in the number of death calls? If, say, a family wants to view their loved one, do you still allow it within the 10 people per gathering and social distancing rules? Has there been any instances that you know of where the funeral director stood at the back and allowed people in as others left so they could have an actual visitation? Also, how long could an embalmed body be kept? Assuming refrigeration, could it theoretically be weeks or months and still be viewable? Your videos make odd thoughts go through my head! FYI, know that I am a charming and formerly handsome 72 year old gay man battling cancer, blessed with a 27 year relationship with the love of my life. I can’t believe that I’m at the point of making pre-arrangements and worrying about my partner - although I’ll tell you that I’m tough and my friends say I’ll outlive them all! Your videos (and life experience) have made it very clear in my own mind about my wishes - sadly for my beloved, there will be no disco balls! Thank you for what you do, and for the way in which you do it! Your not-so-secret admirer, Eric Simpson Neotsu, Oregon
Cool video Kari. I am a saver, not a spender. I am a CA Real Estate Broker. I love the coast. I hate cold weather. I love gardening and I have an awesome succulent garden in my entire front yard. My side hustle is selling my plants. I am truly blessed.
Kari, I find it humourous that given what goes on in a prep room, a room that has plenty of drains/flush sinks & all, that you have a fear of those objects. And thanks again for sharing some personal details about yourself.
@@KaritheMortician Kari, have you ever been in the back of house in a restaurant or college cafeteria? They have something in the dishwashing areas called a grease trap. Captures all the residual fats from plates and cookware. The smell makes decomposition smell like Chanel no. 5. It's vile and the sight of what's inside is even worse.
This may be one of the best of yours I've seen. I also have a terrific memory of details of other people. The quirk of that is I don't let on that I know some detail of there life, but drop little hints in conversation.
Thank you for posting I love you whole demeanor. You are beyond professional with great kindness in your heart I wish you could be here no doubt hands down I would service.
So fun Kari. I can remember small details about people who I have only briefly met too. I thought I was the only one who had this "talent". I don't even "try" to remember the details, it just sticks in my head.
I'm a middle kid !! I'm not organized at all !! LOL !! I do have a curiosity of the funeral industry, and have done the cosmetics and hair on some loved ones as well as customers that had passed, since I was a licensed cosmetologist !! I absolutely hate trying on clothes !! Thank God for on line shopping !! I call my self a serial watcher, or maybe a committed watcher of Your videos !! Thank You, Kari for just being You !! Kari, here's my short take on you. You are very interesting to watch and listen to. Your attractive, and you have that smoothing voice. I'm very interested in the funeral business, but at 69 years young, and married with no children of my own, probably a little late. Money is a consideration. I've been involved with photography, since the early 70's. I've done retail, wholesale and professional photography. I've shot for a professional sports team, as their team photographer. I've also shot for another professional sports team, as a stringer. I've been up in hot air balloons, 3 times. I took flying lessons, and was ready to take my tests for a pilots license, but ran out of money. Single engine fixed wing and gear aircraft. Piper aircraft. I've been a photographer, in the pits and the track, for auto racing. I've done much more. Hope this helps. Thank you, for what you do. I forgot to add, that I taught color and black and white, film developing and printing. Won awards for my photos and printing.
Kari, you are amazing, Your husband has to be a very lucky man, you are intelligent, very learned and informative, and have a very pretty face to look at not to mention your million dollar smile! Don't ever quit making your videos!
I am currently at Guide Dogs For The Blind training with my fifth dog. I am from Texas, and I hate rain. I hit avoided coming to Oregon because to a Texan when you say rain, it means monsoon, Oregon rain is actually pleasant.
Hi Kari: The last few months I have watched you tube videos instead of regular TV. I learn and enjoy it more than the nonsense on TV. I think I'm up to date on all your videos because you are informative without being morbid. I don't understand why I find information about the funeral industry interesting. You responded to a question regarding my husband and why he looked so different at his viewing. Fact about me: I'm 71, retired and spent most of my adult life going to college while working first in a hospital and then in adult education. Can't think of particular quirks except, driving in the mountains. It scares me because I don't want to fall off. I don't live by any mountains so it isn't an ongoing problem. The other fear I have are mice. They are cute but gross. I've had many a cat bring me one, only to freak out. I'm a grandmother of two boys. My oldest went to heaven almost four years ago and the younger one is 13. I'm sure you know, losing a child or grandchild is something that changes one's life forever. Love your station. Bless you
Hey Kari, thanks for sharing fun facts with us. "BIG FISH" is a great family favorite of ours. Just re-watched it a few days ago for the umpteenth time. I hope y'all are doing well in these unusual times.
Yay! This was so fun! Bring on the "wacky personal facts!" I'm pretty newly separated myself (soon to be divorced), would love to skydive, I love the ocean but have trypophobia, my travel list is topped by Australia and New Zealand but also want to go to all the US states, I JUST LOOKED UP A STRAWBERRY SPROUTING AND IT RUINED MY WHOLE DAY, going to the movies alone is super fun... apparently I have more in common with my favorite funeral director than I thought!
We took a cross country trip in our minivan with our 2 teenage sons. We drove from Philly suburbs to California, stopping at different cool places along the way, we drove from LA to San Francisco and then drove home along the northern States. We've been to 45 States at this point. I'm originally from Scotland
On phobias etc. During a lecture a demonstration showed when children are being assessed chiropractically that they did better and were stronger with being held by mother. The comfort of significant others at times of duress can help as programming and strengthening.
I am also a middle child, older sister and younger brother, just like you! Other fun facts/details about me...I was born and raised in Maine but I absolutely hate, HATE all seafood, fish. Will maybe eat tuna once or twice a year. I do not like mountains, the twisty-turning roads scare me. I can remember the day I was in kindergarten and chose blue as my favorite color. I was a pallbearer for my own daughter's funeral. My dream destination...Dalrymple, Ayrshire, Scotland...the lowlands, naturally! Loved your fun facts!
I enjoyed your video, Kari, and even though I can't understand a lot of your fears I appreciate your willingness to share them with us. Listening to you made me think of one strange fear I had when using the bathroom in grade school, wondering what went on in there when no one was expected to be there during classroom periods. I'd be alone in the bathroom right after recess thinking l had five minutes before the place would be engulfed in flames - possibly to sanitize the place. I was just imagining things and hope you got a little laugh out of this. Again I appreciate your videos, you talk a lot but definitely not a chatterbox.
WOW Kari... very interesting. I always wanted to work in the death care industry and share the same fear and reason of the fear of being on the water and wooded, walking trail. Love doing my own grocery shopping and bringing the clothes home too. Thank you for sharing yourself with us ❤️
Thanks for sharing. It's been a hobby of mine to follow what happens in the funeral business. My dad nearly got into the business a LOONNNNG time ago. The first wake/visitation i ever went to, i was about 6 or 7 and it was for some friends of ours dad who had shot himself. It was very strange to witness what everyone was going through. Fascinated ever since. A unique think about me is that I have worked since the age of 5.......my brothers and sisters had a paper route and I would help with it. They took on a second route and it was twice the size of the first one. One Sunday morning, they were all sick, so my mom, dad and I went out to deliver the papers....and I was the ONLY one who knew all the houses.
I live in WI. Definitely go to Ireland. I did, it was amazing. I'm at a point, I'm making my final plans. Definitely cremation. It's hard as I have no family members. The siblings are estranged....long story. My Mom passed will be 8 yrs on Nov. 3. I was a hair stylist. I helped in getting her dressed, '& doing her hair. She looked like a queen. I so miss her. Love your videos. A lot I know because I've been to soooo many funerals. See you soon ....
I love animals, especially bunnies. I have 2 now. I eat tacos twice a week or I get grumpy. Ok, here goes. I'm scared to death of anything funeral related. I run if I see a hearse or I get jitters driving by a funeral home. When my parents passed I almost ran trying to pick something for dad. Mom was cremated so I didn't even go in. When I was little (from 3 on) if an aunt passed they would hold me kicking and screaming right up in her face to say goodbye. I also notice Southerners are touchy feely with the loved one. You are so cute and sweet!
Hi Kari , I have maybe too big a fear of heights to skydive. A man I know was a paratrooper in Vietnam and says it's not the fall that kills you , it's the sudden stop.
I do the same thing with buying and returning clothes! One weird thing about me is that condensation freaks me out, link in a water bottle or on windows...
When you can get to Italy, 2 hints to stretch your $$$... 1. Cheapest flights are into Rome, then you can take the high speed train up to Venice and work your way down to Florence, with local trains to Pisa, Lucca and other places in Tuscany, then back to Rome where (after touring more sites than you'll ever have time for...) you can get bus tours to Naples and Pompeii. 2. In early spring and late fall, you can get super deals on repositioning cruises from US to Italy (spring) and Italy back to US (fall)
We have lovely countryside in Wales too, such a shame you didn’t have the time to travel down the M4 motorway (Freeway) from London to Wales when you was over in the UK.
I am culinary TRAINED, I LOVE TO TRY DIFFERENT FOODS, EXCEPT MUSHROOMS AND LIVER. I LOVE To Spring grove cemetery, it's beautiful and quiet there. I like to travel. I would love to see an embalming and dressing the dead..I laughed when you talked about strawberry, mine are mushrooms. My favorite Movie is Top gun The school was founded on my birthday March 3,1969. And my birthday is March 3 .last but not leased is the fact that you take the time to answer back on your post
I love grocery shopping. My son is 22 and I have a bad back. So it's something we do together each week. We listen to an audiobook in the car and take turns choosing the next title. Do you keep a planner or a journal, Kari?
Totally agree with you!!! The holes thing!! I get so worked up about hair transplant pictures I make myself sick LOL!!!!!it s the most disgusting thing ever!!!! 🤮
I hate trying on clothes at the store as well! (Mostly Meijer and Walmart) My husband always yells at me lol 😂 I fear being outside alone as well. I love watching your videos and I’m so glad you share so much with us and are so open, I have a morbid curiosity (as my hubby calls it) about death and what comes with it.
Also, I am sure you heard of the Jessica Heeringa case here in Muskegon, where she came up missing from her job at a gas station in 2013. Since you’re big in forensics, have any thoughts on her case?
I just listened to the Crime Junkie podcast episode on that and learned even more than what I had known during the events. I wish they could find her body to lay her to rest but that have gotten the man which is amazing
I wish he would give up her location... I know someone who personally knows the man who did it and she has not liked him since their younger years, she raised his biological daughter as her own as she was best friends with her mother.
one thing major for me where my kids even tease me is theres like wet earrings or jewelry left on the counter in the bathroom absolutely grosses me out! my daughter left her earrings in the shower and i literally freaked like my fingers and the bottom of my feet were tingling....ehhh😬
Kari, I have a fear of crowds...I don't attend concerts, sporting events and gatherings of large amounts of people, because I suffer from panic attacks! It is referred to as agoraphobia!
hey kari thanks for sharing i dont try clothes on either i return a lot lol i was wondering if you answered my questions and i missed it the first one was what is the cement slab on top of the ground in grave yards is it the vault the second is does the vault have a plug in it that you take out so water can come in or is it dry and sealed i saw where caskets were floating in the water in floods that would be terrible thanks so much.
A place I would someday like to visit is Switzerland. I like weird foods, pickled cow tongue, pickled eggs, beef liver, beef hearts with gravy over mashed potatoes, just to name a few. My fear has always been of dying in a car crash. I am 60 yrs old, I am married and have two adult sons. My favorite movie is The Green Mile, I enjoy quietness, reading, going for walks, my fur babies, two dogs and two cats, shopping at thrift stores and garage sales, and watching your videos! :)
Very cool video. I’m the same about trying on clothes. I dreamt of being a funeral director ever since my Gran died when I was 15. My uncle Ken was a funeral director and I found it so fascinating his stories. He has since retired and it still interests me but having a child now w serious special needs makes it just a dream. I do so enjoy your videos and how open and honest you are and how you respond. I find it funny how you are scared of the ocean yet you jump from a plane. I’m terrified of heights but dream of shark diving some day 😀
It would be interesting to hear from you again how these things have changed in the past two years of "the plague," familial changes, etc. My daughter has been trying to get a job in forensics since she graduated from college a few years ago, hard to get into here in California I guess.
I can't believe how many of your things are mine too. I am a middle child also with an older sister and younger brother!!! My family says don't say 'it "around her...she remembers the smallest details!!! AND they claim I am the returning Queen!!! I NEVER get undressed in the stores!!! Always think there are cameras!!! I do LOVE the ocean though. And I don't have any weird drain or other things that freak me out. I also, for a time thought about be a mortician. BUT I wasn't sure I could do it and my family thought I was nuts. They were not supportive.....at all!!! Complete opposite. So I went into health care.....I think I would have been happier not to have my patients talk back to me!!!! And maybe I would be too involved into how and why the person died and what kind of a life and person they were. I was wondering if anyone else in your family was a mortician and how did they react when you said you were going to be one?
You are a very complex person, but nice to see you putting it out there. I hope you can overcome some of your fears. Three things I fear are spiders, snakes, and stupid people. Oh, yea I also hate high open spaces. Enough said on that subject but I really enjoyed your UK funeral experience.
Kari, I have watched a good number of your videos. I have found them interesting and informative.
Loved this video's, after reaching out to you and your help which was a blessing, it was great to hear you tell about yourself.
Hi Kari, I’m afraid to walk by myself, too. I have a great park across the street from me, but I never can walk there. Italy is amazing!
Awesome!!
Oh my gosh our memories are alike too, I remember those kinds of details too!
:)
Kari, you are amazing, Your husband has to be a very lucky man, you are intelligent, very learned and informative, and have a very pretty face to look at not to mention your million dollar smile! Don't ever quit making your videos!
One of mine is, when I eat a meal, I always eat the sides before the entree. I always save it for last. I have no idea why I do this.
Glad you enjoyed it! I need to rewatch it again soon!
Love this!!!!
👍 nice to know a little more about
A wonderful, caring person....tnx Kari....good stuff
Because you're awesome ..
Just luv learning about you and what you do
We took a cross country trip in our minivan with our 2 teenage sons. We drove from Philly suburbs to California, stopping at different cool places along the way, we drove from LA to San Francisco and then drove home along the northern States. We've been to 45 States at this point. I'm originally from Scotland
So fun!!!
On phobias etc. During a lecture a demonstration showed when children are being assessed chiropractically that they did better and were stronger with being held by mother. The comfort of significant others at times of duress can help as programming and strengthening.
INteresting!
I love grocery shopping too!
I've noticed your nails right away! I always check out your nail color too! More vibrant than pales. I was a nail biter too - do certainly get it!
Thanks so much!!
That was a fun video. I love Big Fish too,a great film. Thank you 😊
Thanks for watching
@@KaritheMortician you're welcome 😊
Love this video!
Thank you!!
WOW Kari... very interesting. I always wanted to work in the death care industry and share the same fear and reason of the fear of being on the water and wooded, walking trail. Love doing my own grocery shopping and bringing the clothes home too. Thank you for sharing yourself with us ❤️
Thank you!
Ireland is a super friendly sublime place. You are a great communicator!
Thank you!
I have the fear of weird holes too!!! I want to scratch my eyeballs out if I see them!! Thank god I'm not the only one 🙈
Thanks for sharing!
Kari! I loved Big Fish story. Magically.
So good!
One of these days I will go!
That was fun!!!
Thanks!!
Hi Kari ,
I have maybe too big a fear of heights to skydive. A man I know was a paratrooper in Vietnam and says it's not the fall that kills you ,
it's the sudden stop.
I do the same thing with buying and returning clothes! One weird thing about me is that condensation freaks me out, link in a water bottle or on windows...
that is interesting!
Thank you so much!
@@KaritheMortician And I hear you can get SUPER CHEAP DEALS on flights there this week. 😝😷
Kari you look so nice in this video! So pretty!
Thank you!
I Love to watch an listen to animals eating/chewing their food.💞
Interesting
Amazing video as always
Kari keep up the amazing work
Fun!!! You are just like my daughters!!! You seem like a very sweet kindhearted person! I just found you a couple a weeks ago.
Thank you!!
We have lovely countryside in Wales too, such a shame you didn’t have the time to travel down the M4 motorway (Freeway) from London to Wales when you was over in the UK.
Next time!
I also absolutely hate hate hate trying on clothes at the store! I do the same as you, buy and then return as necessary.
I am not alone!
I loved the movie Big Fish, I’m also creeped out by going into the woods
So you get me!
Have you assisted folks in creating an organization plan?
In terms of a business?
Omg...who else wants to hug Kari right now???
I am off to Rome and Venice next year!!
I love grocery shopping too. I make a list and it’s like putting a puzzle together. I too hate trying on clothes in a store.
Thank you for sharing!
Enjoyed the video. Thank you for sharing. 🙂 I am a "crazy cat lady" and I'm terrified of snakes. ... oh, and ice cream is a food group of it's own 🤭
Thanks for sharing!!
Very interesting video! I don’t like the ocean either! I only swim in pools where I can see the bottom.
Thanks for sharing this with us!
Thanks for watching
Great Video! I Enjoy Grocery Shopping Too! That Is, Until My Foodstamps Run Out!LOL!
Oh no!
Yes!!
Yes, Love red nails!
I love it!
I want to go to Ireland and Italy also. Hate trying on clothes in stores also. Usually buy something I know will fit. Not good at returning.
Yes!
weird thing about me i love hearse"s
I do too! I actually own one and look at them online all the time. Lol
Have you ever seen the airstream Hearst John Santieu has in Garden City Michigan?
What’s not to love about hearses? They’re beautiful AND practical.
Larkin, have you ever been in a hearse. By the way the plural is hearses. No apostrophe.
one thing major for me where my kids even tease me is theres like wet earrings or jewelry left on the counter in the bathroom absolutely grosses me out! my daughter left her earrings in the shower and i literally freaked like my fingers and the bottom of my feet were tingling....ehhh😬
That is one I have not heard!
Why???? Because you are loved all over the world and are such a support to so many💕
Kari, I have a fear of crowds...I don't attend concerts, sporting events and gatherings of large amounts of people, because I suffer from panic attacks! It is referred to as agoraphobia!
Yes have learned much from you about death and dying. I love learning.
Thank you!
You always seem so together even when thay are rude..
hey kari thanks for sharing i dont try clothes on either i return a lot lol i was wondering if you answered my questions and i missed it the first one was what is the cement slab on top of the ground in grave yards is it the vault the second is does the vault have a plug in it that you take out so water can come in or is it dry and sealed i saw where caskets were floating in the water in floods that would be terrible thanks so much.
I am not sure where you posted those questions...I can answer in this week's coffee chat which will be on Friday this week.
You’re one beautiful soul .
I’m terrified of heights but dream of shark diving some day 😀
Thank you :)
I also hate trying on clothes in stores!
I never knew so many of us did this!
And maybe I would be too involved
into how and why the person died and what kind of a life and person they were.
I was wondering if anyone else in your family was a mortician and how did they react when you said you were going to be one?
Awesome!
@@KaritheMortician you didn't answer my last sentence question....please and thank you.
How do you deal with the drains on the enboming table
I don't touch them lol
You are a very complex person, but nice to see you putting it out there. I hope you can overcome some of your fears. Three things I fear are spiders, snakes, and stupid people. Oh, yea I also hate high open spaces. Enough said on that subject but I really enjoyed your UK funeral experience.
Thank you!
