  • I've been thinking a lot about Valentine's Day and all the fuss around it, especially for anyone who might not be in the dreamy kind of relationship everyone talks about. There’s such huge pressure to find 'the one’, and as someone who very publicly has taken her time to do this, and kissed a few frogs along the way, I know how tough this can be!
So today I thought I’d reflect on the idea of resilience in relationships, and honestly, it's pretty eye-opening.
Here's the thing - Valentine's Day can be tough if you're not in a satisfying relationship, but it's also a great time to remember that love isn't just about romance. There's so much more to life and happiness than just being with someone. It's really important to find joy and fulfilment on our own.
Being resilient in relationships isn't just about toughing it out until Mr. or Ms. Right comes along. It's more about being strong within ourselves, knowing what we want, and being happy on our own. This way, we're not just clinging to someone else for our happiness.
What about knowing when to stick with a relationship and when to call it quits? That's a tough one. It really takes some serious self-reflection and understanding what we need and what our limits are. Sometimes, the bravest and most loving thing we can do, both for ourselves and the other person, is to walk away from a relationship that's not working. It's not easy, but it's a sign of real strength and resilience.
The big takeaway I hope you get from my Midlife Conversation today is that self-love is the real deal. It lays the groundwork for healthier, happier relationships, whether they're romantic or not.
Happy Valentine’s Day - from me to you.
