    Dude, great lesson and quick improvement from your student. High to low to high is the blueprint for an effortless groundstroke - I was taught the same.

  • @FredScales
    @FredScales Рік тому +2

    I saw the same issues with her ground strokes. What I like is how you explain step by step on how to correct it and stress the importance of thinking about it on every shot because of muscle memory creeping back in.
    You were trying to articulate all the “things going on” with her stroke. I like to sum it up as a “hitch” in her stroke. Basically a pause that will eliminate any stored potential energy up until that point as well as rushing to make contact. That’s why a fluid swing will take advantage of all that stored potential energy and result in “effortless power” (I hate that term). On her forehand especially you fixed the “power leak” she was experiencing and also making her racquet preparation earlier which will give her more consistency. Bravo on that lesson!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 10 out of 10!

    Fantastic lesson. I knew this in theory but never get it to sink into my muscle memory. Now I've seen how it's done and know I've consciously think about it at the beginning, I think I might have smooth ground strokes eventually. Great job - once again.

    The racket face above the wrist and shoulder, with ready bladed stance makes the forehand and (one-handed) backhand more consistent. GREAT teaching lesson. I have not seen club coaches teaching this technique with club players - ever actually.

    You are teaching racket face up on the bh takeback, but if you look at Halep who has a really nice bh she is bending her wrists on the take back and dropping the racket head below wrist level (likely to achieve topspin)....Djokovic does the same...they have access to biomechanical software to optimize their strokes...curious as to your thoughts about their technique

    I have seen Rafael Nadal does the same diagonal movement of the racquet on short balls in backhand side. He most often takes the raquete back exactly the way this lady does. Interesting he gets a small loop by doing some wrist flick. I have to admit I copied this from Monsieur Nadal and very happy with it. But not sure if I got it right. Does Coach Nikola want to shed some light on this topic?

    • @user-oj7co5wm8g
      @user-oj7co5wm8g Рік тому

      If it’s a short ball then you’re moving forward and it’s probably low which limits the body’s rotation. The wrist/arms must be used more (unless slicing) to lift the ball over the net and starting with a low head allows for more brushing/topspin but less power which is why you look for the angle on such shots. Nik has videos on short balls and how you must adapt the swing path like his reverse forehand videos. Now a short HIGH ball is different because you have time to setup and rotate so your stroke shouldn’t change much outside of making contact at shoulder height to put it away.

    Good lesson on the loop. However, I would advise against telling a player that they prepare their racquet too early. That is an old school instruction as older pros do not prepare early. However, all elite juniors and young pros prepare their racquet early. Older pros like Nick have been playing since they were very young and have developed great timing, but newer players need early preparation to avoid getting jammed by the ball.

    it's so strange how different women forehands look. I don't understand why coaches don't teach them proper forehand backswings. I see excuse after excuse but I still am not remotely convinced that backswing is as good as a standard male ATP backswing
    even middle school boys can have a proper take-back. lots of tennis players are skinny as hell. strength is not an excuse.

      Exactly. They're not male.
      Because of their different skeletal and muscle configurations, women players, and small children tend towards a more WTA style forehand.
      The majority of professional women players do it that way, and trying to say that de ATP style is the "proper" technique, along with being wrong, doesn't help a bit.
