These sessions with Robert are some of the best in your collection. It's amazing how even top players can still learn to tweak a shot and it makes a huge difference. Nice job.
Thank you for your posts…especially with Robert. Between the 2 of you the combined experience is invaluable. Robert explains his weakness and you pin point the break down and then work on the correction! Great instruction for players of all levels!
I think Robert & Nik are great...lots of informative instruction. Robert is a great instructor, has a very large junior academy in MD & strives to not only improve his clients but also himself & his instruction. Both Nik & Robert are genuine & their love of the game is apparent! Each video gives me something to work on in my own game.
I’ve been working Robert Nusher a lit bit less than a year in my game, and all I can say is THANKS GOD, you are amazing Robert, your passion, patience, energy and knowledge pushed me through the pain to understand how to play better tennis, thank you for teach me that tennis is a lot more than hit a ball without purpose, huge example of life ! Great Coach, GREAT HUMAN !🔥🎾
Thanks for sharing this. Getting tips on strategy and technique on the return is useful, particularly at a more 4.0-5.0 level. My initial observation seemed to be that Robert was shortening his clock with his forward split step and then taking a full backhand swing resulting in hitting it late. Sometime this would be on high kick serves really making a difficult shot for himself. Whenever he took more of a 3/4 rotation he had better success. And he can return high forehands.
Robert is an awesome player, his footwork is just a little off! I have the same problem sometimes on my two hander! It’s my age and disabilities that make me stand flat footed. So I got mini cones and started doing footwork drills, which I learnt from coach Nick on this channel. Robert age comes for us all, we have to work a lot harder now, than ever before because we will get stiff and not be able to strike every return cleanly. My shots are extremely flat, because I learned to play tennis in the early 80s, and I use very little topspin, it helps me to drive the ball at my opponents feet in doubles. I haven’t played tennis in over 20 years and I just playing again about two months ago, and I went from a 5.0 player from the 90s, to a 4.0 4.5 player, when I played in the 80s and 90s my coach made us hit a 1000 tennis balls a day for a week straight, and then we took a day off to go over technical strategies and study our opponents weakness and strengths. So I have literally hit thousands of tennis balls in my life time, and trained every day! And I can’t even move my feet at times, I have to do drills a few times a week, so I can move. I just play tennis for fun, and I enjoy the game at every level! I sometimes just sit in my car and watch people play tennis at the courts and enjoy watching them learn and enjoy the game of tennis. The reason I say what I am saying, is that an older person has to work hard to keep themselves in shape to play tennis consistently! The difference between a Professional Tennis Player like Nick, is control, Nick can control every shot in tennis and the in tennis, the average player wouldn’t stand a snowball chance in hell winning a match against Nick. Watch how Nick controls the ball and his footwork. When Nick misses a shot, it’s because of his footwork, because my main dude is going to be joining me in the 50s club in about 5 years. When Nick turns 90 I am going to challenge the young fella. Hahe
Wow this video was so good and came in the right time. I have this issue with my normal backhand where I often reach and don’t finish my shots and I could so clearly see how this is problematic in this video. I’ll try to be a lot faster with my prep next time.
Don't be too harsh with Robert, guys. He simply has a lot of experience and wants to go into detail. I really like Nik's ability to work like that. And to be honest: serving precisely like that to coach backhand return is something, that can't be offered by many coaches as it requires a lot of serve control. My return probably is my best shot, but as of now I tend to return with complete motions instead of a shortened movement. I probably could improve my return doing that.
Hi Nik - excellent advice as always - best in the business! Can you please provide advice on how to return body serves? Surprisingly there is no good content on that topic - especially given how a vast number of serves from recreational player are body serves (intentionally or unintentionally).
Nick - Great content as always. Myself a recreational player and have a strange issue. My shots always send the ball in the exact trajectory it came in! If I try to convert the same - say cross court incoming to down the line return or vice versa, i wrist-turn the ball and end up wide. Any good content you can suggest following.
Only 3 mins in but I’m already chuckling at the student’s comment that his backhand was the stronger side. Couldn’t be further from the truth. Backhand much weaker.
Hi Nik, great advise! To be early enough to return a fast serve, I find that I have to visualise the trajectory, the serve line (in case it's a deep ball with no time to react), the approximate height where I'll be making contact, and then with this in mind I react as fast as I can when I see where the serve is going. I have the impression (think I've seen it) that players look at the serve line/end of the box kind of visualising this as well, I might be wrong though. What do you think, is there a way to visualise or get your intuition ready?
The best thing Robert could do for his game is to work on his leg strength and flexibility; lunges and squats. He has the technique, but he lacks explosive movement. Put the rackets away for 1 month, workout, and come back strong and he'll take down those 5.0 guys.
Very mechanical. Most players with a 2hbh use that just to return the ball, 2hbh is so wrong on so many levels. It’s ok a few players use it but 95% of players today use it.
@@dustyroot4708 yep. Can't remember but didn't he take a big back swing? Seems like a pretty good player. Wonder if he has a serve or just gets it in to start a point. He looks kinda stiff. Maybe he should do some yoga like Djokovic .
4.5?? 55&up maybe. He's too rigid, calculating and overthinking everything. Loosen up man, just go to the ball. He's worried about stepping here, steping there, split steping and trying to do all of these feet patterns. Look up Oscar Wagner's videos. He'll tell you it's all about the hands, not the feet. Dude just can't do certain things anymore. I get it. I am old, fat, sickly, injured with a disability and probably a lot older than you. I had to learn how to throw all that technical shyt out the window and just go get the effing ball. There's a reason why the term: "can't teach an old dog new tricks"exist. OBTW you might want to stick with doubles. Doubles if played correctly and with a skilled smart partner is much more forgiven..

Robert has very modern techniques for his age. You don't see that so often
