If you don't have a track saw, would you suggest just using a long straight board placed on the chalk line and place a circular saw on it to act as your track to make the same type of cut since this would be a one and done type of application for me.

Dr. Decks, question, how do you make sure that when snapping a line, it is truly straight and squared specially when doing a breaker board/parting board in the middle of the deck? Do you cut both ends to length and snap both end to end lines connecting them? I always wonder how professional do this. I have not seen anybody showing the full process. All I see is the snapping of the line but the measuring to make sure it is straight is never shown.

The track saw is an excellent tool. I use a 9' straight edge made from aluminum. It works well for my DYI projects. Just have to remember to keep the shoe of the saw against the aluminum edge.

Thank you for this video! I just purchased a Kreg Accu-Cut and I'm up to this part of my first deck build, but I keep delaying the cut cause I am afraid of messing up 😂😂

Love your channel! Come to Maryland and take care of my deck! Question: Trex or Fiberon?

What size drill bit do you use for pre-drilling for the Cortex screws close to board ends? Everybody talks about it but never say what size bit to use.

I always thought the Trac saw had to be as long as the cut, but apparently you can slide the trac along the chalked line. True?

Great Saw, where do you get the clamp kits for the Irwin Clamps? I heard you say they don't make them anymore?

A little surprised you don't picture frame your decks. Wouldn't that look a lot nicer than cut off ends?

He brings his fascia boards up so that they're flush with the top of the deck, covering the board ends. He's cutting his boards with no overhang.

@@ladams1221Which is an ugly look. Fascia should be tucked under a perimeter board. Why would you want to introduce another gap sight line up on top, especially if the deck framing isn’t quite perfect.

What kind of chalk are you using on trex

You will have good luck using "Dust-off Chalk", kind of a pale purple color.

@@Dry1mp4ct really I think it’s a good saw it’s got the power and depth to go through 2x6 decking if necessary I guess makita came out with a 71/4 inch 40 volt but before that I donno, it is bulky but I thought it was a smooth track and lock better then some makita tracks I’ve used

It has a weird plunge mechanism, of all the saws ive just its the worst. Festool, Bosch, Makita, Dewalt/some weird chinese brands/Lidl saw. Dewalt is right there between the chinese Ozito and Lidl crap. The Mafell should be the best but never used one, the Bosch is the cheaper version of the Mafell and thats a really nice saw, but Festool is still above them

The Dewalt is def good for decks but I wouldn't use it for cabinets
