this is a breakdown of my second song on my EP, "Is It Not Strange?"! once again huge creds to Dayglow, whose format of his breakdowns greatly inspired the way to film/edit my own breakdowns! because the next three songs' breakdowns were a lot quicker, i'll either combine all three into one video or at least split it into two videos. WE'LL SEE, but you'll see that next week! :-)

Im loving those videos a LOT! They are super super super interesting!
About the system overload, I've never used Logic (I use Reaper as a DAW), but you should be able to freeze tracks (basically what is does is to "render" the track and disable vst/vsti fx).
Is pretty useful when you have certain tracks that kills the performance of your computer.
Also, what I personally do, if I'm mixing/mastering a song, I change my audio interface settings (changing the buffer size basically) in order to lose some "real time" (appropiate for recording since there is no "lag") for some stability (is laggy, but don't freezes).
Also, not sure, but probably Logic has some kind of performance meter that you could use to detect wich tracks are consuming most CPU. There are some vst that consume a lot of CPU and without the performance meter is hard to find out.
(I just google it, and yes, it has one :D)
Also, if you are using repeatedly some FX, like reverbs, maybe you want to take a look on "sendings". Basically is sending X tracks to a track with the FX. Is very helpful for the performance. And sometimes (sometimes), is a """""good mixing decission""""" because it helps to.... glue and gain "space coherence" (if that expression exists) to different tracks.
I had that Izotope Vynil. Personally, I always used it on a bus track, like master. But I liked the idea of putting it on the synths. It makes them sound so natural and ""vintage"". I'm stealing this idea :D
4:43 I LOVE that guitar. And the melody. Its awesome, because... it only has... 2 notes? Its so memorable! IMHO, the song won't be the same without that guitar. Are you recording via real amp+mic or emulating with vst? I can't tell, but it sounds freaking awesome. I love that tone.
6:43 A way to do it on the same track withouf duplicate is automation! Basically you automate any "knob"/option on your vst and you could for example turn up the wet of a delay or reverb on a specific moment, and then turn them down.
IMHO, isn't easier than duplicating, but with automation you dont need to duplicate the track and FX, so you'll gain some performance.
9:09 Wow, The Goonies. After you commented it, it gave me some kind of flashback of the Docks. Or the moment when they discovered the map in the Attic.
PS: Maybe I already told in the comments some things you already know, but just in case!
That video made like even more The Other! Looking forward for the next (Interlude?)!

for this EP i used the website Landr to auto-master, but for my newer stuff i've just been mastering myself, hahaha!
