The Forbidden City complex in the cof Beijing was the royal residence and seat of the Chinese government for five centuries. The impressive complex contains more than 8,700 rooms, in buildings constructed without a single nail or drop of glue. In the first part our special series on this architectural wonder, we look at the durable construction techniques that have allowed the Forbidden City to withstand the test of time.
This is part one of a series made in collaboration with the the SCMP Infographics team. The videos are based on their work chronicling the stories behind Beijing's majestic Forbidden City.

Sadly Mao competed with them at destroying ancient culture during the cultural revolution dwarfing these foreign powers' damages.

you should thank those foreign countries for preserving your ancient relics and artifacts, you can still see them in western museums today. Had they not been taken, they would've been destroyed by mao and nothing would exist today.
@@Element_Z48 Another ignorant creature who is not even aware that most of China National Treasures has already been moved to Taiwan long before Mao came into power. Not to mention the fact Mao did not touch or burnt down the forbidden City even during the cultural revolutions. I'm not Chinese but Even I know about this. Sure they should be grateful to those foreign countries if they ever return back the artefacts. Until then it's a fair game to all.

I recall there was a Starbucks in The forbidden city in the early 2000's but then they removed it thankfully
In its place now is a Beijing Duck Restaurant
The building it was housed in was very small, I think it was a storage place, I went back last year and now it's a very expensive roast duck restaurant
*No other country* can finish such a HUGE project in 4 years, not even with today's technology.
Well, the social structure was a lot different back them, you could just force it to happen professionally
People can still do it now, but it would take years of paperwork
The actual construction took 4 years, but before that it took a decade to design, prepare the materials needed, so in the end it took 14 years to build the Palace.
When you say something like this it draws haters from u know.. maybe next time u want to compare things like this try use different word

I would love to see the original Daming Palace that was built during Tang Dynasty in Chang 'an.

You adopt a too microscopic point of view in the same way as denying the survival of a person since most of his cells get changed when he grows. As long as the layout and architecture keep the same, we say it survived.

you are half right, lots of ancient things destroyed by the culture revolution, but you know, 10 years chaos cannot crush 4500 years culture.
The Olympic facilities are now used in addition to the landmarks to increase tourism. The Great Wall has become a miracle of world cultural heritage. Its commercial value has made it a popular tourist destination. The continuous construction of the city is the result of the modernization of the city. China has a population of 1.4 billion. I need a lot of housing construction transportation facilities. On the contrary, I think the Fukushima nuclear facility is a one-time building.

Hmmm, it would be hardly, Chinese imperial dynasty draw their legitimacy from mandate of Heaven, which need to be proved by the founder of dynasty seizing all the power first, a new emperor will be proclaim once he managed to defeat CCP, seizing all power, and conducting ritual of venerating Heaven, royal or peasant descendant, doesn't matter, in fact there are two dynasty found by peasent, the last one even more humble as he was a beggar

@@shemuelgallardovivarsjourn8814 yes, Zhu Huanzang later known as Emperor Hongwu was the founder of Ming Dynasty, the dynasty which built Forbidden City, he was the son of a poor peasant farmer, pandemic and famine, killed of his entire family, leaving only him and one brother. Starving, he started his path as beggar, then become a monk to get free meal from temple only to be kicked out due to his temperament and laziness to study Buddhism, not wanting back as beggar he join rebels and started rising until he became the boss of the rebel group, he defeated all his rival and chasing Mongols out of China and built the Ming Dynasty, it's pretty similar with Communist China actually, Mao Zedong was a son of poor peasant farmer, he reminds Chinese people of Emperor Hongwu and Emperor Liu Bang of Han Dynasty, both was dubbed People's Emperor due to their humble background
